Sheffield based model railway retailer Rails of Sheffield hosted a grand opening of its newly refurbished retail store and announced a new out-of-town warehouse on 15 April.

Congratulations! I love dealing with Rails online. The refurb looks fantastic. If I ever find myself in Sheffield up from my home on the South Coast, I'll make sure to visit and bring my pocket money! 👍

the problem in london is business rates i expect, its a pity, i remember Beatties in high holborn,there used to be a good model shop in chiswick

I remember Beatties in Holborn. It was amazing. I remember going and seeing all the Marklin products and couldn't believe how good they were.

Under any normal circumstance I would have been there but I was in Wales instead of Huddersfield so couldn't make it. Nice video and a very nice and clean store

Thank god for that, I visited the old shop several years ago while holidaying in that part of the world and was disappointed with not being able to view items because they were under lock and key in ageing display cases.

Impressive effort by Rails of Sheffield in Sheffield 😉😊👍 Shame it's too far from me. Over the past 20-30 years (a lot in the past five years) my town has lost six model shops. It's good to hear ROS talking about Improved quality and customer service. As a mail order buyer these days, I'd like to see mail order retailers, thoroughly check stock from certain manufacturers before despatch so as to avoid quality control issues slipping through the retail net and ending up with disappointment and agro for the customer (upon receipt). When I last purchased from ROS all was well I hasten to add, but there's nothing worse than poor build quality, not checked in the factory, nor by the retailer, arriving with the customer, with quality control issues, faults or damaged etc - especially if it's a present. ROS' eBay sales are poorly managed with an awful ethos and cultural attitude towards eBay customers and enquiries etc. See other comments here too. My last purchase via eBay with ROS was fine, but when I have enquired in the past about other models and damage, faults etc were not highlighted by ROS (also some damaged goods were incorrectly described) and after awhile my questions were not answered and I was basically 'ghosted' (sent to Coventry in old money). Not acceptable, ROS lost that sale to another that I then purchased new from.

This model shop looks really cool because you can easily see where the items are, but unfortunately I live down in Bristol and from here to there it's about 3h 37minutes

What about Howes - I know they're not quite as quaint as their old 'high street' store once was, but you - pre pandemic/plandemic - could still pop in for a chat and to collect/purchase. Have you tried looking at the Model Shops Directory?

@@musoseven8218 Howes aren't much of a shop any more. Our nearest was Bourton on the Water but that closed. Swindon, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Brackley are nearest.

@@John2E0GTU Hi, BotW closed? Thats been there since I was a boy, I'm nearly 60 now! That's sad. Indeed Howes is just a warehouse, understandable as they're mail order now. Different times sadly🤔🤔

The shop looks brill but the ebay side is terrible, they don't highlight issues with 2nd hand items and have a take it or leave it attitude... If you give honest feedback about your purchase they basically BLOCK YOU which is so childish...

@@musoseven8218 you buy something you like via ebay, the description is never accurate and you you've over paid. They basically say return it or keep it attitude. The heart always leads unfortunately... I've been blocked 3 times by them. I won't buy from them now.

@@delticnapierdccsound4236 I never got that far with them - recieving or making a purchase - but when I pointed out issues with pricing and a product (damage etc)? They initially apologised, I then made a lesser, but reasoned, reasonable offer, they withdrew the items, refused to reply, then blocked me. I complained to eBay but to no avail. Other times, they advertise job lots of bits and bobs for stupidly low prices - clearly their eBay section is both clueless and cynical? I'm not sure that everyone there is an enthusiast nor are they knowledgeable, I'm guessing that they're not paid well either?

@@musoseven8218 I've been to the shop a few times. All the counter staff are young kids basically.. They are not very helpful and hate it when you want to test a loco before purchase..And when ur not happy and want to try another,well thats when the huffing n puffing starts... A few years back,i bought the n gauge 68 from the shop. I went through about 4 locos before i found a good one... They really were not happy... But never again. I would rather pay £10 more for a loco from someone that is right... .

They over charged me for 4 hard to get hold of coaches I only wanted 3 as 2 where duplicated but they wouldn't sell 3 I reluctantly bought the fourth as it was part of the listing thinking I could sell it on, but at £69 no one will buy it greedy shop
