In this week's riveting episode of @BlackQueerTownHall, brace yourself for an unfiltered exploration of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The vivacious @MissPeppermint247 and the incomparable Bob the Drag Queen embark on a heartfelt journey, bringing you stories of resilience and courage from those who have weathered the storm. Glen Hill, a 71-year-old who's navigated 38 years of living with HIV, joins the podcast to reflect on the harrowing impact of the AIDS Crisis on his LA community and the profound ways he's devoted himself to both the HIV and sober communities. Joining this candid conversation is Bob the Drag Queen's Uncle Steve, who shares his own poignant experience with HIV/AIDS and the boundless love and hope he's shared with others. And finally, Robert Evans (@robbsway86) opens up about the personal shame he had to conquer after his diagnosis at 19 and the transformative work he's undertaken within queer spaces since. Get ready for an episode that's as raw as it is inspiring, as these powerful voices shed light on a topic that's shaped their lives and the queer community at large.

I remember when I came out, my stepfather told me that I was going to end up dying in a hospital bed, wasting away from AIDS. This was 2002- that shit has stuck with me for 21 years, even after he took his own life from alcoholism/depression.

See, you probably better than me. I would have been at his grave like "Look where I'm at. Now look where you at. Hold that L, pops." I'm vindictive though.

Hello. I made my journalist thesis about The White Ravens in 1998. It's a Belgian organization that provides information and services to the hiv/aids community. The subject wasn't approved yet, but I had already interviewed dozens of people and gathered hundreds of pages of information in the two years before that the school couldn't really disapprove anymore. It was still a very sensitive issue, and me talking to hiv/aids patients was very hush hush. I graduated and after my studies I became an active member of lgbtqa+ organizations and still talk to people about the hazards of unprotected intercourse and drug use in the community. Big hug from me. Thank you for sharing your love and life with us. ❤

My uncle Carl ❤ had AIDS but controlled it with meds and lived an amazingly full life. He passed away in a car accident, but one of his passions was his cars (a passion I also shared with him) and traveling all over the place. He drove all over the USA in classic car clubs, art car parades, burning man when it was still good. I remember him fondly every day and I recall when he passed (late night accident on a winding forest highway) thinking he probably preferred that to getting any sicker. Miss him every day and thankful for the amazing community that kept him happy and healthy for as long as they could. They would come over and give him massages with cbd oils, inject his meds as needed, dance and sing &smoke weed with him. Lol. He had the best group of friends. ❤ ETA: he died at 54 and was diagnosed in the 90s.

That opening statement was absolutely true.. When you were diagnosed during the 80s and 90s, you would most likely die as there was no medical intervention.. Everyone I knew passed..

When I was studying in health care, students doubled as each others patients. I would always announce I am hiv+, to increase awareness. Your patient may/may not know their status, so treat everyone with excellent care!❤

1:07:15 song goes "allouette, gentille alouette, allouette je te plumerai" which translates to "lark bird, nice lark bird, I will pluck your feathers " and then you list the part of the body "je te plumerai la tête " (I'll pluck your head)... it weird how children songs don't really make sense. Oh, and "frère Jaques" is just brother Jake. Like the clerical title. Now why on earth do you guys know those french songs is the real mystery. Anyways, thank you for coming to my... french lesson
