That shot taken down Marshall Road in 1969 was my every day walk home from primary school in Grade 1, starting that year. Very much appreciated.

I grew up in this area,in childhood and teen years,the road where the fence is on logan road,that separates the higher part of the road,to the lower part of the road along glindemann Park,is still there,it was only changed to steel a few years back.the park will never be built on.i walked to seville road state school in the 80s,and high school cav road in the 90s.moved away now as mum moved to aged care.good to see how different areas changed over the years.

Lived in Holland Park West late 1960s through mid 1970s in Swain St. A great area and loved it. But do I hanker for the good old days? No Way.

I think sometimes older folk mistake the naivities of youth with a simpler time. I imagine if you spoke to someone from then, who is the age you are now, they would feel much as you do about their youth...

I used to argue against your comment. But when I ask anyone whether they would prefer a world without internet or at least without the iphone, most actually say yes, irrespective of age. There's my mother, in the country, never had internet, nor mobile even, just a simple landline that the telcos are constantly trying to pressure her into getting rid of, yet it would be impossible to teach her how to text. She has the most active social life ever. In fact she sometimes wants to stay at home to have a break. She's 83.

I lived on Magnetic Island in the 1970s, where life was probably similar to those in the city 10-20 years earlier. They were safer times, where you could leave your house unlocked. Identity theft was unheard of, and I think there was more respect for others then than now. Everybody knew everybody anyway. The biggest advantages now compared to then is the cost of travel, both domestic and international. I'd be interested to know if people think it's easier to land that dream job (police officer, train driver, pilot, teacher) now compared to decades ago.

I recall as a youngster that Holland Park was the site of a large wartime Army camp, there were rows of huts, possibly American.

I lived there for 10 years (1996 - 2007) and paid my rent to that very real estate agent with giant clocktower. It nearly died after Jamaicanmecrazy left. Good to see it's all a buzz again and the thai restaurant pushed through all those years. Thank heavens that TAB left. They always bring stagnation everywhere they go.

I lived in Seville Rd in the 1960s. It was a step-up for us!! as it already had sewerage. Seville Rd and surrounds had inherited the sewerage system of the USA Military Hospital on that site. Meanwhile the rest of Brisbane was still undergoing a sewerage development program and were still using outhouses (and visits from the Dunny Man) or using the septic systems (which required being drained/pumped out every few months if the bacteria did not do their work).

I well remember my grandparents (who raised me in Kuring-gai Avenue) saying that there'd be workers in the suburb soon to install sewers and how they could now build a patio over the old sump. My ex-American grandad said I was lucky to have just missed out on having a thunderbox and handsful of sawdust.

I lived most of my teenage years on Sapphire St. My mum lived there for 20 years. Lovely area. I have great memories of traipsing through the bushland between Amethyst St and the White's Hill reserve.

I started at Holland Park School in 1949. Only 100 metres from home in Geelong Avenue.

I now live in Holland Park. I hope to remain here. Its a great place. Mix of city and bush. But I think like many areas the city will swollow it un time. Someone tried to tell me it is a bad area. I had a laugh. Ive lived in Blacktown, Doonside, Mt Druitt and Midland. Holland Park is a safe area.

1920s Brisbane basically ended at the intersection of Birdwood and Logan Roads. Pretty much all bushland after that.

Houses of bricks and mortar were probably better suited to cooler climates then. Now timber houses are rare here as insulation has improved.
