nice to see a nitro properly tuned on youtube for once. So few people realize how simple and reliable nitro can be. Some experience from one actually interested in the mechanical side of rc goes a long way.

It helps that it's a decent engine as well. So many people get one of the Traxxas TRX 3.3 equipped models or a something with a super cheap low-quality engine, have trouble with it, and then end up thinking that all nitro models are like that. I've never had issues with any of my Dynamite Platinum series (SH Engines) engines, but I've had plenty of trouble with Traxxas engines and the piece of crap that came in the old Kyosho Inferno US Sports Readyset back from the mid 2000s.

Bret, man you really should have INFORMED US that the starter box rubber wheel needed to be raised. The Kyosho RTR is too high. It was driving me MAD. Just a suggestion thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work. Thanks to you AMain for offering all our RC needs.

Hmm, the wheel should not need adjustment. If it does, it may not have been assembled correctly at the factory, or there is an alignment issue with the vehicle. Happy you fixed it though and got it working properly. -Brett

Bert, it took me a while and thanks to other Kyosho MP9 Owners for the suggestions. My first time was not good on the track LOL. Damn near passed out because of heat and lack of preparation. Can’t want to get back out there. I don’t know how you guys do in the triple digits. Peace be with you.

Have this Buggy and upgraded it nicely, it was worth it for the learning experience of doing so. Now Looking at Kit versions with more educated ideals; glad I started with "this" RTR!

By upgrading my MP9 RTR I've bought time to continue learning/experimenting with chassis set-ups, tires, differential and shock fluid viscosity's etc. and I've started to go racing with it too. A-Main Manufactures Cup @ Chico this year was my 1st. Got my Butt kicked as expected but Wow What FUN! My upgraded MP9 RTR was track capable even in the hands of a Rookie. Getting rid of the pull start was "key", it probably added 10% HP but most notably "unleashed" top end RPMs'. Thank you for doing and sharing these videos.

@@AMain_Hobbies yeah, its more fun to drive with better tires. But I would like to regulate it so people with most tires in the backpack don't automatically win. Perhaps not go for the softest ones around, but allow for something that is still better than what comes with an RTR car, yet can stand up for a couple of days racing. I would also allow for oil changes in diffs and shocks, also changing springs and such.

I would recommend you use a backplate really just to eliminate the extra weight that the engine is pulling so you can get higher rpms.

those look so cool, I got injured skateboarding like a year and a half ago so while recovering I got like introduced to BangGood.com, and hobby sports, so i got a 1/10, NITRO RC, Shcokwave (redcat racing) it's awesome but this 1/8th kyosho look nice !

This ReadySet is an awesome RTR buggy. There are tons of parts available as well to go to extreme basher, or competitive racer. It's up to you. But it Braaaps hard. Hope you're all recovered and back on the board dude! -Brett

Interesting. I was informed by Amain staff awhile back that the Kyosho KE21R, KE21 or the KE25 engines DO NOT have available sealed backplate options yet here you say you have some on the way?? This I have to see.

Wouldn't a jumper wire been easier that cutting and soldering? Plus now you are limited to just one battery type versus have options with having the 2 connectors. Or am I over thinking it?

That could be a good option for some. But most new folks don't have an extra connector and wire. We just figured if you go with a single 4S right from the start, there is no need for anything else. But a jumper is a good option. -Brett

Brett, are servos being burned up and their life shortened by 7.4V LiPo packs? What is the consensus on that? Just curious because I don't know.

The servo circuitry was not made and designed to cope with the high voltage, so after a while, it burns up. The servo will work on 7.4V, but will fail prematurely, compared to using the servo on 6V. A high voltage servo is made with a more robust circuit board and motor to handle the additional voltage, and heat that comes along with it. -Brett

Performance is pretty peppy, but fuel mileage is not very good. You could use it for fun racing, but I wouldn't try to be a serious racer because of the low fuel economy. -Brett

No other buggy is needed. You can just swap out the engine for something more race oriented. A ProTek Samurai, an OS Engines, even a SH Engine will all provide increased mileage. There are a lot of engine options for a variety of budgets and competition levels. -Brett

You mentioned a back plate replacement to delete the pull-start. Do you have it in stock and is it compatible with the new KYO 21SP?

Yes sir. It shouldn't cause any issues as long as the one-way bearing in the pull-start holds up. We may not even put the back plate on our engine if it holds up. We'll see. -Brett

Also, AMain Brett, the product page on for the SureStart is stating two, 750 motors; not two 775 motors as stated in the video. Did the product change?

No. The backplate we purchased was incorrect and did not work. Kyosho doesn't sell a backplate cover as far as we know. People have commented on these videos about a Duratrax or Dynamite plate intended for a different engine, that fits. I do not know the model number though. We left the pull start on there and it's still on there today. Good luck finding one. -Brett

why would you use a starterbox on an engine with an pullstart on it. Atleast use a proper race engine then

Because it's easier to start the engine that way. It doesn't matter if there is a pull start or not, you can still use a starter box on this platform. Why not make it easier on ourselves? -Brett

Plus! Drop the factory bitch pinion gear and drop in a 17 tooth pinion and watch how that kyosho opens up!
