I am so sorry for your loss Andrea. This is one reason that I do not consume alcohol. I like to be in control of my actions, so that one day I will not make a decision that will destroy the lives of others. Thank you for sharing and I hope that this help raise the awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Hi Andrea, first of all, sorry for your loss. I don’t know if I mentioned it in a previous message. My parents and I nearly could have the possibility of dying in a home fire, ironically, it was in the first wave of the pandemic and luckily my parents and I were fine and this situation is now gone in the sunset. Having faced the possibility of the inevitable. I now have the mantra, “I have faced worse.” Also to try and enjoy the best you can and try and saviour each moment in the here and now. I try not go into the cheesiness into this topic, but it’s true, just live and feel the best way you can, in the kelly clarkson, “What doesn’t kill ya, makes ya stronger.” right?

Just started using the omnipod. This video is only telling you ONE thing. Get your basal rate correct to start with! If you need to 'correct' throughout the day your basal rate is not set properly or your carb entries are not set correctly. So far my BG regulation is MUCH better.

Andrea, I'm so sorry for your loss, and I can't help thinking about the person the son married either; their life as a married couple ended pretty much as soon as it began, all because another driver on the road selfishly chose to get behind the wheel while drunk. But, I think this video will influence people to stop driving under the influence, because sometimes, yes, people can drive after drinking more than they should; with blood alcohol levels over the legal limit, and nothing happens, but other times, it can cost people their lives.

That is so sad. Im sorry for your loss, Andrea. Its so painful to see how many people decide to go driving while drunk. Thank you for doing this fundraiser. There are so many people who need to know the truth.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I agree - the pain of these choices is just unbearable, becuase they're exactly that - choices. So many people don't have a choice when it comes to things that they decide to do in and with their life. Drunk driving should technically, in a perfect, ideal world never ever ever have to happen. It's so senseless and confusing to me. Thank you for listening and commenting in support. It really means so much to me, truly 💙

How did you manage blood sugars on a cruise?
@ShesDiabetic9 сағат бұрын
Actually - it wasn't too bad! My one big hack...I took the stairs everywhere!!!! Hahaha! But actually - the portions on the cruise weren't too large at all - very reasonable - and I just tried to eat on the lower carb side of things. They even had no sugar added desserts that I was lucky to partake in! Everything in moderation worked in my favor - except the stairs - I did those in excess, not moderation lol!

Those tubes for the glucose tabs should be clear or a translucent white for the purpose of eyeballing the full tubes

This is a great idea! My guess is they don't want to do it because glucose tablets are very powdery and not at all aesthetically pleasing to look at so though it would make practical sense, aesthetically it would be very ick looking, do you know what I mean?

You don’t have to worry about me being a driver; I’m obviously old enough at age 34 but for disability reasons I don’t drive. I’m looking forward to the “Correction Factor, how to manually dose Insulin corrections for Diabetes; The Basics” video. [You don’t have to come up with a title 😉] There may be new people out there new to the T1D world who have just entered it or people like me who know about T1D and just want to be prepared for the unpredictable. I know to a lot of people out there that there is a myth that T1D only gets diagnosed around the ages 5-17 but I know it could rear its diagnosisable head at any age. So far I know of two KZfaqrs who were diagnosed around age 30.

The pump is the best way to go. I does a lot of thinking for me. The thing is I don't want another gimmick, I WANT A CURE. C'MON you greedy pharma assholes. And, the new Medtronic gear is a pain in the ass to install every seven days. Bullshitting us that 'no more finger sticks' is a great benefit does not over ride the fact that jabbing that sensor in FUCKIN' HURTS. And, the blood.......

Yes to all of this. Some comments on videos from this one channel I follow, though well-intentioned and containing sentiments like hope she’s better soon, make me shake my head. The measures parents of diabetic children take like the dexcom or omnipod changes are what is keeping their children alive and indeed, there is no break.

In the middle of getting a diagnosis and it's been so frustrating because no one in my family believes that this is actually happening and that something is actually wrong with me. I'm 30, so I'm in my own care, and it's good to know from reading and watching these stories that things will get easier and better with time.

When I first used this app back when I first started carb counting (2014), it was completely free. Now they're charging £36/pa, which is a big jump. It also makes no sense what's free and what's part of the paid for section. I looked up an apple. It told me that an 85g apple is 9g carbs, a 130g apple is 13g carbs, but to find out what 170g apple is, I have to pay £36/pa. But even I can work out, it would be 17g. I'll continue to use the free part, and maybe it'll come down in price enough that I can afford it, or it reverts to being free again.

I hear you 10000%! I always look for pj bottoms with a good elastic waistband that I could clip it onto (I attached a stick on clip directly to my pump - you can get them on Amazon and see what I'm talking about in previous videos before I switched to the Omnipod 5 about a year ago). And I would always face the pump screen inwards. A lot of people also just leave it loose and have it "follow them around" but that never worked for me personally. I hope this helps! Take a look at my video about hiding my insulin pump too - in case any of those ideas would be helpful!! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y8mjd9mWvde2j5c.html

Thank you so much for this video, Andrea! I am about four years into this diagnosis and continue to learn so much every day. This video was huge for helping me navigate the Omnipod 5, since it never seemed that the algorithm was strong enough for me. I am a healthcare provider myself and realize our providers are doing their best to keep us safe and healthy, but these hacks have really helped give me better control! Keep doing what you’re doing, I appreciate you!

It is interesting to see that you need to go through such "tricks" for the system to be more aggressive. On my channel I reviewed this year's Omnipod study (made by people of the company), and it seems that there lowest possible target average glucose is 110 (or 6.1 mmol). Also, and interestingly, half of adults in that studies did not manage to get 70% or more time in range. I wonder in your case if some other automatic systems like Ypsopump would give you more flexibility? Have you thought of switching to that rather than having to do things like "pump and dump" as you describe?
@diabetesatuniversity7 күн бұрын
Interesting comparison. I had made a video about Fiasp actually, but it is of course worth trying both kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nr-UZbOdlcquZJc.html I think it is good for people to try different insulins so that they can find the best one. I sometimes wonder why doctors choose Fiasp or Lyumjev for their patients, given that both insulins, at least on paper, are very similar in action profile.

Okay so in the UK our Healthcare costs come out of general taxation and in effect the more wealthy you are, the more tax you pay, if those wealthy people didn’t want to do that they would move elsewhere. The UK system ensures treatment is available to all at the point of need, because we’e a caring society. What would USA Americans do if their Healthcare model was applied to Firefighting, or Defence or Homeland Security?
@craignickum65518 күн бұрын
Sorry but you are giving a very distorted and misinformed view of US healthcare vs UK. In the UK you have glaucoma or cataracts.....wait 18 months for treatment. Need a new joint....wait a year or never. You do not have to have your credit card out to get care in US. Walk into any ER and you will be seen no questions. I have Medicare Advantage. I pay ZERO$ monthly. I pay $ZERO to see my regular doctor. I pay $35 to see a specialist. My wife had 3 surgeries in the span of a year. We paid out of pocket $1750. US best care in the world. My wife has to see MULTIPLE specialists for several problems. The most we waited to get in was 45 days. If a problem further developed before that appointment we would be seen immediately by our primary or the ER.

My daughter uses the Omnipod Dash at the moment. We find that on the third day the adsorption seems to be a lot worse meaning she tends to go high and a lot more insulin in used. I assume this would cause an issue with the Omnipod 5 algorithm?
@ShesDiabetic5 күн бұрын
I must say I find the 3rd day to be rather hit or miss myself too! It does cause an issue at times, but to get around it I've asked my Endo to prescribe a change of pod every two days so I have enough pods to do that if I need and that helps circumvent the problem. I sometimes have a pod that's just good and I let it go the full 3, but If I sense absorption is dropping off I change it right away. I hope this helps!!
@amberkinder94408 күн бұрын
I’ve been on the Omnipod 5 since August, my doctor said I know my body and my sugars better than doctors he said that if I need to adjust anything go to the manual mode and edit your basal rate and carb changes if needed and so far it’s helped.
