Hello there - I've built up the very cheap Hobby Boss 1/48 Grumman Hellcat for a proper build review. This video includes a step by step build through, how to improve the kit, plus a general overview and critique.
All in all, its a solid kit, beset by accuracy problems, but a great platform for beginners and advanced modellers alike to try out their skills.
I hope to actually put some paint on this kit soon, so stay tuned and thanks for watching. Cheers, Chris

By far the best “review” I’ve seen, as you said much better than the usual sprue tours, the heads up on potential pitfalls and just a good feel for the work that’s going to be involved, excellent!!!. I’ll watch everyone you put out.👍👍

Thanks Frank, I really appreciate that! I feel like its the best way for anyone - beginner or experienced - to really get a handle on a kit. I've got two more build reviews done and dusted, just need to get some time in front of the camera to get them going. I'll continue to do it this way, because it means I can also dive in and finish building it anyway! Don't hold back with any suggestions I can improve how I do it either, really appreciate any and all feedback. Cheers, Chris

it really helped out quite a bit. Thank you very much for this video on things to look for. I have done all the riveting and I have put the wiring on the engine and paint it up the cockpit. Looking forward to completing it. Thanks again for all of your information, very informative I appreciate it

Hidden detail seems to be standard procedure with Hobby Boss. Their Corsair had similar detail problems. Still, I've enjoyed the two kit I've built so far.

Hey Chris what's going on buddy, you are starting to make the videos really professional 😁. All in focus and everything. I just stepped up to 1/48 myself out of the 4 kits I got in that scale two are hobbyboss, I like the plastic is quite solid (I am used to airfix recycled milk bottle plastic 😏).... looks like a perfect kit to practice adding riveting and such to me. Take it easy buddy

Cheers Vasili! Yes, I'm finally getting the hang on actually getting stuff on screen! And Airfix plastic is definitely one of its problems, I swear I could wash my dog with its soapy like texture. The HB kits are dirt cheap, mine might end up as a paint mule or finished - who know! Thanks mate, hope to have more videos up soon.

The only reason I would want this is the wing fold unless you want to spend on an aftermarket. But, again making different kits is always fun.

Agreed...its hard to find a decent Hellcat - was hoping Tamiya would tackle it next, in 1/32 or 1/48...

I’ve just had a parcel from the United States from your Facebook friend she sent me a hell cat hobby boss how cat 148 It looks like a really nice kit the lady who I know on Facebook sent it to me on my birthday I am looking forward to making it 148 scale

Nice review but I am sticking with my two Eduard kits. I did enjoy building the Hobby Boss Wildcat, though.

thanks Dave. Yes, for the Hellcat fans, thank Dog below that there's the Eduard kits - although they don't have the wingfold (which I don't care for anyway). A bit more expensive, but worth it in the end. I enjoyed my Wildcatfish too - quirky little build that uses the same engineering as this one. But has external rivets for some reason? I've got the Trumpeter Wildcat in 1/32 that looks like a lot of fun too. Cheers, Chris

Excellent review mate, but sheesh no gun barrels or rivets? Think your'e right someone phoned this one in it seems, but yeah for an extended project seems a good canvas to start with.

Their p40m is horrible too, i will never buy hobbybumm again as the hb Danish leopard also had issues, two out of two IS a fail!
