@MattisWell.203 ай бұрын
I’ll just say this: Christians who misrepresent Jesus shouldn’t ruin the word “Christian” for you. They don’t represent the whole of Christianity. I identify as a Christian, but that doesn’t mean I identify with what every professing Christian is about. This woman paints Christianity with a really broad brush. It’s a bit immature.
@vtxshadow3 ай бұрын
Agreed, we shouldn’t leave Christianity but redefine what it means to be a Christian. And the best way to do that is to lead by example.

@@vtxshadow Many people are redefining what it means to be Christian. The deconstruction movement is this. But looks at how those folks are treated by the church.

I appreciate all the folks objecting to pulling politics into this channel. That said, the American evangelical community has embraced politics with both hands for the last 40 or more years, and from a distinctly partisan stance. As far as I can see, Desimber is not introducing politics into religious discussion, she is observing that that has already happened, and by others. And she is objecting to that. Folks are getting caught up with her saying a bad word and (accurately) calling Trump a liar and serial adulterer, and not dealing with the substance of her statements here.
@bradleymarshall54892 ай бұрын
Not to say you’re wrong and I would argue that the mainstream politics embraced by evangelicals over the past decades is fairly atheistic and un-Christian, but that being said the problem with what she’s doing here is she’s fixating on politics so much that she doesn’t even want to identify as a Christian at all and literally wrote a book called the Church can go to hell. It’s one thing to critique it’s another thing entirely to just throw all of Christendom under the bus

there's a difference between calling things out and abandoning/condemning Christianity altogether. She's not interested in helping evangelicals see where they might be going wrong, she just wants to condemn them all Christendom along with them. I find that inexcusable

I wish this channel would steer clear of politics. But if it does allow politics, I hope it will respect people of different political opinions. I'm a Christian Universalist and I like Trump. I am not a racist or a misogynist. I don't understand why people have a problem with Christians supporting Trump but supporting Bush Jr., who was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Iraqis, is a-okay. Trump has pursued peace in the world, helped bring our troops home from Iraq, supports health freedom, increased funding for historically black colleges and universities, and has helped the working class through supporting American-made products. @MattisWell.203 ай бұрын
Doesn’t mean we affirm their actions or behavior. Doesn’t mean we support their cause. That’s kind of just common sense. Not comparing Trump or his supporters to Hitler in any way, but if Hitler was alive today, as believers, we would still be called to love him and to believe that Jesus includes him and has his best interest, but that doesn’t mean we associate ourselves with him/what he’s about. What an atrociously evil thing that would be on our part. We love everyone, but we hate the sin. Plain and simple.

I don't care much for labels, myself. I truly understand Desimber's frustration. Looking around and seeing those who are "supposed to be" our brothers and sisters in the church dishonoring the name of Christ with their words and deeds. I myself have thought on occasion, "if this is what Christianity is, then I am not a part of it." I have a problem with some of what she is saying, though. I hope to explain this humbly. I believe Desimber ought to consider the words that she is saying more carefully. She says of herself, in response to Christians who behave in an un-Christlike way, "I can't stand in the same spot as you... and be alright with myself." And yet, where did Jesus stand? She beautifully explains the dissonance between Christ and the church. "Everywhere you look in the scripture, Christ is loving somebody, no matter what they was doing." The behavior she (rightfully!) praises in Christ, she seems to be neglecting herself. Jesus was alright to be associated with some major losers. People kind of like us. I want to be clear, it is unquestionably tragic that the believers who ought to be fellowshipping with Desimber, sharpening and encouraging her, have instead alienated her with their un-Christlike behavior. But he taught us to turn the other cheek. Easier said than done. But we ought to try. I love Desimber's heart to acknowledge what is broken in contemporary Christian culture, to advocate and to fight for what is right. But we cannot fight for what is right if we walk away. All that said, there is a lot of important truth in her words.

NEWS FLASH!!! Words in and of themselves aren’t bad. It’s the heart behind them. Now, you could argue that her heart behind the specific strong language she was using is bad, but that’s a whole ‘nother topic. My point here is who decides what words are fine and what words are bad? It’s all arbitrary. Because in some countries, certain words you’d consider are inherently bad to use have no negative associations in their world, or are the equivalent of using words like “dang”, “heck” or “crap”, which are just the slang versions of “damn”, “hell” and “shit”🫢 They all essentially mean the same thing. So if you have a problem with the stronger versions of those words, then the slang versions should be just as offensive. See, it’s all arbitrary. Language is constantly evolving, and so many years down the road there might be certain language you are using that will be considered strong language or derogatory in someway maybe long after you’re gone.

@@dorinamary7863 Jesus judged the scribes and pharisees harshly because they were religious people into legalism, which lead them into being judgemental towards others, hypocritical, self-righteous and callous in their treatment of their fellow man, which is exactly where religion and legalism will lead you every time. You'll constantly be trying to pluck the speck out of someone else's eye while not even noticing the plank in your own eye. Pay more attention to whom Jesus attacks in the Gospels. He never attacks the ordinary people who have life hard enough trying to struggle with all their issues. Jesus attacks religious people who keep the ordinary people below them in bondage with the letter of the law, which brings death, loading people up with heavy burdens that they can't possibly carry and instead of helping them carry the burden, these pious religious people instead sit back and judge and condemn and walk away feeling superior to these poor people that they've crushed. Jesus always punches upwards, not downwards. Christians have become the new pharisees, the very type of people Jesus was constantly attacking and also the very type of people who murdered him because he was a threat to their whole religious system. It's now the Christians who are all about burdening people down with legalism until they've got them in bondage to fear and guilt, so that the church can continue getting money and time out of them. Just look at your own behaviour here. You're making a fuss because somebody said a couple of naugty words. I'd say that's trying to remove the speck in someone else's eye while ignoring the plank in your own eye. Seriously? Someone says a couple of naughty words and you immediately jump on your high horse to attack them for it? You've got way bigger issues you need to be dealing with within yourself. For starters, you need to learn to ditch legalism and stop being a christian pharisee, because as long as you're into legalism then you belong to the very class of people in society that Jesus opposed fiercely and that wanted him dead. If Jesus came back in the flesh today Christian pharisees who love legalism would murder him again. He wouldn't be attacking the ordinary person in the street that you guys want him to attack, he'd be attacking you guys, and because you're more into the letter of the law, which brings death, than you're into the Living Word who brings life, you'd have no choice but to kill him to preserve your whole system. You'd hate Him. He'd be constantly showing leniency to all the people you guys want to judge while getting up in your face and giving you a series of verbal lashings, just as he did with the original pharisees.
