@@TheF6fhellcat Sorry to disappoint you but the Tempest programme is running as planned and had a recent big funding increase. In fact discussions are taking place for Japan to join the consortium.

@@1chish I was wrong.Thank you. However, we did not get information about increasing the budget.I hope it works out.
I guess it has political reasons? As for the general inspector of the Luftwaffe flying the aircraft, it's not too rare for the Luftwaffe to let high ranking personnel in the cockpit itself. At least during such events that have a lot of diplomatic meaning.
It's truly a testament to the potential range of the Eurofighter and how important aerial refueling is in a strategic sense. Not too long ago it was pretty much impossible for a fighter aircraft to fly such routes on its own
Will the Japanese become an aviation power house again? You bet, and in no time.

That's highly debatable, the Japanese aviation industry has been neglected for decades compared to Europe and the US. Japan might partner with other countries on the development of a 6th generation aircraft, might it be the Tempest, FCAS or something with help from Northrop Grumman or Lockheed Martin from the US. However it's a long way to that goal. By comparison China has built 2 5th generation models now, S. Korea has developed the KAI Trainer and the KF-21 4th generation aircraft.
