Oh I have a hobby nightmare story for you, Guy is playing at an event in Western Australia. He has a lovely Poryphon Knight from Forge World which he slaved away to pay for, build and paint. The venue is a public one, so has regular people pop in for a look along the way, and a guy walks up to the giant knight. "Wow, that looks great!" he exclaims, before picking it up. He turns it over in his hands, fumbles and drops the knight to the deck, smashing it entirely. He turns to the mortified owner and says "uh, sorry, I can pay for a new one." The owner, in stunned disbelief just says "that's not the point" and proceeds to pack up all of his remaining models and leaves the event.

@@northernexile I just never touch super-heavies, the clue is in the name haha. But that, that was up there for cringe. Another moment was the 5th ed 40k Cowcon tournament in Rockhampton, we drove down the day before from Townsville, about 650Km, and hit the beers.... very hard. Anyway, long story short, game one, round one, one of the guys picks up his army, wasn't holding it by the balance point, and because it was a mostly old-school necron METAL army, it counterbalanced, flipped over and dropped 18 metal wraiths, 6 tomb scorpions, 3 heavy destroyers, a C'tan and necron destroyer lord on the ground. All metal, all obliterated.

@@TheOuterCircle Oh Christ that sounds horrific. Also 650km probably shows how much harder people in Australia/NZ have it. And that's not going into prices. People over here don't like having to get a 40 minute train for a game of toy soldiers. Perspective.

Mr. North sir. Just like you I immediately saw the end of that horror story with the woman leaving her husband/boyfriend and child for the toxic player coming. No faithful person is that into another person (that is not their partner) and not having some type of affair whether it is emotional or physical. If your partner insists on bringing another person along constantly, laughs at everything they do, pines away for them when they are not present, constantly texts of talks on the phone with that person they will or are cheating. Nip it in the bud immediately if it has not gotten physical or break up immediately if you know they cheated. Furthermore, the “we are just friends” defense is total BS. They are never just fiends. They are having or are working up to cheating. Don’t be a Simp. Stand up for yourself. You are worth it.

Lovecraft did not live during the 1500's. He lived during the late 19th century into the early 20th. What people who like to wail "Lovecraft wacist!" fail to give a care about was that the man was overwhelmed with fear about nearly everything around him. His writing, and the correspondence with other authors of early Sci-fi and Fantasy helped him deal with that, and he did get better towards the end of his life.

Love hearing these stories about relationships in the hobby. It makes me grateful for my wife as she’s the one who pushed me to start making and painting models. On a roadtrip we stopped into a mom and pop hobby store and I went back and forth on buying a recruitment box they had on sale for $40. She pushed me into buying it and motivated me to finish it. Now, $100’s of dollars later, we’re sitting around the kitchen table painting and building minis together, playing underworlds for her and trying to teach her 40K/Kill Team for myself!

It’s nice to have things in common but having something unique keeps things interesting, this goes for anything from films, TV programs, books, games ect... for example tonight I am working on a Necromunda campaign but she is upstairs watching her K drama's, there is stuff she would say want to try and if I like cool but if I don't nothing lost and vice versa, I have managed to get her into Blood Bowl and MTG ect.. and she wants to do some D&D or some RPG and she has got me into the Dog Training thing some K Dramas, she was the one who got me into Game of Thrones.

On the drinking age issue, as far as I know drinking has negative impacts on brain development until early 20s. I think that is mainly why the drinking age is and should be around 21 though I would imagine going to war also has some adverse effects on brain development.

Hello there Mr. Exile, I just wanted to type out a brief message of appreciation to you. I've been diving into the 40k lore rabbit hole and thanks to the mysterious workings of The Algorithm, cane across one of your Hobby Nightmares videos, and after binging through the backlog for three days straight, I'm way past the point of no return. Thanks to you and some other content creators of The Hobby, I may just go to a game store and start building my first army after I take a look at what the local game scene is like. I never thought I might fall into this particular rabbit hole that some of my friends were in some 20 years ago, and now that they've pretty much left the scene, here I am running after that train I should've already been on for all these years. Anyway, thank you for being such a great ambassador to The Hobby, you may have just given me the last push to get into playing 40K.

Completely agree with NE on "if you suspect foul behaviour, investigate it" in regards to a partner. I was with this girl once, she was, I thought, perfect. Looked incredible, beautiful curly blonde hair, smart etc etc. Fit as fuck. About 2 months into dating, I bad a feeling something was going on. She'd just recently got a smart phone, so I sneakily watched her put her unlock pattern in during a drinking session. That night when she fell asleep, I unlocked her phone and had a snoop, something I'm 100% against. However, what I saw justified my moral breach. Shed slept with 3 different guys in the past 10 days alone. She had only had the phone 10 days, so she had probably slept with 10s of people in out time together. I woke her up and told her to get the fuck out. Bad times.

I don’t personally think most girls are bi on some level, so much as they’re secure enough to admit someone of the same gender is attractive, something men struggle with. But it would probably be a mistake to assume someone else’s sexuality for sure; but I suppose In general I don’t think men and women are hugely different in that respect, but women tend to be less secretive about such desires because pop culture tells them its ok and its sexy, whereas men still can often feel as though it is deviant and something to be ashamed of. As a result, less men will admit to bisexual urges. I’ve got a pre op trans female friend who is always bemoaning the amount of straight men who want to ‘experiment’ with her secretly for example. She calls such people chasers, and they're quite common. I feel like it’s roughly equal on the amount of people who are bi either gender; women are just more likely to admit it and not feel weird about it, with the majority of both genders probably straight. That said, it’s unquantifiable and pointless speculation. I don't think most people would be OK with us trying to say they're not one way if they say they are that way.

5:45 The cat was adopted by the way. It already had that name. He didn't give the name to it. Considering the household he grew up in, it's a wonder Lovecraft turned out as good as he did. And considering all those edgy internet-racists today, Lovecraft in his time also had a surprisingly diverse circle of friends he kept in contact with. How do all these oh so horribly racist people throughout time always have so many diverse friends, and those that accuse them of said racism all turn out to come from rather homogenous groups?

Some people seem to feel the need to ritually denounce Lovecraft as a racist any time his name is mentioned. I think it's a kind of virtue signal. They are letting everyone know how progressive and enlightened they are. They usually don't even know or care about Lovecraft's works. They read that he was racist on social media and that's all they need. If you ask them what he did that was racist, they won't have an answer for you or they will all refer to the same story. It is one of his minor works and different from almost anything else he ever wrote. It's not even a Cthulhu Mythos story. He was racist by modern standards but not particularly racist by the standards of his day and he became less and less so as he got older. Technically, the drinking age in the US is decided on a state-by-state basis by state legislatures. In practice, the federal government has used its control of highway funds to dictate a drinking age of 21 to all states. Change your legal drinking age or we will withhold the money. The money is pulled out of the states with federal taxes and then dribbled back with various strings attached. It's one of the federal government's main tools for exercising power in areas where they have no legal ability to do so. This is all driven by a variety of activist groups putting pressure on the government at the federal level. Finding another lesbian in the hobby who is looking to date is going to be a tough one. Only a small number of people are in the hobby at all. Only a minority of them are women. Only about 2-3% of women are lesbians. Not all of those women will be interested in dating. Finding one of those is going to be tough.

"Lovecraft was a racist and a bigot" Yes he was. He had some really shitty takes and (allegedly, don't quote me on this) was super racist for his time. Buuuut he also gave us cosmic horror which has had a massive influence on horror and science fiction. You're right that you can disagree and dislike someone for having crappy views while still appreciating the positives they've contributed. Know Sigmund Freud? Lots of weird, odd sexual issues that he crowbarred into his work. HOWEVER, he gave us psychoanalysis, which has been indispensable in our understanding and treatment of mental health.

13:22 Mommas goodest boy 19:35 Am I the only one who'd be extremely hesitant to GM for a couple? It seems like such a landmine for problems. Like it either might devolve into basically foreplay for them or if they are in a fight fuck with the whole game. Like if it was a nation roleplay game I'd probably make a rule that their nations are not allowed to ally each other or close nearby and get on with it, but something CO-OP like D&D a hard-ban seems like the only real way. 20:54 Bringing a pre-made character before even knowing what the game is about and having 0 flexibility to them is such a massive red flag to me, because this also means they won't go with story flow. They will either refuse to change the character or only develop them on a preset path before... and don't get me started on self-inserters. 22:44 Players tend to be pretty non-appreciative. I had one dude last week legit as me why players have to keep track of their own stats and if the GM can't just do it for everyone, another player explained to him how retarded of an idea that is with 11 players. I agree to the point made that Lovecraft's huge cultural impact and the quality of his works should be judged independend of his standards as a person, may they have been outside or inside the norms of his contemporaries. However, the way his works are adapted for modern users should take the racism inherent in his stories into consideration. For instance, when writing a lovecraftian tabletop campaign one might (in my opinion should) refrain from casting mostly persons from - excuse the term, I am no english native speaker - "mixed-race" backgrounds as antagonists while labeling them inherently evil due to their ancestry. I think there is an interesting video on lovecraftian horror somewhere in the trope talk series done by Red.

Saying that "all women are bi" is very problematic. or that most women are bi or that you have never known a "true lesbian". That is a terrible thing to say, the reason being is it implies you know more about someone else than they know about them self. Could you just imagine hearing a woman you know say "Yeah my male partner never really made me happy" and you saying "Yeah but all women are a little bi" ... what the heck. It also implies that men aren't also on a scale of sexuality, that a man is either all one or the other. It also implies that when a woman show affection to someone she is in love with they're just "friends" because "all women are a little bi" so rude

If you use the word "problematic" to describe something, your opinions are automatically invalidated. ... Especially considering you quite clearly stopped listening as soon as he said that, because what he actually said was quite in line with theory on the subject. F'rinstance, he said the same was true of men - we just don't admit it. It's called the Kinsey Scale. If you're going to lecture people about how they're "problematic" for saying something, you should probably at least know enough to not make yourself look like a stupid toolbag.
