G'day everyone,
A common question that i am asked by people who want to get into the hobby, is 'where do I buy my metal from?' Buying metal suitable for hobby machining can at times be difficult because many industrial suppliers will want to sell you full length stock, around 3.6m, which is not suitable for me when I am only chasing maybe 1m of stock or less.
There is also some confusion as to which alloys and grades of material that I use. There are many different alloys of aluminium, brass and steel to choose from, each with their own characteristics that may or may not make them suitable for your needs. Various grades will also machine differently and have different physical properties.
In this video I will be discussing what grades of metal I use in the workshop, what they are like to machine and where I buy my metal from. I hope you enjoy the video.
