(Yes I'm aware this is several years old) I like the new technology but the meaning of the hitchhiking ghosts is lost. The whole point is that they're sitting in your doom buggy with you, hitching a ride, not sitting on top of it playing pranks. The old effect felt more real despite having less movement. Practical effects will ALWAYS trump CG IMO.

One of my Ghosts when I was riding the ride held a sign saying "Texas here we come." it made my Disney experience magical.

honestly, i dont like the new animated ending. . it just doesnt flow with the ride. its just too quick and fake. i prefer the old pepper's ghost type. it was way spookier (sp?) and added a bit of realism...even though they were dead stiff haha

I remember I got to go on the renovated Haunted Mansion right after it opened. I knew about the updated queue, but the new effects on the Hitchhiking Ghosts completely threw me for a loop. It freaked me out when the ghost switched my head with his, and the effect didn't glitch when I ducked in surprise. I loved it, it was so impressive!

Lol! When I went on the Haunted Manison, it was night and my first time, so for most of the ride I closed my eyes and covered my ears... I regret it now! XD

Although it's a little outdated it's still one of my favorite rides at Disney. I go about 2-3 times per year and I always get on this ride!

I really hope this new Haunted Mansion movie gives the Hatbox Ghost the fame he deserves! And if the movie does come out and is popular they'll do the same thing they did to pirates. Change the story a little add everything new in and tada a new attraction with a classic feel. The only reason they didn't do this with the original 2003 movie is because they didn't stick to the true plot of the ride which made people upset causing the movie not to be as popular. Have a Magical Day!

@popelauncher I've not been since they changed it, but from what I gather, that scene used to have you pass by a reflective surface that made dummies of the ghosts appear to be riding in your doom buggy with you. It was pretty neat, unless you had 3 people in your vehicle, then the middle person had a ghost reflected over them.

Eric Goodman seems to be an interesting person who works for Disney Imagineering. The Hitchhiking Ghosts DO make a cameo appearance on Haunted Mansion Holiday in the Cemetery scene where they sing scarols.

My family and I are avid Disney goers and we're planning a trip this May. We'll have my boyfriend with us and it may as well be his first time there. Can't wait to show him everything, including these great changes! I love the ways these guys look and I really hope to be a part of their pranks! :)

This is absolutely my favorite attraction at Walt Disney World and I have been going since 1967, probably every other year. Hear lately, the last 10 years every year. My immediate family prefer it, to going to going overseas and other places. To my displeasure. I am so pleased to actually see another overhaul of this attraction... I hope it will be a plus and not detract from the experience. But since when has Disney ever done something second rate. I tell ya, they have their act together!

@snowwhite923 I agree with the fact that they have no choice but to stop the ride momentarily to load wheelchair-bound guests, and that is perfectly fine with me. As a matter of fact, I rather enjoy those pauses where I can truly checkout my surroundings in detail. What is inexcusable is rushing the guests thru the pre-show and have them miss an important illusion and part of the attraction that sets the mood. No excuse.

@harley4press No you are not alone. There is no computer generated image that can replace real physical 3d animatronics, it has been proven time and time again that this does not work in the long run. They did this on Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland and it failed miserably compared to the real set pieces of the original attraction.

I allways go to disneyland In paris And i love that haunted mansion but we have this with that mirror but not with that new stuff And i was in USA in Disneyland in California That was a realy cool new adventure for me and my family I like Usa and over 2Years we go to the other Disney parks!!

How does it work? Does it use figures like in the Disneyland Version, or is it a projection?

In a way its like a double-mirror effected reverse-projection. So it displays on the mirror you're looking at, and the chairs and whatnot work with the ghost selected on that... 'Cart', I guess. It's brilliant. On one side the projection goes onto the mirror in reverse thus showing normally on the mirror you're looking at popping up on the correct side of the two people dependent on the height~

I'm still disappointed at the use of screens here. Screens can be used to make the rider feel immersed in the environment you created. Sometimes, you can't even tell that it is a screen! But with this, you can clearly tell that it's a screen and has even become a little dated

yea i was on it was really cool, i was in the candle light show singing with my choir and the next day we went to magic kingdom and went on it my and friend have out heads switch it was really cool!

i rode this twice the first time i was 5 and i was like NO! BAD RIDE! then my best friend wanted to ride it and my dad said if you don't ride it we wont go on any ride with you then i rode it and i was like awesome! expect the beginning when your in the elevator. i love how they put the horse carriages and the horses are ghost and the people too :)

@DeadmanInc336 actually its been open for 40+ years (not sure about the disney world one) and they both have gone through a few changes...i know for sure that the whole bride/attic scene has changed a few years ago. I wonder that too about the movie and if they're going to incorporate anything new into the mansion. I kinda hope not...it was not my favorite thing for POTC but it worked i suppose. The original parts of the ride are still my absolute fav. Only time will tell :P

@tantomali not necessarily. He probably is a hardcore HM fan, like myself, who doesnt appreciate the attraction being compromised for 'efficiency". It has nothing to do with wheelchair guests. It has everything to do with having guests miss an important part of the show at the very beginning. I have been visiting the mansion since the first year it opened and I can tell you, show quality has declined greatly.
