Very good Clay!! I've found a little forward shaft lean is key but the one thing most people don't do well with chipping and that is 'releasing the club head' so the club can shallow out, the soft hands you mentioned helps with the release.

One recent investment I made - after decades of embarrassment with my short game - was getting a short game lesson. Many golfers get lessons to better the swing, but neglect the short game. I had gone thru a short game collapse with the “yips” with chips and pitches...and a nightmare out of the bunkers. I basically gave up the game because of it (hence the decades of embarrassment). But the short game lesson helped a lot! A lot of my woes stemmed from faulty set-up (right shoulder too low, I.e. like a normal iron shot set up). My still a work in progress getting my game back in shape. (But I no longer mentally roll up in the fetal position to execute a bunker shot!) so, now, I always like to check out short game secrets & tips!

At 3:01 I learned something so important. Keeping my feet close together so I can create the necessary body rotation. That a more open stance locks up the full body rotation. Like Hogan I have to write these thoughts down. Better to be remembering than to naturally be forgetting!

Thanks Clay..1st time viewer...appreciative subscriber! No greens I can pitch off of close buy so took your sand drill to the range and started building little piles on the hitting mat. Lots of funny looks until.....one guy came up to me and said ....brilliant, got any extra sand. :) (btw - I asked the range if I could put a little sand on their mats 1st)

Hi Clay, I noticed that I hit the ball purer (both Irons and Driver) when I take one step to the right, having the ball almost at the left outer side of my shoe. I want to correct this obviously, but what does that mean in swing terms? Are my hips too fast or my arms, or am I off completely. Thank you and your team for the great content, time and effort you put into these videos.

Nicklaus used to grab an old club and hit short pitches off a sidewalk or cart path for practice. It's a great way to learn how to pick the ball and stop chunking. 👍 Try it if you can. I do recommend using a beat up old wedge and not your gamer though.

Clay, is that a Hogan Equalizer ii in your hands? the sound and bite were amazing whoever it is. My new set (kirkland signature) are blowing my mind with their appearance as well as performance. Then i applied your basic techniques...BAM!!! My confidence level around the green has increased greatly. Kinda like when i was a kid playing with the old-timers; i'd out drive 'em but their ability to chip and putt beat my arse every time. Now i'm that old school dude paying it forward. Thank for a great video. GOD Bless!

Clay Ballard's lessons are outstanding especially for average Golfers. (That is because Marquee players have expensive coaches who complicate swing thoughts for fun loving golfers. I am sure it works for very skilled players but I am not one of them). I am an 18 handicap and 74. THe beauty of striking the ball is what you get when You learn from him. (for Eg. !5-20 yd gain on drives and Crisper Iron Shots and Short game, make a round a happier round. I thought I was the only person who did this it is a fantastic drill. The unfortunate part for me is there's not a lot of courses that I play that actually have that tightly mowed area. Once you learn to hit pitch shots off these types of tight areas that will be your favorite shot. The tighter the lie the lower you can keep the ball and the more spin it will have
@djmLexus
@djmLexus 2 жыл бұрын
When your stance starts open (at an angle relative to the ball's direction to the pin), then effectively the ball is not in the middle of your stance but rather it is at your back foot. Seems contradictory to your recommendation of keeping the ball in the middle of your stance. Any thoughts/details?

Going to try this right now - ill report back in 5 hours! Ok. I found this technique really good with my nearly 0-degree bounce 60-lob wedge. It is great out of any lie, even scrubby lies settled down in bumpy rough. My 58 degree Ping fairway wedge was terrible. It had too much bounce and too wide a sole to work. It has been designed too much for a descending blow, full shot. I found off the tight fairway lies, from further out than I want to use my 60 degree, I could use my gap wedge, without opening the face too much, but it is going to take a little more practice.

Absolute newbie here...what does it mean to “keep the face open”? I think maybe it means to keep the hitting face of the wedge pointing more upwards and less towards the ball? Yes? No? Sorry, I’m a total beginner and just don’t understand open and face.
