HIV replication is a complex multi-staged process that includes crucial steps taking place on the exterior as well as the interior of the target host cell.
The first three steps involved in cell entry are termed attachment, co-receptor binding and fusion. Each step is crucial to successful viral reproduction.
Once HIV virus penetrates the cell, it releases its RNA into the cell.

LOL I like how the music is all optimistic sounding. YEAH! HIV Replication!

Yes, it HIV's single strand or double strand - RNA (depending on the type of HIV) uses the host (us humans) translation and replication system for their own production. That includes all organelles.

people with AIDS should be treated as humans with dignity and love. when one is able to take a deep breath and rethink the situation and understand that they really are not infected with a deadly virus, then they will not choose, out of fear, to take the toxic medications being given to them by doctors who are required to follow orders given to them by the military run CDC in the U.S. - the point is simply to get people well and this can take many forms as miracles happen daily on this planet.

This may be a little old, but there are several tests for HIV. The main one tests for viral proteins not encoded for by humans, the other looks for the HIV sequence in the genome.

hey that sounds like a breakthrough. we'll find out soon how effective it is. listening to this lecture has made me interested in refreshing my knowledge on basis of HIV thoroughly. the hospital environment is all clinical and aloof of genetic basis.

@toadexleen the music is optimistic b/c actually the person who lives with HIV infection can have as long life as you can have if takes atiretroviral treatment . HIV infection women can have healthy children if respect all needed rules ...your partner can have hiv infection and do not infect you if you both also respect some rules ...so the optimistic music is quite understandable

and why do ALL hiv tests have disclaimers on them? they clearly state 'this test should NOT be used to determine the absence or presence of hiv infection' - look for yourself.

right or wrong is not the question here, because then we only look for someone to blame. the situation is beyond blame at this point. best to change and move on. cut your losses.

It is thanks to HIV that we now posess and use routinely in the lab the enzyme reverse transcriptase. It is an extremely useful tool for many molecular biology experiments. However, I have heard the people in my molecular biology department express sadness at the number of human lives lost due to this sad and crippling diease. Hopefully though understanding we can solve the HIV problem. Also through the studying of HIV help in a number of other dieases too.

volodus, the question to ask is: why do you believe what you believe about hiv? why do you not question this animation?

i dont get it, wouldnt viruses evolve to not harm us and just use us? the longer and healthier u keep ur host, the better chances much higher numbers of better produced virus offspring.

You know I feel that your comment is rather an offensive and ignorant one, although I do respect your freedom of speech. It sickens me to see someone who is supposedly a believer in God but rejects his basic principal of love. Also think about the people that truly do get hurt from HIV/Aids its the poor sick and down trodden think about Africa. Yes being permiscuous is bad, but the killing of innocent people is no form of justice or punishment for what they do.
