for those who actually wonder why multiplication goes first (and exponent before that) apparently it just convention, there is actually no reason other than "we agree that things works this way"

Differently from basic operations, multiplying and dividing can get completely different results from changing the order of the numbers. So the first order, inside one equation, is to reduce such operations in simpler addition and subtraction problems. Similarly, advanced calculations will make up new rules where you need to reduce everything to simpler equations, because the results would be completely different with a different order. Remember that one calculation is only considered valid, or real, if you can reverse the whole process while mirroring the initial calculations, something that would never happen without these rules
