Hoka is just killing it lately. Really love my Mach 6 but may have to look into these too. 🙂

Still don’t know why we need this shoe when the mach 6 is quite the Swiss Army knife. I did have to buy the wide version of the Mach 6 but that shoe is absolutely perfect for anything from track workouts to 12 mile long runs. Tempting, nonetheless, bc Hoka rly is killing it rn.

This seems to have more cushioning than the mach6. So it will be daily trainer for people who prefer more cushioning/heavily runner. But I agree the Mach6 can definitely be used as a daily trainer which is what I use it for. But some people might prefer more cushioning. Previously that would be the Clifton but with Clifton being very popular in the lifestyle, leisure segment. My guess this is more a Clifton for runners. And I think Hoka already said this would only be sold in ‘running specialty’ shops. So it seems they definitely want to segment their shoes.

@@bensonvong that’s actually a really good point. I never considered that. I guess I also keep thinking the Clifton will eventually get the new SCF but apparently they are keeping CMEVA. So if they don’t update the Clifton, I think this shoe will probably have a beneficial slot then.

@@MedicineRunner Yeah. It is something we have seen before with stuff like cushioning like Nike air max, Adidas ultra boost. At first, the technology was aim at athletic performance/comfort but then people also realised that they are really comfortable for walking/standing all day. And these models become ‘lifestyle’ shoes. We are seeing this with ON, Hoka, ASICS, etc now. But at the end of the day, while both runners and everyday users want cushioning, runners are looking for more responsiveness and maybe more aggressive rocker/geometry while everyday users want that cushioning, stability. So I think eventually there will be slightly different foams/foam combinations to cater to both markets.

Mach 6: 37mm heel 32 forefoot, 8.3oz Skyflow: 38mm heel 33 forefoot, 9.9oz Does this perhaps have a wider base than Mach 6 for more stability? Does the Mach 6 feel unstable? How is Mach 6 for 20 mile long runs in marathon training?

Them and On have gotten popular for lifestyle athlete leisure. They might have the Clifton and Bondi as a lifestyle shoe and have something like this for performance. Just my two cents.

@@Ronaldothegoat0728definitely, I think hoka has already said the skyflow will only be sold in running specialty shoes. So they are definitely positioning it as a runner specific Clifton. As like you said, bondi and Clifton are being grabbed up by the lifestyle, leisure market.

yes! Give me a light trainer that is similar to the OG Rincon! strange choice to introduce skyflow, didn't think there is much space between mach 6 and skyward X

They need a lower stack shoe under 30mm at the heel in a neutral and stability shoe with the J frame, for those of us who like a lower stack shoe, since they destroyed the Mach 5, and have had no choice and had to jump ship and have gone over to New Balance now (Rebel V4 is similar to the Mach 5). They keep churning out the same shoe 1 or 2mm off, and giving it a new name.... how many do they need, my goodness...... the Mach 5 was iconic. 😮

Just got mine today and took it for a 5 mile run today at an easy pace and I’m mixed on how I feel about it. I love my Mach 6 and was hoping for something a little more cushioned for easy/recovery run days and it really didn’t feel any more cushioned to me for the added price. I’m down in Florida and the upper is definitely warmer than the Mach 6. Going to get some more time in them and see how the foam breaks in after some more miles.

I can actually remember when NB had only one shoe: the 320. Eventually they had the 355 too. Now look how it is. There might be 4 models for the same purpose from a given brand. Don't think Hoka's any worse than anyone else as far as adding more and more.
