The whole "get your insulin going" is a video all unto itself and is THE #1 THING I wish I knew when I was diagnosed. Even just a short walk or doing a bit of work on my bike in the garage, it's enough to DOUBLE my own personal insulin sensitivity

Couldn't agree more - it's SO HUGELY IMPACTFUL!!!! And it's really powerful because it's in our control, and that's really empowering to me because it feels like so little is actually in our control to be honest, so I'll take anything I can get!!

I usually don’t comment on Line about my diabetes ( not much)but I was looking at your you tube videos and extremely impressed with your great presentations. I have been a type T1D for 70 years (seventy) before at home blood testing, boiled our needles , syringes and sharpened needles on a stone etc etc. been on a Medtronic pump for 20 years and very unhappy with the 770g system with sensor accuracy which has taken my A1C from low 6’s to near 7. i was looking for a better system and a diabetic trainer put me onto a dexcom g6 and showed me a new tandem which I am getting the first of the year. My Medtronic’s warranty is up then. I started looking for Tandem pump info and came across your KZfaq channel and it is best info I have ever seen on diabetes. All of your info is right on and i relate with everything you cover. great info for newbies. If you ever want to talk let me know, I dont get much of a chance to communicate with T1D. Thanks again for your info. Mac Mackenzie

Oh Mac!!! Thank you so so much for all your kind comments!!! And 70 years....WOW...YOU'RE the expert! You could probably give all of us so so so many valuable pieces of advice and guidance!!! I'm very excited for you to start your Tslim/Dexcom G6 combination - it's the finest on the market at present I think! I'm sorry about the FB message - I'm not very active on FB so here is the best place to communicate, I hope that works alright for you! Please please please accept my sincere gratitude for your amazingly kind words and know how much they mean to me given your vast experience with Type 1 Diabetes - absolutely incredible!!!!!! Wishing you the happiest and healthiest New Year ahead!!! 🌟

@@ShesDiabetic Mac mackenzie again I have a hard time not watching some of your videos really because you do such a great job getting real info out that that is the real T1D’S life. When I was first diagnosed in 1951 there was only 1 million known and 1 million unknown now I think there is 25-30 million known, really is an epidemic I only knew one other diabetic all the way thru collage and lived in a very rural area. Know body wanted to talk about diabetes so you were on your own. I grew up doing everything a could and accepting any dare to feel like I belonged. I could write a pretty good book/story on my life growing … if had the ability to write. I have been an engineering person all my life so English not my strong suit. I am getting off track here because my reply today is about my wife and I watching your taking questions video with your fiancé.We really had a laugh😄👍 and thoroughly enjoyed it . We will be married for 60 years in July and she has been one reason I did so well with really minimum complications. It made me think about the years we have been together and how diabetes has effected our life together, two stories that came to me right away we’re these. I never liked the feeling of high sugar levels and when I knew it was very high I used to go run 2-3 miles or so and she would keep pace with me with our car one night I was running for awhile and noticed the car was right on my heels (very close*) came close to running me over. She was mesmerized ?This was at night and on a back road. One night I my sugar was running low and she told me so, I told her I was fine and locked myself in the bathroom because I was fine. She finally talked me into opening the door. So if people think low sugar does nor effect you mental state=, that is a good example. There is 70 years of stories somewhere in my mind.😄 Anyway trying to tell you how great your videos and don’t stop, they are helping a lot of people and giving a lot of insight into T1D. Keep up the videos! Mac

You're emphasis on embracing and participating in special gatherings, including meals and goodies, reminds me of a principle I live by as a type 1 diabetic: "I choose to own diabetes; I don't allow diabetes to own me." Your advice, I believe, is spot-on and "fits" with how those of us who are diabetic actually experience the holidays and its unique challenges. Another excellent (and timely) video, Andrea. :)

Great video! I'm a strong supporter of the Move! Yo Bod mantra - whether it's throwing the football around or throwing down to my favorite holiday playlist, you gotta do something to get the blood flowing and counteract the carb-ladden stuffing, cornbread, cranberry sauce, sweet potato mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, pecan pie...

Wonderful advice as always! I tend to eat quite a bit more at family gatherings like Thanksgiving. I have learned not to take to much insulin at meal time, as it seems it takes longer to digest when I overeat. I am looking forward to using the delayed bolus feature on my new Tslim pump. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thank you Andrea for a positive and very informative video. And you are right in enjoying all the foods you love. And let it be known that it can be difficult to be gracious to the "good and thoughtful Aunt" that made that special "sugar free apple pie" just for you so you wouldn't feel left out, when the pie should have been left out in the car! But it is the thought that counts right. Enjoy. Monitor your CGM. Easy on the correction boluses'. And get back on the wagon again the next day.

What you say about (not) skipping breakfast is interesting. Skipping breakfast itself is not a big deal for me, but if I don't eat all day for some reason, and then eat something very carb loaded, it can happen that the BG spikes substantially. Seems to be related to the ketone levels. I mean, if you are in a fasted state, your fasting ketones are higher, which is totally normal (no DKA). But higher fasting ketones seem to sometimes induce a temporary resistance. That's one reason why I generally eat low-ish to moderate carb amounts, but don't do a keto diet. (Another reason is that I love dark chocolate too much to do keto 😋

I see in my numbers always big difference between a meal at my parents and my family in law. My mother is a great coock and try always to make something delicious with a lot of small meals over a long time and low carb for everyone. I must there always look I count not to much carbs. When we go to my family in law, i got mostly not the right info, I have difficulties to count enough carbs and even when I count crazy numbers the numbers go extreme high. I would be not surprice that they add sugar to make it difficult for me. There I need always a promenade to get the numbers back right. I take there then also a low carb desert of my mother with me, but the meal before and soup result always in crazy numbers. The breakfast issue I have not. In the week I sleep to less because I work for associations in many cases to very late in the night. So in the weekend I sleep very long and then when their is less then 2 hours left before lunch I skip most off weekend breakfasts. And I have then quit good numbers, possible also because I go in most cases cycling after lunch then. Again just showing that diabetes can be different for each other patient.
