No they had them in the 1960's

No locos have had glowing fireboxes since the 1990s stock I believe

They look so much better when the front coupling is removed. I do know why there has to be such a wide gap between the Loco and the first wagon. You could nearly drive a OO scale Bus through there. Martin. Thailand.
