In flight from war-torn Laos, Hmong refugees began settling in Minnesota in the 1970s. Today the Twin Cities is home to the largest population of Hmong in America. As their new country now grapples with a racial reckoning, Hmong American leaders are reaching across racial and ethnic lines to fight anti-Asian hate and systemic racism.

I’m a young Hmong American…I wish the elders would have spoken these facts and passed down the knowledge that they knew without the backing of the media. We don’t need the media’s help. We are Chinese, South Chinese/perhaps even roots to Mongolia, whether we like it or not. Accept what you are. Hmong is a contemporary term, a term that was created to protect us. We always had a chip on our shoulders. When the time comes I hope and pray that we remember how our folk got in this country. Is it better to die for your homeland? Or is it better to die for freedom? Or is it better to die for what you believe in. Grave mistakes are already made once you bring your problems into other peoples problems. Our story is not like the Black Americans at all. That is their story not ours. Too naive is the older generation…when you deliberately say the C.I.A. Is why we are here….we already lost. That is the C.I.A.’s job at least in the olden days.

The *ONLY TIME* where I will tell an individual to go back to their own Territory/Province/Country *IS IF* the individual/individuals who/whom is/are in my Territory/Province/Country *HATES IT TO THE CORE OF HIS/HER/THEIR SOUL/SOULS BY ENDLESSLY COMPLAINING - EVEN USING VERBAL THREATS - ABOUT HOW TERRIBLE MY TERRITORY/PROVINCE/COUNTRY IS AND THAT MY TERRITORY/PROVINCE/COUNTRY SHOULD "BOW DOWN" TO THEIR OWN TERRITORY/PROVINCE/COUNTRY.!*
