I watched a lot of Holst's concerts on youtube. Those conducted by Mr. Litton are the best. He really understood this music: the tempo, power and tenderness of some moments are amazing. My virtual standing ovations to the conductor, orchestra and the video production team.

I absolutely love how he just stares down the low brass section while pointing his fist at them towards the end of "Mars." There is no question what the conductor wants from them. This is an amazing performance of one of my all time favorite symphonies.

Recall my first audio cassette was Holst: The Planets plus the Star Wars theme. Now I’ve many copies of the Holst classic and it’s always uplifting to listen to. With this let’s praise all the hard working health workers who are saving lives, making those ill more comfortable on their road to recovery whilst working themselves to the bone. World wide they are the hero’s of 2020

An amazing performance by the SSO. The tempo of each movements are perfect. So much sensitivity to Holst's score in my humble opinion. From the forceful opening till the very end of the suite there is a unique dialogue between the SSO and the conductor. Bravo!

I often wonder if Holst got his inpiration for "Uranus the magician" from Dukas' "Sorcerers Aprentice". Hearing both I can not help but see those mencing mops and Mickey trying in vain to stop them. Anyway, this was a great perfomance of "the Planets". Kudos to all invlvoved in this stunning production.

Just wish the Drums were clearer at 40:40 like this version: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9mZlpWLl8uWqKc.html Ends up sounding more washed/muffled out than something bombastic, powerful, aggressive, and almost Military like. I just wish this part was more Aggressive and sharper for this recording. Sound Quality for this video is very good, but every planets recording I always check Uranus since a lot of recordings get it wrong. Will listen to the full recording, since I only checked out this and Mars so far.

The more I listen to Mars the more I think the tenor tuba part should really be played on a baritone rather than a euphonium (the narrower bore agrees better with high parts; it's certainly nimbler).

In the final movement, Holst calls for an off-stage women's chorus to sing a wordless line. So the ladies of our Chorus were singing, unseen, from backstage. This creates a faraway sound for "Neptune, The Mystic".
