Hans-Kristian Vittinghus is a Danish men's singles player whose career spanned more than 1 1/2 decades.
Whilst never the top player from Denmark, Vittinghus earned the respect of fans and fellow players alike through his never say die attitude, what he did on and off the court and his respect, and love for the sport
This documentary pays tribute, in his own words, to this badminton icon laying out his entire career from how he got into badminton, his early career results, how he thought World and Olympic Champion Chen Long would never make it, his infamous diving rally against Lee Chong Wei at the 2012 All England, what it meant to become a World Champion how and whyhe ended his career, plus lots more.
If you are a Vittinghus fan, a badminton fan, or just a sports fan in general, then you won't want to miss this one.
A special thank you to Hans-Kristian Vittinghus for taking the time to talk with me about his career :)

Amazingly done. While watching the documentary, I felt like crying at times. I am from India and discovered badminton in my 20s. During that period, I wanted to watch how top players played and learn about who the top players were. At that time, smartphones were not prevalent, and in my rural area of South India, we only had Java phones. We used to watch badminton videos from third-party sites, with only Vittinghus' dive videos and Lee Chong vs. Boonsak Ponsana videos available. For two years, those were the only videos I could watch, allowing me to feel the emotions and mindset of the players. I never received coaching, but in my locality, where there were four courts, everyone liked my game, respected me, and some were not interested in playing with me because I started playing like him. I never quit, and badminton commentaries also helped me improve. The "never give up" mindset enhanced my game without any coaching, inspired by the dive videos. I am certain I watched them over 1000 times and still continue to do so. Thank you, dear Ben, for creating this documentary. My heartfelt thanks to you. I am now working towards becoming successful. If I achieve that, I will come to see you and give you a hug.

Incredible Documentary Ben! Both parts 1 and 2 were so masterfully put together. I think having the direct access to HKV also brought a level of depth and richness to the story we seldom get to see. In fact there aren't really any badminton documentaries on any player out there because the likes of Netflix just wouldn't put money in it. I think if you can take your learnings from this and make baddie documentaries your niche (esp biographical ones) you might just have carved yourself a unique place in the baddie media landscape. I hope you'll get access to more and more legends and get to tell their stories (to the english speaking). Amazing brother! words cannot express the gratitude!

Wow...thanks! Yes I'd love to get into that niche and combine it with other story telling. I have a few contacts so maybe more videos like this might come from it 😊

I used to dive as much as Vittinghus until I realised he plays on good quality, bouncy courts and I'm landing my already bruised knees on hardwood lmao

Nobody can dive on courts intentionally. He is hungry for a win. He never cares about the court; he just wants to win. That's all. The difference between him and you is that you play for diving and fun, while he always plays to win. He just doesn't know when to quit.

Everything is mixed up, emotions, tears, ups and downs of course. The more you watch, the more you feel how athletes struggle to build their careers. Hopefully Hans will be more successful in the future, as a coach or commentator perhaps. Thanks Ben for this best Video and Merry Christmas 🤶 🌲

@@BenBeckmanBadminton I think it was a good part 2. There were a lot of things I did not know about HKV until your video highlighted them (and rightfully so as those were private moments/events). I think overall, considering both parts, the tone was very much like a documentary of a fallen hero who is still very much alive! =)

This documentary is tremendous Ben and I very much enjoyed both parts, which you were wise to split I think! I’ve been a subscriber for a long time and it’s clear that your editing skills are improving too, it was very well put together. It was different than your usual videos in that it was all in HKSV’s words, which made it really personal. Really, well done! Your channel deserves success and I hope it continues to grow! 😘❤️
