The upside to the headlight control is that it resets to auto after every start. The amount of dummies driving around in the dark with only their running lights and no tail lights is out of control. Apparently people these days can't be trusted to turn their lights on....

I don't know why they bother having DRLs, safety at the front but not at the back. Would be simpler and safer to just have headlights on all the time. Then you don't need a second set of lights or anything to (poorly) decide whether to turn the main lights on or not.

Finally an Auto Manufacturer decided to take away the easy controls of the headlights! Way too many people driving around on the roads these days with no headlights on at night because they are too stupid to figure out how to turn them on, or accidentally turn them off and don't realize it. Auto headlights are an awesome safety feature and it should have been standard on All new vehicles 20 years ago. So many people still turn their headlights off, then forget they are off and get out on the road with them still off. Or they think they are on when only their DRLs are on. Even when someone flashes their lights at these people to let them know their lights aren't on they are often either oblivious or simply don't care. This is a wise choice by Chevrolet to do this.

The lack of a 6’ bed option is an issue definitely going to hurt sales. One of the reasons I bought my canyon was the crew cab long bed. Still a small truck but very useful in that configuration. I know a ft of bed space doesn’t sound like much but in my experience 6ft is about as short as you can go and still be useful. That number just a works. Hopefully the decide to offer a longer bed option even if it’s an extended cab to keep the wheel base the same.

Moving the headlight controls into the screen and having them default to “auto” actually makes sense for two reasons: 1. There is rarely a need to manually turn the headlights on or off in a vehicle with automatic headlights. Manufacturing a physical switch that is minimally used is a bit of a cost waste. 2. The amount of people I see driving in pitch dark with either only daytime running lights, or no lights at all, has proven to me that Americans no longer have the intelligence to be trusted to manually operate their headlights. The fact that this truck defaults to “auto” is a good thing for all of us.

"...work truck..." "...5'2" bed..." does not compute. I'm sure that there are jobs where that bed is sufficient. But the problem is that for a lot of jobs it's very much insufficient. Even a bed as short as 6' can be awkward for someone actually working with a truck. Lumber and other building materials often come in at 8'+, and while perhaps there are ways to lower the tailgate and brace-up above the wheel wells for plywood material, it's becomes increasingly awkward the shorter the bed is. Additionally it's a problem for things like ladders. I can put a 7' stepladder at an angle into a pickup with a 6' bed, and this ladder is useful for most interior ceilings up to closer to 12'. When I bought the Frontier in 2017 I did consider the Canyon/Colorado of the era, with a similar crew cab with 6' bed. But the bed sidewalls on the GMs were higher and the floor of the bed higher. This makes using the bed harder.

This truck is promising but GM dropped the ball in several areas. Not offering a lower cost extended cab or a longer bed is mistake number 1. Second is the total lack of interior color choices on the lower trim WT and LT versions. 3rd why can't the WT buyer get some better optional alloy wheels like you could on the previous model Colorado? 4th as mentioned making the headlights adjustable only through the touch screen is an obvious cost cutter as is the lack of under hood silencer pad as shown on this truck. 5th is the price. Option up even the most basic 4X4 WT with a few things and your already pushing 40K. Work up to the LT and your into 43-45K which is what an LT Silverado was a few short years ago. Vehicles are getting way to expensive and quite unaffordable for the masses!

I think a better deal is the Colorado Trail Boss. The 4WD WT is around $34k, the trail boss $38.5 k. The additional $4.5 K buys you the more powerful 310 hp/391 lb.ft engine, two speed transfer case, locking diff, off road suspension with 2” lift, bigger more capable 32” all terrain tires on 18” alloy rims and a fancier interior and exterior.

Great video!! The only thing, that annoys me, is the wheel cap... The company I work for, owns 2 Silverado 1500 WT... One of them has the steel wheels with the gray cap to cover the wheel bolts... At first when new it wasn't a problem. But by time, de cap goes loose and flys away when driving mostly on highways or rough terrain... Those Wheel caps, they just won't hold... Overall, Chevy is great to me...

To not have a 6ft bed option on the work truck model is a swing and a miss. It's a nice looking truck but the 5ft bed automatically eliminates it for my needs. I know a 5ft bed is plenty for most people as a daily driver but a worker needs all the room they can get in the bed

These mid-sizes are taking the place of 1/2 ton trucks for people that actually use them for work. They even have similar stats to some 1/2 tons from the 2000s. Obviously if you need to haul heavy or tow, you'll still get a 3/4 or 1 ton, but 1/2 tons have turned into aspirational luxury products at this point. $50k-$60k is just too much for a vehicle that is going to hit 100k miles in only a few years, get beat on daily, and depreciate quickly from all the wear and tear.

I like that GM uses the same size infotainment screen. They are smart in that its not going to take a jab at those wanting a more affordable truck and will likely cost GM less since they will have fewer parts to control on the supply chain. Also just having one size bed will likely make the assembly line move faster. Because with only the one plant at Wentzville their biggest challenge will be supply. They could probably sell 200K of these/year if they had the capacity. That has been the biggest downfall for midsizes. (outside of Toy that has two plants in mexico)
