I, HiTop Films, said I was done making Spider-Man videos, video essays, Spider-Man Video Essays, whatever you want to call them. After my Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series, I truly believed I was done. But then I realized... screw that! I’m HiTopFilms and HiTop loves talking about Spider-Man.
I also realized that nobody has done a deep dive into The Amazing Spider-Man 1 or The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Marc Webb’s (Kinda) Amazing Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield, Marc Webb, Emma Stone and the entire cast and crew put a lot of love into these movies, so maybe it’s time to dive deep into that love. This is sort of an extension of The (Almost) Amazing Spider-Man, that was a quick 10 minute video talking about one really great scene in this movie, this video, Marc Webb’s (Kinda) Amazing Spider-Man talks about everything. They good, the bad, the Sony. I hope you goons enjoy. I hope this lives us to the Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man videos. Much love.

Ben Affleck in BvS was great. His protrayal of Bruce Wayne has that darker more serious depressed Batman which I really liked. He is who he is because of his childhood trauma. Having to watch his parents die right in front of him shaped him to become how he was. There's one particular scene I loved where Bruce and Alfred were talking about the legacy of the Waynes. Alfred said "You know you can't win this. It's suicide". Bruce acknowledged this but he just replied with "I'm older now than my father ever was. This may be the only thing I do that matters". To me, it's almost as if deep down in him he wanted to die at that point. He just wasn't conscious of it. He made himself believe that Superman is bad so that he could have a reason to fight him. But when the fight actually happens Superman held back and didn't want to kill him. When Superman brought up Martha it reminded him of the night that made him who he was. He realised that he could help save someone's (Superman) mother so that he don't have to endure the same pain Bruce endured while also in a way he could also have a chance to save his own mother so that he could be free from his childhood trauma that plagued him his whole life.

@Obi-Wan Kenobi Not necessarily. They wouldn't have hired him if he were a bad actor. You can't blame him for the lack luster (at best) directing of George Lucas during those movies. He only got black listed because those movies were as bad as they were, where the faults came from writing and directing, which caused the bad acting to ensue. If you think he is a bad actor then that's your opinion, and I won't mess with that, but you can't blame the performance on the actor under a director that also directed other good actors into the ground.

Garfield and Stone were genius casting choices. It's a shame that Sony let them down by hiring poor writers and strong-arming Marc Webb too much. Tobey will always be my favourite, no doubt because he was my childhood hero, however Raimi is a top-class director and the scripts were of similar high quality. Andrew needs to be given another movie with the care and attention he deserves, especially after he was one of the many highlights in NWH.

Just imagine if we'd gotten to see Garfield's Peter Parker running around with the Avengers as an already established hero getting called up to the big leagues, rather than Holland's baby spidey who barely has his feet under him yet as a hero getting turned into a Stark-ified version of Spiderman. It could've been amazing.

This definitely has my favorite version of Flash, that’s for sure. In the comics, he was an asshole bully, but would at times showcase his natural leadership whenever his school would be attacked by supervillains looking for Spider-Man. Spider-Man’s example also led him to become a war hero later on in life. What I see in this Flash is someone who could end up like that. I see a kid who lost someone close to him, and used aggression to cope with it to make himself feel better, but isn’t above becoming better. He’s definitely on a different trajectory by the end of the movie, and seems like he’s more at peace with himself.

I like that Captain Stacy’s reason for disliking spider man isn’t due to jealousy or pride. It’s based on the fact that he isn’t necessarily helping people at first. The real victim in all of this nonsense is Andrew Garfield. Imagine being a huge Spider-Man fan, learning to act (and getting recognition) and finally getting the role of Spiderman. Everything is going so well. Even the director is great. Then, the movie turns out mediocre to decent. A lot of people hate it, a lot of people hate you but you get fans, too. You hoped for an amazing spider man movie but it didn't turn out as amazing as the Sam Raimi movies. "Maybe the next one will be better," you say to yourself. But it doesn't turn out great, it isn't even mediocre. It is bad. Now, people hate you. Everyone hates the movie and everyone hates you. You get the title of the worst Spiderman. You immediately get kicked and everyone celebrates. Now, a lot of people know you as that one bad Spiderman in that cash grab wannabe Spiderman Cinematic Universe. It's a real kick in the balls for anyone let alone a Spider-Man fan

To be fair, Andrew is regarded as one of the best Spider-Man actors, even if his movies were a bit lacking. You don't really see people attacking him as much as the movie. And the few that do are pretty much idiots anyway. Especially when he is IN the suit I can't recall anyone that does it better. Not Tom, not Tobey, no one. He, in my eyes, is the only one that feels like he got the mannerisms, quips and general attitude of the wall-crawler down. (Which does not mean the other 2 don't do well in the suit either, just that I find their Peter Parker more convincing than their Spider-Man if you catch my drift)

I always say that Raimi‘s Spider-Man had a very deep dive into the ideology of Spider-Man, what it means to be him, what it means to be a hero. It deals with responsibility and has an overall moral touch to it, and I dig that. However, when it comes to building up a connection from character to audience, TASM did the exact thing because it‘s every character was relatable. I understand the dive into deep morality of a character, but some characters are more suited to be relatable, which was Stan Lee‘s goal for every character he created. This is also the big difference between DC and Marvel characters. On the one hand you have ideology that gives you hope (Superman) and on the other one you have relatability that gives you strength (Spider-Man).

That's why I don't really put a whole lot of energy into crapping on any of the other movies, even though the MCU Spider-Man movies are my personal faves. I thoroughly enjoyed all the actors playing Spider-Man, and for the most part I enjoyed all of the movies (though I admit as a kid I thought Spider-Man 2 was boring - I just started a rewatch of the Raimi films last night so maybe I'll feel differently as an adult). The only thing I really objected to in all of the movies - and this is literally the only things that I ever bring up as having bothered me in those films - is the portrayal of Harry Osborne in TASM 2. Dane Dehaan was not a good casting choice, and they shouldn't have skipped over Norman for the goblin. Don't get me wrong, Dane Dehann is obviously a good actor, I just think Harry was the wrong character for him. He really should have been playing Carnage, cause he would have nailed that.

You perfectly described why TASM will always be my favourite Spider-Man movie!! I'm not the biggest fan of action movies which is why I'm usually not really into Superhero movies as well. They often feel too big, too epic, too loud. They put action and plot above character and relationships. But with TASM you get a Coming of Age movie which just happens to be set in the Spider-Man Universe. You don't need to be a fan of Superheros to enjoy this movie. And I think that's probably one of the biggest reasons why TASM received so much hate. People have certain expectations going into a Superhero movie and I don't think TASM met those expectations. But I don't think they tried to, they deliberately tried something different. And I think they achieved, I mean I liked TASM exactly because of that.

One of my favourite scenes in this movie is this little understated bit. It's when Spider-Man creates that big web in the sewers to get a feel for where the Lizard is, and then when we cut back to that a while later, Peter is laying down and playing some dumb little game on his cell phone. It's such a small moment, but I think it's such a great and genuine human touch. He's not in hero-battle mode the whole time. He realistically got bored and started trying to pass the time while waiting for his plan to pay-off like any actual teenager would.
