I have a theory I believe that the father of Yui was no one and she is the result of parthenogenesis, because some insects are capable of do that. Also, depending of the kind of parthenogenesis, the offspring can be considered as a clone, that explains why she was so similar to her own mother.

I believe the 'she' Ayano referred to is Princess Mayu. There's a book you can find that tells the full story of those story scrolls in the shack (if you go to Gab Smolder's playthrough she reads it at 1:08:40). It tells the story of two sisters from a wealthy family. The younger sister is jealous of her older sister Mayu because she's in love with the man Mayu is betrothed to. The sister repeatedly lures Mayu out into remote and dangerous places but Mayu always somehow finds her way home again unharmed. Frustrated, the sister digs a secret grave and intends to just straight up murder Mayu only to discover her sister isn't human anymore and has encased herself in a cocoon that is covered in silk worms, the same worms that were given to the Miyama family so they could produce imperial quality silk. Unintentionally, Kinu recreated the circumstances that made Mayu a youkai when she left her sister in the mountains and she got lost. I think this drew Mayu to Ayano. Mayu "rescued" Ayano by changing her into a silk worm youkai, too. That's why Kyubei and Saichi believed if they could find that original cocoon Mayu had spun that it could be used to undo the curse on Ayano and make her human again. But Kinu had switched her obsessive love from Saichi to Ayano and didn't WANT her to be cured since she was afraid Ayano would leave her if she was human and beautiful again. As always, Kinu is the worst and now either the immortal Ayano sheds the last scraps of humanity she had and fully becomes a youkai or Minato let's go of his humanity in order to keep Ayano holding onto hers.

I like how Kinu's schedule gives a hint that she was hiding something as she put down Dinner and Bathtime twice.

The vampire found and comforted Ayano, then spun a cocoon around them to possess and transform her. Kinu even mentions in her last note that she has no idea who the "she" Ayano is referring to is.

Silkworm knowledge 101!! The "tatoo" like patterns on Ayano's back are actually larval markings seen on real silkworms! I still remember our teacher tasked us to raise those little crawling sticks back when we were in elementary school... which adds some extra creepiness to this game!

It's a shame that Minato has to go off the deep end and isolate himself like that in the "Spare Ayano" ending. Like, surely the lesson he should have taken here was that Kinu got it wrong and he should reach out to others for help taking care of her.

I mean, the only part that remains a mystery to me is the actual origin of the monster. I mean, as far as i know, the grandmother abandons her sister in the mountains and then she just shows up again at the house again a month or two later changed. What happened while she was wandering the mountains? Was she possessed by something? We know that it is the same person, as she remembers her sister, so what in the hell happened to her? What is it exactly that she was transformed into? How in the heck did she become pregnant?!?! Who is the father??? IS there a father?!? I mean, I would think that there would have to be a human father, considering what happened to her. but IDK. All questions I would really like the answer to.

I think the "Cure found in a cocoon" is a reference to one of the alternate endings you can get in the shop after finishing the game.

From the document, Ayano is not the first one that morph into a monster aka princess possession and there must be so many cases enough for researching to find the curing? method. So, I think the cocoon princess gene is hidden in this family bloodline. Just waiting for the jackpot person like Ayano, Yui or Minato who awaken the gene. My theory is when the awaken one die and left a corpse alone, he or she will be cocooned and come back to life while starting to morph into the monster. I believe that if Yui corpse was left alone, she also will come back like Ayano in less than a year. BTW, There are 3 more endings of this game -- UFO, chicken and cocoon princess that hinted in the document. I hope I will see episode 2 of this video soon :D

maybe the silkworm demon impregnated Ayano, the baby being the demon and using Ayano as a cocoon and potentially would have burst from Ayano once it was large enough killing her in the process. Maybe Ayano wasn't supposed to survive beyond her usefulness much like the silkworms being boiled while in their cocoons after being allowed to feed and grow till they were no longer needed for the next process.

There is another secret ending in the game called the UFO ending . Aliens also make sense as a potential explanation as: 1) in the beginning of the game in the house you can switch on the TV and watch a weather report then switch over the TV channel to a report/documentary on supernatural things/aliens/UFOs. 2) It would explain what happened to Ayano - rather than being "possessed" she was impregnated by an alien and transformed in the process, or replaced with an alien in the likeness of herself. 3) Near the end of the game, a legend is presented in which an old man finds a "boat in the mountains" in which a young girl/princess is found sick. Why would there be a BOAT in the MOUNTAINS?!! Maybe an alien spaceship? Perhaps Ayano was impregnated by an alien or was replaced by a likeness that was in fact an alien and so Minato is part Alien? ..... just a thought : )

i think portraying kinu as purely evil and saichi as purely good isn't true. saichi, as good of a dad as he was to yui, seems fixated on her similarities to ayano in a weird way, and i think his love for ayano also seems verybeauty/nostalgia motivated. kinu was shitty, but her shittiness is incidental to the plot. she didn't cause ayano('s lineage) to become a monster, her subhuman treatment of transformed ayano seems to be out of necessity rather than not thinking of her as human, and ngl i think her behavior is very petty but a very normal human pettiness. also like we gotta remember, kinu and ayano would've been at most teenagers when all that drama happened, and teenagers aren't the best at emotions and social relationships. i don't even blame her for hating saichi because he spent so many years claiming to love ayano... then when she becomes a monster and gives birth to a human shaped child he decides to take it and completely abandon the sisters so he can play house. just because saichi was nice doesn't mean he was kind. i also think even ayano wasn't great, but she was a kid(?) when she got possessed, and she gets the benefit (i mean in terms of character analysis) of being the victim of the story. and i think the fact that they weren't just "the good grandpa" and "the bad grandma" makes the story more interesting.

The asexual reproduction theory makes sense as a byproduct of the transformation/ possession. Yui being essentially a clone of Ayano, and a way for the vampire silkworm creature to reproduce without a 'mate' (or in a way the host is their mate). In a way the transformed Ayano also served as a cocoon for yui. Which just adds another layer to the title. But why didn't Yui transform the way Ayano did? She was probably older than Ayano and never seemed to experience any symptoms other than craving blood. Would she have had to die to become like that? Another theory i have- as gross as it is- is that Grandpa fathered Yui with Ayano during the period before she fully transformed, after she came home. Grandpa is always weirdly fixated on her beauty. But never on her as a person. And he seems to immediately to take to Yui as her parent. I think Ayano's father could also be Yui's potential father. Ayano seems to be his favorite out of the two sisters and in horror stories you can't rule this stuff out.

I didn't expect much from just another small Japanese horror game, but this is definitely one of the better ones story-wise. Pretty much most questions were answered and the ending was pretty satisfying. The entire time, I was imagining everything in Fatal Frame style. [Spoilers for the video] So to sum it up? (For my own understanding and anyone to who's probably confused.) A love tragic triangle between a cursed beauty (Ayano), a psycho/sociopath little sister (Kinu) and a love struck man (Saichi) Ayano loves Kinu but doesn't love Saichi. Kinu loves Saichi but loves Ayano more. Saichi loves Ayano and just likes Kino. Ayano (somehow) gave birth to Yui (and Yui to Minato/MC), making 3 of them demons. Yui doesn't have a father(?) so she's a full demon but Minator's a half demon since Yui married a human. Saichi and Kinu are married but Saichi only did it for Ayano. Kinu loved Saichi but started to hate him when he left her to raise up Yui. Ayano despite being a demon, still loves Kinu but both of them are losing memory of each other and don't want to live not remembering. Kinu tries to kill Ayano via poison but failed, Kinu dies of hanging. Ayano (out of love) made sure Kinu was discovered. Saichi, the girl's father, assuming the doctor too, were fed to Ayano but Kinu. Kinu also killed Yui indirectly by showing her the truth, making Yui off herself. MC has the choice to mercy kill (technical good ending) or spare Ayano (bad ending where cycle repeats).

Hello there! finished playing the demo but motion sickness kicked in even after adjusting settings. So, cannot play the full game 😔First-person horror games always mess with my head. Yet, my curiosity about the game's story led me to your video. I rewound, toggled captions on and off, ensuring I caught every detail. It's a bit extra, I admit, but it made the narrative more immersive for me. Regarding the story, Ayano's transformation into a monster is quite the puzzle. Is it really linked to the Princess Possession disease? I really thought her sister Kinu might be involved. Also, with Yui, I initially thought she was the result of Ayano and Saichi, but thankfully, the story didn't clarify that because I couldn't imagine how that scenario would play out. Second ending left me torn but great vid! I think the most interesting character in the story would be Ayano. She's the primary reason I'm eager to play the game, especially after seeing her on the cover art.

This game was a masterpiece for me, very poetic, grim, emotional and deep. I love that the game mix tales (the Mayu ones + demons ? Curse ?) and some hints to point to a « materialistic » explanation (aliens ? Parasite insects ? Illness ?) Tales or mythology are often based on inflated reality.

I think Yui is just Ayano reborn. It is said that the cocoon will make the monster a woman again and therefore I thought she might have given birth to herself but as a woman just like she once was. But then again I also believed in the end that she was actually killed and turned into a cocoon and gave "birth" to other silk worms

I'm surprised you didn't realize that there doesn't need to be a biological father for a supernatural birth. The daughter was essentially Ayano in some respect, part of her freed or maybe meant to tie she and Kinu together. That's just speculation, but I wonder what the gestation period is for silworks in giving birth or relating to such and that may say if some sort of reincarnation separate from Ayano or birth enacted for sentimental reasons. Ayano can simply come back on her own, but remains in the same deformed state (except in the secret ending, but just a beautiful monster).
