Thanks for this trip Todd. That's a great deal for your land, and for the Hmong families who can make some money from it. It's a win win for all of you. You are right about the trees, best to keep them. That will be a great resort when they have finished the accommodation and so cheap for entry for a swim in beautiful surroundings. Mina's swimming is coming on as is Neenee's 🙂 Happy that you shared this with us. God bless you all 😀❤🙏

Hey Todd and Nina, seriously... do be careful with that piece of land! First, its obviously an area subject to flooding. That means if the land is cleared you WILL loose the soil through erosion. At a minimum you must keep, not "just a few trees", but all deep rooted vegetation, especially on sloped areas. Try and keep ALL vegetation on watercourse banks. I guarantee that if you dont you will end up in 2 or 3 years with a block of land of no use for any kind of farming, or much else. I speak from a substantial knowledge base and experience on these matters. Unless you do, your share croppers will get 2 or 3 years rent free productive use from it, and then go elsewhere. Happens all the time with high rainfall / tropical areas. Please think carefully! It will save you a lot of future angst.

Hi Guys Getting people to clear land so they can plant something on it for a couple of years is a win win situation. I agree casssava is one of those crops that is hard on land, but it is very popular as there is allways a market for it and it takes less effort to grow than other crops. We have learnt that planting velvet beans inbetween the rowes is a good way to put nitrigen back into the soil. As for the land tax there a three basic prices. Farm land, housing land, and buissiness land. It is cheap here. One interesting thing I found out was that all land now has to have a yellow paper on it, as opposed to a white paper, and the tax is lower on yellow paper land than white paper. This maybe why you are paying less tax this time.

The population density in Lao is low so there are fewer people per KM to support the infrastructure which makes it harder to provide the infrastructure. Bridges must take priority over pavement. Pothole close to good bridge - okay. It cost you more in fuel cost to go pay the tax than the tax cost. 😉

I have a tiny dragon fruit farm here in Florida on my property. Those Hmong can start up a dragon fruit farm. It takes 3 years to get first fruit, but if you use mature branch cuttings from mother plants already bearing fruit, you can get fruit in one year. The nearby creek can provide water in the dryer months. Dragon fruit cactus does not drain the soil of nutrients, in fact it does pretty good in sandy soil or almost all sand. Dragon fruit brings in decent money like a cash crop, but does not deplete the soil like most cash crops do. Thank you for helping the Hmong people. 🙏👍🏻

Gidday Todd, I would love for someone to farm my land in exchange in keeping the paddocks from growing over, definitely a win win for both parties. Unfortunately I have no access to these hard working Laotian and Hmong folk, however I know of some locals here that bring in Thai's during Berry picking season whereby they get their return airfares, a salary based on local rates and accommodation fully paid for during their stay, not bad deal for the Thai folk if they aren't exploited by some unscrupulous lowlifes. The go-karts looks fun. Give my regards to Neenee and Mina. /Al
