You are spot on about supply issues in China. Played as Mao, took out the north warlords and prepped for Japan’s attack. The most tedious thing is pushing into Japan’s puppets and build supply hub as you push.

It's a really nice guide, but keep in mind that this is pretty much a best case scenario. He's very lucky with the early border clashes and the Allies are rather passive in the shown playthrough so they got almost no war score when Japan caps. You'll definitely want to check your score before actually finishing Japan off. If you don't have at least like 80 % participation you might want to drag out the war and waste some manpower in SE Asia or strat bomb the home islands or sink some ships before you end the war. If the UK or US gets a chance to take any tiles in China (regardless if they're your cores) or puppet Japan or Micronesia, they WILL do so, which means you're either restarting or doing a world conquest.

As of BBA, border conflicts have been changed or bugged so that now you get hit by terrain penalties. This means that certain areas become nigh impossible to take via border conflict. It doesn't seem to matter where in the border against the target you set up, the AI seems to have a set province they want to target, and you are mostly screwed if they decide to target somewhere that's a mountain or requiring a river crossing. Overall, having to make heavy use of border conflict mechanic really hammers home how outdated the waking the tiger dlc feels and just how completely abandoned the mechanic is by paradox. Why is the location of the border conflict so random? And even if it was intentional to make it random, why are the tooltips straight up wrong (he started a border conflict in Jianxi and it randomly flips to Fujian). Worse still this happens after you click and commit your precious political power. Why not make it so that you 'trigger border conflict at "your territory", and tell us that it has a chance of targeting any of the bordering states? Why is there no way to know when the cooldown for another border conflict is over without keeping the decision tab open and waiting for it to pop back again? Why doesn't the game tell us that there's a cooldown in the first place?

I have found from previous experiences with Japanese naval invasions that sometimes it's best to use a fallback line on the ports and the surrounding tiles. When you create large "coastal garrisons" armies with area defense orders, the AI does this weird division shuffling when they respond to naval invasions and leaves tiles unguarded to help defend the ones they're being invaded.

I've been trying like 15 times, doing the same things you did, I've lost every single border clashe. I'm done with this useless China achievement.

Guide is too old! Doesn't work anymore. Don't attempt it! (Be aware, Paradox made this UTTERLY BROKEN) Lost 9 out of 10 border conflicts, didn't matter if I had any equipment nor the template. Paradox did something to this Mechanic.

I used to use a technique of going fascist as Guanxi so I could join Japan's faction and then take over china with the nationalist cooperation focus tree without being immediately pushed into a war with Japan.

I actually start off by building infra as Guanxi the extra resources are really good and infra construction speed not affected by toaster economy like civ construction

A tip for the peace deal, puppet Manchuko, Mengchuko and China. That way, the UK can't make supervised states. It's still risky. Take all of Japan's provinces first and then go for China.

Would it be possible to please get an update for this? I've been trying for Battlecry lately and I get completely stomped in the border conflicts now, I had my best luck with 20 width all inf with support arty and still lost after a many month long engagement, using more line arty focused divisions folded really quickly. Am really not sure what to do and would really appreciate any ideas?

I tried this a couple of times in BBA. Border conflicts does not work anymore. I tried the exact same tactis you used, and after many frustrations, i tried 21 width. nonetheless, china and warlords all put their best units which had engineer companies on the border. My units couldn't withstand the mountains, i've got all the possible buffs to infantry in that time. Maybe they nerfed the conflicts. Can you look at it and try again? I don't wanna try the Sinkiang game. Update: I went along and prepared 2 30 width mountaineer divisions along with 4 21 width regular infantry, when equipped they worked just fine. I delayed two focuses by going for the research slot first, but i think it might cost me japan invading china way before me, i will update as much as i can.

With the new coordination mechanics introduced in BBA for battle this guide nolonger works for border conflicts. Sorry bittersteel: you are going to have to do this one again!

As another way of scamming the ironman autosave, you can go to savegame directory and ctrl-c ctrl-v the save file before taking important decisions

If you don't mind being cheeky, building a few transport planes early will keep your border skirmish army supplied. You might have to add an airbase here and there also to get coverage, but that is still way faster than building a supply hub.

I really wish trains were researched for basically all nations. By the 1930's trains were not at all new, and would be known to people in less industrialized countries too. Not only that, alot of these countries in game have tracks, but don't have trains researched? Why? Sucks wasting a research slot on something like that. Also, everyone has transport planes at start...

This strategy seems completely invalid in By Blood Alone. For some reason terrain maluses effect border skirmishes now when they didn't used to. Even with the exact same infantry division you made, the attack and breakthrough is cut in half and it's impossible to defeat Nationalist Troops.

This achievement is a major pain in the butt. I have tried it so many times. The most annoying thing is when Germany lost, for whatever reason China was puppeted by the UK when they weren't even apart of the war with Germany. Then after I beat Japan and got all their stuff. I couldn't beat China as they were in the Allies or even do the border conflicts as their units somehow one shot mine. I hate how somethings with the war in China is glitched a lot. I will keep on trying to get it as I only have 3 achievements as of now in this game before the new DLC.

I legit struggle with this archivment right now…. Started as Sinkiang, nearly control whole china now and am in Comintern. Axis is dead, Japan a Soviet Puppet. Right now we fight the allies because Yunnan joined Allies. So I have to take out allies and after that Comintern to get the Archivment. Fml

by the way if you get the suprior fire power doctrine you get an option in the military acadmey allowing you add infantry only for free and artillery battlions of all kind for free I think you need just 50 xp to do it. I think it in middle option but can remember the name of effect.

This campaign is surprisingly fun. Eating land slowly and then fighting Japan in a fair fight makes for a great campaign as you turn into true China

Any update on this? My 9/4s are constantly failing the border conflicts. I'm on my seventh run, china has almost capped already and I could not get one single county, not even from Yunnan.

I think im repeatedly facing problem during border clashes, that my units are not joining fight... when played first 3 attempts, it worked well, dont know if they missed any fight, but more im rushing it, it start to do more weird stuff.. now I had 3 games where they did not join like 2 clashes in row after first, or two successful clashes... orgs etc. always full, supplies proper.. there must be something.. or I am forgetting something

Its kinda weird that border wars do get a terrain modifier cancel (e.g. the terrain type has no effect on the battle) but the logistics do

I do believe the min / max crowd has determined that 27w is better than 30w. It is so dang complicated now with supply that is subject to change if it hasn't already.

Here’s my philosophy on free trade vs partial mobilization. Smaller nations it’s much more impactful to go with free trade since you really aren’t giving away many more resources and the bonus is much more impactful. On bigger nations the mobilization will give you so many more free factories that the speed is less impactful on free trade.

It's not a bug that China is booty in the peace deal. Since a few updates ago capitulated nations are part of the peace deal’s booty even if they were on the winning side. Like Poland, which I was able to annex consistently in my last few playthroughs as Russia. I am 100% sure with complety capitulated nations. I'm not entirely sure about nations which were capitulated but had kept or gained some territories.

Maybe something worth doing is building 1 dockyard so you can make some convoys and accept equipment from the allies once you are at war with Japan. (didn’t test it yet so don’t take it as a fact, just an idea)

Japan is much easier to defeat if you allow a front between them and China to remain to keep troops occupied, but of course that means more possibility of dealing with Chinese remnants or Allied puppets. On my current Free American Empire run, I held onto the Philippines after the civil war, first annexed and then released as a puppet once I flipped to the Empire from the non-aligned Junta. Right from the start I had a queue of basic Filipino infantry running, and every time they trained their own division I requested it. By the time Japan justified on the Philippines, I had an army of 15 divisions, none of which I had invested Army XP into improving, although after the civil war the new puppet retained a copy of my Freikorps template I had been improving on. Using nothing more than press-ganged natives, I managed a successful invasion of the Japanese home islands. I returned Saipan to the Micronesians who became my puppets, and even with only 13% war score I secured the southern half of the archipelago as the rightful territory of Emperor Hirohito, who returned from exile following the peace deal. Once I solve the Mexican question and purge Bolshevism from the lands of Aztlan, I will see about returning the rest of Nippon to its rightful owners.

That is why I never paradrop into Nagasaki, there is almost always some Japanese troops there waiting to naval invade you. Hiroshima, Osaka, and that unmarked Suruga port just north of Osaka are better targets. Also I don't think you need to secure air superiority over Sea of Japan or the Japan mainland as they usually don't put any air where there are no enemy troops, so just securing air superiority over Korea is enough.

If you are looking for more content seeing a run on one of the mods would be fun. Kaisserreich or one of the big ones still in active dev
