Soooo sweeet. She “passed” and became famous.🙏🏽 Bless her heart 💜! It took all those years for her to feel comfortable enough to sing the old ‘negro’ songs that her dad sang in their home. 🥺
@JacquelineTarleton3 ай бұрын
Yes she was African American. She was told when she was 17 years old. She broke many barriers but has received no credit neither did she seek them. She performed. She stood her ground in a brutal world quietly opening doors with a big voice - doors that wouldn’t be discovered broken down for decades to come. She was herself. She sent signals even in this interview. Cheers ~

I had to explain to my much younger husband that "freaking" or the more common "freakin" has nothing to do with freaks; it's Old School for "very."

You can feel her passion for performing and Hello Dolly. Hearing her do Before the parade passes by and reciting lines is amazing!! If she could have done the revival, you bet she would have done it!

02:30 "You're whitewashing." Carol is remarkably forthright and 100% honest. She took a compliment about being a good mother, and turned it around to reflect the truth. Listen again. She's so open, letting her guard down in the usual celeb interview.

Yeah, she's mixed race, 1/4 black I think (1/2 Jewish 1/4 German). That song that her father (whose mother was black) taught her is a black spiritual/slave song ("pharaoh's army got drowneded") I wonder how many people caught that.

I was wondering how she was doing. It's so incredible to see her in this interview. She's still so vivacious, so vital. Truly one of the all-time greats. Doesn't some film producer out there want to take advantage of her obviously still-immense talent & (re-)make "Hello, Dolly", which was HER ROLE ONLY (Streisand should NEVER have been cast in the film) while she's still with us? Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! Carol Channing will ALWAYS be one of America's most priceless treasures.

Carol and Betty White are models for women of all ages to emulate- I think it boils down to attitude- they are both so positive and focussed.
@HlywdStar7 жыл бұрын
The older I get, the more I realize that "attitude is everything"...
@oksills5 жыл бұрын
Yes but Carol is a positive module while Betty is a negative example. Betty White began as a positive model and finished as a nasty, filthy, crude , rude example of of everything not to be!

Carol Channing was an excellent musician. Her range was amazing. She could reach the highest soprano to the lowest bass. Just because he delivered her songs with humor-and often tragedy-people tend to discount her musical talents.

REMARKABLE! Brings tears to ny eyes. She so SINCERE. I think that's what has kept her going. Must be. Never mind that she can't sing. In truth she never could. As with Merman, it was never ABOUT "singing." It's always been about CHARACTER and LOVE of LIFE.

It was a thrill being that close to her when, after appearing at a new clothing store fabulous Wilkes Bashford opened across the street from his old one, she ran out of it to her car to avoid autograph seekers outside. However, another singing star, Leslie Uggams, was a bit more relaxago ed as she walked towards the entrance of Bashford's new clothing store. If my memory serves me rightly, after all, this was long in San Francisco the night Mary Martin's dear friend, Janet Gaynor, was killed in an cab, Uggams sang Angela Lansbury's "If he walked into his life." You can literally call Wilkes the Noel Coward of clothing store owners. A fabulous human being.
