Love old time radio, and this is one of my favorite series. Wish it had gone for a few more years. Thanks for bringing it back! 👍

This the finest Western radio production in radio drama history. James Stewart brings life to the role in a unique way, and it’s too bad it was limited to one season.

It was "limited" because NBC could never find a regular sponsor. Liggett & Myers [Chesterfield] wanted to sponsor the series- but Jimmy refused, as he didn't want to be associated with a cigarette advertiser {even though he previously appeared in a 1947 Chesterfield magazine ad}. According to producer/director Jack Johnstone, they asked him *three* times......and he declined every time. Finally, they sponsored "GUNSMOKE" on CBS in July 1954- and with no other advertisers willing to "buy" the program, "THE SIX SHOOTER" ended after one season. It was strictly a matter of economics; without a sponsor, it became too expensive for NBC to sustain the show.

The "pilot" for Jimmy's NBC radio series, which began in September 1953 and lasted one season. The script was restaged as the "Ben Scofield" episode [November 1, 1953]- with one cast change {James McCallion had Bert Holland's part in the second version}.
