3:00 Fords of this vintage ran the power to the coil through a resistor wire so as not to overheat the coil. A bypass runs from the starter solenoid to the coil to give it 12V while starting so it starts more easily. Just find another 12V source that's powered when the ignition is on, or find the pink wire to bypass it. That's what people do when converting the points to Pertronix (or replacing it with a GM-style HEI).

Worked at a garage in the 80's. Only used gloves on tires with cords really poking out, only used glasses when we used the grinder. Got Brakleen in the eyes once - awful. Only thing that still remains are the scars from hot manifolds and gouges in my shin bones from slipping on the floor while trying to clear the lift chocks with my feet on a wet floor (BANG! takes a rocker panel on the shin while falling backward). Good times. Honestly we were stupid. Glad to see that people aren't doing things like this today, but cars still take their toll when you least expect it.

A few years ago, I had an unfortunate chili capsaicin in the eye incident. I put my face under the shower head for no noticeable improvement and then remembered that drinking water doesn't relieve that same burning in the mouth, but milk does! I don't drink milk, but I did have plain yogurt, so I slapped cold yogurt on my eyeballs and felt immediately soothed. Not 100% better, mind you, but the relief was cool and the discomfort much more tolerable right away. I got back under the shower and rinsed the yogurt away and was all good an hour or so later. Since then, plain yogurt is my go-to first stage eyewash (followed by water rinse) for terrible burning stuff in the eyes, which is luckily infrequent.

Feel your pain guys, I did a weber carby conversion using a kit that was supposed to be exactly for my vehicle, but ended up having to do a lot of the same sort of mods/adjustments/fettling to get it to fit as well as making all my own linkages as the linkages supplied in the kit didn't fit and were lousy quality anyway. Great episode and would love to see more RCR with you all on the tools.

1968 Fords had horizontal headlights, 1967 Fords, which had the same basic body as the 1968s had the headlights stacked vertically. I can easily tell a 1963 Ford from any other year if only because I've learned long ago what to look for even on the detrimmed "fleet" models.

Fitech (and others) make a great fuel surge tank that uses the stock fuel pump to fill a small tank with a submerged EFI fuel pump. It's a better setup than a pump out of the tank, and nearly as good as an in-tank setup. Those in-link fuel pumps are loud and prone to failure. I don't use them anymore on EFI conversions. if you don't have a fuel evap system which lots of old cars didn't, you may need to drill the smallest of holes in your fuel cap to allow for fuel expansion/contraction. Without it your fuel tank builds pressure or vaccuum from the EFI fuel pump return that the weaker cabs didn't need to worry about. you end up with fuel pressure issues until you fix it. After a while go back to your fuel line connectios and re-tighten them down. I've found they can work loose over time.

I think it would have been cool to use a spreadbore and just tune it to run very economically, relatively lean on the front two, nice stiff air door and secondary springs so you have to be in the absolute most necessary time before it opens and just "Whoooop" because there's nothing like Qjet whoop. Qjet whoop alone is a good enough reason to use one. Shame they don't have a spreadbore efi...even if I wouldn't get the best performance or economy...I really want to use a Qjet or Thermoquad or an aftermarket equal on a build, even an LS. To me it's like playing classic rock or something, it's absolutely intoxicating to hear a good engine, well tuned, packing a spreadbore. 🤤❤️😬😋
