Listening in 2023, and this song just never gets old. There is something so damn catchy about it -- the melody, the lyric, the hook, the raggedy vocals, it all adds up to a CLASSIC rock song. Kudos to Billy Corgan and Courtney Love. Also Melissa Auf Der Maur on bass and backing vocal, simply stunning!

try looking up Slowdive, Magnapop, Low, Dandy Warhols, etc... the end of the 90s is when all the alt subgenres (dream pop, shoegaze, darkwave, alternative, indie rock, etc) started to merge. This would be slightly more uptempo than most dream pop but it has the signature sound.

Sometime in your life go to LA. Rent a car and drive up into Malibu Canyon from the 101 and up over the hills to look out over the pacific. Any of the roads down through Charmlee State Park or by Pepperdine University or Leo Carillio. I'm saying this as someone who grew up in LA and am currently sitting in London. I hate Los Angeles but at any given moment there are few places I dream about more. Don't go in summer as it's a flaming hellscape.

Crash and burn All the stars explode tonight How'd you get so desperate? How'd you stay alive? Help me, please Burn the sorrow from your eyes Oh, come on be alive again Don't lay down and die! Hey, hey You know what to do Oh, baby, drive away from Malibu Get well soon Please don't go any higher How are you so burnt when You're barely on fire? Cry to the angels I'm gonna rescue you I'm gonna set you free tonight, baby Pour over me Hey, hey We're all watching you Oh, baby, fly away to Malibu Cry to the angels And let them swallow you Go and part the sea, yeah, in Malibu And the sun goes down I watch you slip away And the sun goes down I walk into the waves And the sun goes down I watch you slip away And I would And I knew Love would tear you apart Oh, and I knew The darkest secret of your heart Hey, hey I'm gonna follow you Oh baby, fly away, yeah, to Malibu Oceans of angels Oceans of stars Down by the sea is where you Drown your scars I can't be near you The light just radiates I can't be near you The light just radiates Source: LyricFind

Billy Corgan helped co write some of the hooks musically on the album Celebrity Skin, but that is it. Billy Corgan has said this in interwiews. Kurt NEVER wrote any of the band Hole's lyrics or their music.. However, Courtney Love wrote the Lyrics for Nirvana's song, Penny Royal Tea. Now those are FACTS. Researched facts. Fun Fact: Just because a woman is a drug addict doesn’t mean she’s a crazy or a bad person. My own mother was addicted to meth for most of my childhood and even though it led to some very bad times, I felt her love and know that she always tried her best to put me first. It just gets hard when your past is in the way of your path but it gets better. That’s how I know Frances still loves her mom and dad.

+Celio19891 I think I agree. The 60's were incredible in terms of innovation and the scope of what happened in 10 years -- but people were all over the map as far as what "popular music" meant and what they loved. The 90's were more focused because we'd already _had_ the 60's and 70's and 80's. It was like a distilling of what was really just *bad ass good.* But why the F did it have to stop? Why do we have the ClusterFuck that is today's popular music. Could we just nuke them all and start over?

Celebrity Skin is such a great and mature album, it never gets old. You can feel every single identity of each one of the members in every song, and how they blend together in a rare chemistry. If you still play this record for someone 10 years from now they will never imagine it's a late 90's album.

One of the greatest? I wouldn't go that far. I can name 10 females from the 90's that would shame her. Watch this :Alanis Morissette, Beth Gibbons (Portishead) Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) there's 3. Edit for Delores from (The Cranberries) proceed.

And yes I agree, there are many female fronted bands from the 90’s that have much more talent than Courtney.. The Breeders, The Cardigans, No Doubt (don’t judge! They were crazy talented and pioneering), 4 None Blondes.. Just to add a few more

This song is a masterpiece. I loved it when it first came out and I love it even more now. When I listen to the lyrics, it sounds very much like a poem to her deceased husband, Kurt Cobain. This entire album is really fantastic. One of Courtney's bests, she has a lot to choose from, but this one makes me think of Kurt. Love you so much Courtney Love Cobain! You truly are The Queen of Grunge! Love, Pia Paradis
