Hi hobo. I have a question. If you have extra lifepo4 batteries could you use the solar xt60 connectors to feed power into the unit thus lengthening run time? The voltage is within the parameters.

I appreciate the insight on its ideals vs reality! Got this to prepare for potential drastic weather in Canada in the years to come along with the Wave 2. I'm excited to back it up with a more DIY approach since I like the idea of a system where I'm able to swap about batteries, inverters and wires, never mind racking up extra battery capacity in case of weeks where the sun isn't shining through much.

There is a difference between the Yellow 🟨 XT60 and Orange 🟧 XT60i plugs. The XT60 provides 8 Amps and the XT60I can do more than 8 Amps with EcoFlow. Test it out for us! I liked the phantom power loss test. Never seen it beforehand in a review.👍

@@HOBOTECH The Rivers have a DC Mode option to tell them if you want Solar or Car charging, but the Deltas do not. So you can use the XT60i to tell the Delta it is solar. Some people say the ecoflows can automatically determine if it is solar or car input, but I do not know how. To me this seems like a side effect of using one input port for two things.

XT60, no, it is XT60i. The former is yellow/2-pin and the latter orange/3-pin. You only get 8A on solar if you use the 2-pin, and you can only get (up to) 15A if you use 3-pin. Anyone buying cables from ecoflow for delta 2, delta 2 max (or these newer units with LFP tech), must get the 3-pin XT60i plug. Beware, if you order online, you could be sent the older cable with 2-pin/yellow XT60 plug when you actually need the 3-pin/orange XT60i plug. Great video otherwise and thanks for all the work you do!

Great review Hobo. No additional ports on the Extra Batteries is my biggest negative for EcoFlow. That and their price. I do own the Delta Pro with extra battery, smart Generator (dual fuel), Glacier, River 2 Max and several of their solar panels. When I head out I am usually powering 2 amateur radios, laptop and 12 volt fans and light sources. The EcoFlow app does a fantastic job of monitoring all the power available/usage. A control room in your phone. Some adventures are in the sunshine others are in the rain or snow. I don't have to change plans because of the weather. 73, W1RKB

thanks goodness i had 2 ecoflows delta's(one 1300 and one 1000) this past week had a pretty bad storm that took down power lines all over town. just over 11 hrs without power. Was able to keep my fridge running during that time and when they ran low ran to work (lucky that work had power) and gave them a full charge to last the night if neeeded. luckly an hour after i got home from charging them, power was restored.

Thank you (again) for the in-depth review. My two takeaways are that using an EcoFlow product as the front end of a solar solution can’t be beat. The software and outputs are top notch. But, it seems it would be better and cheaper to use server rack batteries combined with a decent MPPT controller as a back end solution if you were hoping or planning to continue to expand you capacity over the years?

Professor Hobo Tech Nose product review! He has a nose for solar tech! 🎉😊 Ecoflow sucks. I just got the Bluetti 200Max for $1500. Loving it. Got that mostly based on relative performance of Ecoflow vs Bluetti’s smaller power stations. The Bluetti EB3A blew the Ecoflow River Plus away. Of course my much smaller Jackery Explorer 300 is waaay more convenient to use, and seems to hold more usable juice than both of those! I’d of considered getting a bigger Jackery but they are considerably behind in that realm. Thanks for the great reviews!

Great video as usual. Another KZfaq video showed the AC input actually hitting and running at approximately 2152W when the output was around approximately 1800W, don't remember the exact numbers but that’s close. I thought that was very interesting. Also the Ecoflow Max2 uses XT60i cable connectors which have an extra wire allowing it to carry more current than the XT60 cables.
@HOBOTECH

@HOBOTECH Nice to know. I'm not sure if you saw the other information I provided. Also, the Ecoflow Max2 uses XT60i cable connectors, which have an extra wire, allowing it to carry more current than the XT60 cables. You were using the standard XT60 cables, which is why you were limited to 8 amps in your solar charging test. I've learned a lot from your videos and appreciate your time and effort.

On the Delta 2 Max an XT60 connector limits the input charging rate to 8 amps. The XT60i connector with center connector tells the Delta it is connected to solar and allows charging at the full 15 amps limit.

Yes charging bricks are cumbersome, but if the internal brick fails it's much more difficult to replace than an external variant.
@AlRoderick
@AlRoderick Жыл бұрын
This is true, but if its internal AC charger fails, you can take any charging brick that delivers in the right voltage range and plug it into one of the solar ports.
@HOBOTECH
@HOBOTECH Жыл бұрын
Problem with external bricks are no UPS features and much slower charge rates. Modern units use bidirectional inverters that double as high speed chargers. If it breaks you have a 5yr warranty.

Some info on the XT60i connectors and how the extra pin is being used to limit or allow more than 8A: Over 8A has the center "i" pin connected to the NEGATIVE lead of the XT60i connector (the side that is not square) The cables meant for car cigarette lighter charging have the center "i" pin of the XT60i connector going to the POSITIVE lead. (square side) This limits it to 8A. If you build your own cable and do not connect the center "i" pin to either positive or negative, it will default to the 8A limit. Same with normal XT60. I have tested the included "car " cable and some 3rd party solar cables to verify this as well as made my own cable. Hope this helps.

One thing I’ve never liked about EcoFlow is the shape of their power stations. They’ve put the info screen on the long end, so it would stick out too far from a house wall (or a tent wall if outdoors). I do really like the Wave 2 product though. I purchased 2 of the BLUETTI AC180 products. I consider the AC180 the “Goldilocks” of the power stations for having decent power without the Olympian weight. My only complaints about the AC180: loud fan even on silent mode, and failing Professor Hobo’s music amp test (prominent buzzing interference noise). Thanks for another great review Professor! Will the next video feature Cowboys from H*ll? 😉

Even if you don’t live in a hurricane region, ANYTIME you lose power, you need this. Refrigerator & freezers stay cold about 2 hrs IF you leave them closed. I lost power (~30,000 citizens in all) 2x last month. It was high 80’s first time, low 90{s the 2nd. If didn’t have one of these at the time. Has to throw out ice cream and other foods were thawing in freezer. No power..no air conditioning, my puppy was miserable & I wasn’t happy either. So no I own the Delta 2 Max, extra battery & 2 x 220 w bifacial solar panels. So now I power my freezer and internet all the time with this system. If no AC I have large fans to get us by til power comes back on. My refrigerator is about 20 feet away so I have a 12 gauge extension cord to run that as well. With 4,096 watts I can go quite awhile especially when I have 440 watts of solar charging during this time. Even if you don’t experience power outages, you can get “free power” and power many items in your house with the power of the sun. You don’t have to buy all I did at once. Start with the DM2 & 1 x 220W solar panel…add the extra battery & another panel down the road.

Just like in the previous idle consumption explanation, you should note that the watt hours shown on the screen is the required energy you need to charge back into the system, not the actual battery capacity drained during the idling test.

It's virtually the same as I use the solar input to recharge.

@@HOBOTECH For my Delta 2 it's 1086 watt hours in from solar, so about 94% efficient. So there's some losses.

Any plans to test the Dabbson DBS2300 which seems to be a very direct competitor to this Ecoflow Delta2 Max? So far it is enjoying high consumer ratings, and is very close spec-wise. It also has extra batteries that seem better designed. It takes less solar though, for a downside.

Great Review, but it leaves me with some questions. I can run my 13,000 btu RV roof air with my new Delta 2 Max but not if I am trying to charge it at the same time with a generator. If I try to do that the system shuts down; perhaps a soft start for the AC unit would mitigate that problem. Also this past week I had our first two day power outage. There was no solar to be had but the 2 Max acted as a decent load buffer for the inverter generator as refrigerators and well pump went thru their cycles. I put the regen speed down to 300 watts unless the charge fell low and just let the generator coast; still the 2500 watt inverter generator would need to speed up and slow down as the loads cycled. Watching your video where you simulate solar with AC to DC transformers makes me wonder if that is not a better way to maintain the EcoFlow’s charge with my generator? I see an AC to DC 48v transformer on Amazon for about $35. Seems like on mediocre solar days using one or both XT60 inputs from the generator through a DC transformer/transformers might be preferable, as then I could let this generator just coast at an ‘average’ usage rate without putting it through and listening to all the up and down surges. Probably would be easier on the appliances as well?

I have a question about the ac pass-through mode. I have the standard delta 2 that has a maximum charge rate of 1200 W when plugged in to AC power. let’s say I had a demand on the AC output of 1800 W, would it supply that 1800 W directly through the plug (bypassing the battery), or would it supply only 1200 W and pull the other 600 from the Battery to supply 1800 watts?

Great review. I want to use this unit for critical load backup in my house. My question, is it possible to add an EG4 battery to recharge the Delta 2 Max. I was looking at this battery which has a 5120wh capacity versus the extra battery which only gives me an additional 1000wh for the same price.

Perfect presentation. But I found that the station shows data of input and output power, which can differ from real data by 120 up to 210 W. Did you make any power measurements ? Thank you for your reply. Peter

My question is, whether the device has a bypass functionality, between solar controller to outputs? Eg. when load is connected to AC output, battery is charged to 100% and solar power is delivered, whether power is transmitted directly from solar controller to AC output? or (like now after "update" in original delta max) power is consumed from the battery and discharge it to 97% then solar controller is activated, charging battery to 100%, then battery drained to 97%..? Cycles repeats to infinity.

Dear ECOFLOW - Just ‘BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE” - Make and Charge for the all encompassing UNITS! - Every single option every single reviewers have asked for, including the separate battery usage and stand alone charging - and CHARGE $$$ for the system - it is ridiculous at this point that they have not done so.. I have to buy so many gadgets to get what should be a turn key operation. “JUST DO IT!” Let’s Go !!!

Dual controllers are better for people who travel with a semi perm solar installation. Very few folks have enough physical space to exceed 500w on the roof. Then when they stop, you can then deploy extra panels. Or you can use the extra port and charge from your car dc port, offering snvery seamless charging option.
