Paul this has literally changed my game. Thank you so much. I’ve been hitting my irons good but driver was horribly inconsistent. Took your “tilted” and standing taller tip straight to the range and course after watching this and starting hitting my driver better than ever consistently. A bonus was I tried it with my irons and started to pure them better than ever. I don’t hear ppl talk about posture much on YT, but this video has made all the difference in my swing.

Finally hit some proper drives today thanks to this video. Only been golfing for a couple of months but have been teeing off with irons the entire time because I couldn't hit a driver. It was my wrists. Never would have figured it out on my own🙏

When I first started golfing, my main flaw was breaking my wrists a lot during the takeaway. Keeping my wrists straight and gradually bringing them to about 90° when parallel to the ground was my focus. After watching this now, I realise that my wrists are perhaps too locked into place, and not loose at all. Anyway, thanks to this video I now know why I hit solid iron shots but horrible drives. Loose wrists and stand up straight! So simple yet I had no idea that this is what was causing my awful drives. Swung around my driver after this video and applied your tips, and it feels so much smoother! Thanks Paul.

Pretty much just summed up the things I do wrong and the results I get (tighten up grip and wrists, swing hard, slice ball and sky ball). I really have to be cognizant of relaxing and slowing everything down, whilst still generating some power during the last 1/3 of my downswing. I also need to work on delaying my upper body/arms. But I flush my irons perfectly, which is why driving is so frustrating for me.

@@paulwilsongolf I have good news to report, Mr. Wilson... So, I went to my local course. Grabbed a range bucket and chipped for about 2 hours, then hit the range with my bucket of balls. Man, I could not, NOT hit it straight. I've never hit the ball so well in my life. And I was darting them too. Turns out the local high school golf coach was right behind me on the tees. Tells me he's jealous of my swing. I ran into Butch Haverland, a PGA certified golf pro, in the parking lot and he agreed to coach me. THEN, a buddy gave me a smoking deal on a 52 degree Titleist Vokey later that night... Best day of golf I had all year and I didn't even play a hole. But THEN, I go to league on Monday (tough as nails 9 hole course). I shoot 4 over, but I hit the fairway EVERYTIME with my driver (7 out of 9). The other two holes were par 3s and I unfortunately did not hit those well off the tee. (Yet)... All because I watched a handful of your videos and "oiled" my wrists, man. The slice is gone. Thanks Paul! Taking that "can of WD-40" everywhere with me now! ;)

Hey Paul, FYI Google's advertisement came on Mid your plug for your book if there is a way to adjust the timing I suggest you do. Great tip regarding spine angle using a driver compared to irons. I will remind myself to stand taller with the driver. If you have time I would love to hear if this will also aid my body to getting to my front side (turning through) as I do with my short irons which crack very solidly upon contact with the ball. Cheers

Less is more. Sounds advice. I shall try to take it a little easier. I seem to be losing about 20-30 yards with my slice. And frustrating playing fall golf while looking for my ball in the leaves. Hybrid has limited slice. Driver, can't shake the slice unless I roll over my wrists. Thanks!
@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
Right. So you roll your wrists and get it hooking. Once you can do that you switch to firing the legs and hips to straight it out. Slice spin in not good. You never square the face. A hook you square the face then go beyond but at least you square it.

If you are hitting with the open face your wrists are too tight. You need to roll it from the top and start hooking it. Once you can do that you switch to body to straighten it out.

This is so easy to fix. It won't take a year. Maybe a couple of weeks. Get the thing hooking first. Then you know what you are going to do before you do it. It means you are releasing the club but you are doing it earlier than necessary. Once you get that you start switching to firing the lower body to straighten it out. So you fire the lower a little and watch your ball. It will start to get closer to the line. Add more and it gets closer and so on. Blow it right that's too much body so you slow down. In other words you are using your ball as a gauge to tell you how much body. If you start putting slice spin on it you go back to rolling early. Hopefully, you are doing my neutral grip. Then do this drill and watch the face: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hax6gq9zuL63loU.html Then roll it from the top and get it consistently hooking (this is step 1): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btifkpR_vrbIaJc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fdSBZamXybemdKM.html Once you can consistently hook it you start to add body to straighten it out (step 2). To do that, you can use this trigger: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMqgm9eZqLedhoE.html So simple. Watch how as I can cure slicers in the 2 videos on this page. If interested, you can pick up my cure your slice video: www.paulwilsongolf.com/cure-slice

This is a terrific reminder, Paul, and I needed it. Aside from my occasional tight hinge I seem to have morphed my iron setup/swing to the tee box. Yeah, more upright, makes a ton of sense. I hit woods off the tee (my 20+ year old driver isn't cutting it anymore, want/need newer technology) so I take the same approach with the woods (4w, 7w) with the driver advice you provide. Any issue with that approach? You're the best, thank you sir!

No issues really. Seems like you understand it. Yes, I would get a new driver. Try a bunch. If you can get professionally fitted that would be good. Find the one you love the look of, the sound, the feel and of course the shaft.

Love your videos Paul, My driver and woods play is killing me, I feel pretty confident about hitting all my irons but I have no clue where driver will go. I avg 250 drives according to a years worth of gps data but I can hit a 215 yard slice, a duck hook and a absolutely pumped 280 yarder all in the front nine. I understand I am way too tight on the slice but I often follow up the slice with the hook, How do I ingrain the muscle memory to hinge the wrists correctly and maintain my club head speed? Also, would fine tuning my ball placement in my stance and stance width be worth considering? Looking forward to testing out if I am too bent over for driver tomorrow.
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Glad you like the tips. I appreciate the support. As for driver you need to get it going one way so you know where it's going to go before you hit it. You hit it everywhere and you have no idea where it's going. So I get everyone hooking it. This is a manual rolling of the face getting it to go low (due to rolling and delofting) and with hook spin (which tells you the face is square to the path at some point in the path). I have tons of tips on this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g55ma7SkudKrpGg.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ppqmdLaetODPgJs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJOeerBn3rSbaWQ.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r651qZp4nsCZXWQ.html This is step 1. Can't get to step 2 without mastering step 1. So do this daily in practice swings. I have literally had people master this in 4 repetitions. It feels weird and you not hitting perfect shots. get every ball hooking. Once you can do that you keep this feeling as you start to switch to the legs and hips. Fire a little and you will see the ball get closer to the line. DO NOT fire full out. Watch your ball. The more you fire the lower the closer to the line. If you blow it right back up and start rolling in practice swings so you loosen your wrists back up. If you blow the next one right then go back to step 1 and start hooking it again. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMqgm9eZqLedhoE.html This shows you what to do: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLKjnqqqnNjZnKM.html

@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
I don't want people hitting anything. Some pros have a descending blow others are ascending. This is relative to your body tilt at impact. Just work on the fundamentals and see what you have. Then adjust the body tilt if necessary. Up takes spin off. Down adds spin.

I'm a newer golfer and spent most of 2021 learning my irons which I've gotten pretty good at hitting them, eveytime I try to learn the driver and hitting it decently, my irons suddenly starting grounding every shot, then once i get my iron swing back, i keep hitting grounders with my driver . Watching this video makes me think I'm hinging my wrists with the irons so I'll keep that in mind next time at the range. If anyone has any other suggestions why this happens please reply
@paulwilsongolf2 жыл бұрын
What is happening is you get all hyped up when hitting driver so when you go back to irons you are trying to hit them with the arms. The harder you hit, the tighter you will be, the more you will look to see what you hit. So stick with the irons then when you move to driver start out slowly and gradually increase ONLY your legs and hips for more power. When you go back down to irons keep the same feeling of relaxed arms. If you find yourself topping it tee it up a half inch. There is no point topping it. Get the ball airborne then lower the tee. You should be working on this too: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsWgeZqpkrWniIk.html

Paul what’s you’re thoughts on midsize grips? Do they allow you to hinge properly? What size do you use? Thanks!
@paulwilsongolf2 жыл бұрын
This is a really dependent on hand size. Larger hands and mid size are fine. I'm 5'10" with regular size hands. I use Tour Wrap R60 with 2 wraps of tape under them. I don't like Jumbo grips unless the person has arthritis so bad they have to use them. The wider the grip the slower the hand action. I would go to a fitter or golf store and have them take a look. They can make sure you are using the proper grip size.

@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
You're trying to hit it way too hard. Why not swing easy and actually accomplish something? Once you get it, speed up your legs and hips for more power. Hitting with the arms will never work so you need to do something different. Arm unit hinges and rehinges. Wrists are loose to allow this to happen. So you work it back and forth feeling your wrists loosen up. This is a big part of my teaching: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g55ma7SkudKrpGg.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ppqmdLaetODPgJs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJOeerBn3rSbaWQ.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r651qZp4nsCZXWQ.html Once you get that you switch to the legs and hips. I’ve watched video after video when they talked about the club face open. Open relative to what? What does an open club face look like?
@paulwilsongolf2 жыл бұрын
Think of the ball sitting at 12 o'clock. This would be the face pointed down the target line or square. Now open the face by pointing it towards 1 o'clock. That would be open relative to the target line (where you want to hit the ball). If the face is open you will most likely put slice spin on it unless you counter act it by rolling the face closed through impact.

Why is it while out goofing with a buddy that I'll hit a drive that seems to shoot off like a cannon, hits nice heights, thinking i just drilled it a mile come to find out that my buddy struck a lower shot, with a hair draw, almost floated like a partly wounded duck, and we're both sitting the same different yardage nearly? I hit this laser beam with a ker-ack! and his was a softness. Maybe down the line versus the side view reveals different eyed velocities, but my shot yardagewise was the same.
