A follow up on the OTS queen rearing brood frame we put in hive 6. First they made the queen cells, then we need the virgin queens to mate and succesfully return. Did they make it? What went wrong? What do we do now? Hey Randy. 🤣 now there’s some planning for supply/demand. I need to learn to graft. I have all the equipment. Have a safe 4th.

@@JeromeBeeFarm Darren, you'll get to grafting when you get sick of paying for queens, but that is literally just half the battle. Getting those girls hatched, bred well, and returned in laying is the other half of the battle. But you'll get the grafting down in no time. The chinese grafting tools make it simple.

Hey Squatch. Yeah there’s some big ones around here. I don’t know what they are eating. I put out some scraps occasionally for the cameras, but not enough to fatten them up Have a Safe 4th.

To combine these hives, Need thick heavy smoke threw out the whole hive and the frame you putting in OK bro. Hear them roars. THEY SMELL THEM ! If they smell a different colony, they will fight them. Lets hope there confused enough . The roar what scare me, they might not accept them ! ~ Happy 4th of July !

Hi Niki. I did some quick hive checks and maintenance yesterday with no videos because if the rainy weather and 15 had a nice big supercedure cell. I’m excited to see how that one turns out.

Good try Darren, but no cigar. LOL I picked up a trick from Bob Binnie where I notch two frames and split the two deep boxes with a double dividing board. Top box exits to the back and loses all the foragers so you have to make it stronger and I feed them in the box. Now you have 2 chances to get a queen back and if you only get one you just do a newspaper combine. Just an idea for next time if you like the idea. Last year both came back so I had to split them into two hives. Take care and have a good 4th.
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, bummer. That's a good idea. I haven't seen that video I don't think. I guess it's just making two splits basically with the brood frames and double your odds. I don't know if this hive had enough umph to it to make two. Have a nice 4th. Take care.

@@JeromeBeeFarm kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJxiiNqAsczIfaM.html Here is a link for Bob's video. He has another also where he talks about them. I agree you don't have the numbers unless you split them up into a double 5 frame nuc. They are great to use when your bees swarm. I built a 5 fr, 8 fr., and a 10 frame double dividing board.

What a bummer! I appreciate you showing the wins and losses in beekeeping because it happens to all of us. My one colony that made it through winter has two full supers on top of it. I was very surprised. I requeened one of my nucs and made a split with the other Wildflower Meadows queen. I've had to pick on my one big hive all season. I'll check in a few days to make sure #2 and #5 accepted their queens. On our garden tour two weeks ago, I met one of your cousins. I'm sorry, I can't remember her name right now. She read my gardening newsletter where I linked to your channel. She said you used to be the "city cousin." Ha! I once was the "city cousin" too.
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dee. Yeah the nectar flow was pretty intense when it finally stopped raining there for those few weeks. I have a few with double supers full. I put a third one on some but I doubt they did anything with them. Man you have me curious which cousin that might be. Whereabouts did you see her? We lived in Moore before we moved to this place in Newcastle. I have a cousin who lives around Houston who’s a master gardener and her daughter went to OSU and has a masters in horticulture. She worked on the studio garden at OSU. I don’t where she lives now though.

Darren, sorry that one didn’t work out or is it possible that she was on a mating flight when you inspected the hive? I’ve had a couple that were extremely slow but finally got to taking care of business,

Hey Don. Yeah that’s possible. We’ll see what they do with this new brood frame. If they don’t pull new queen cells, then there’s a queen somewhere. Have a safe 4th.
