As a tool it’s questionable. As a piece of art and history this thing is insane. Having the idea of bonding carbon fiber to steel is already nuts, doing it and selling it is a whole different ball of wax. I’m sure it cost a pretty penny but, especially now that Warren Osborne has left us for the big workbench in the sky, I’m sure this will be coveted in the future.

Hey. I have been a benchmade fan for years. I have about a dozen never used knives from them but none this rare. I ordered their new cutlery set and its on the way. Do you think its worth paying $3900 for their Damascus limited edition cutlery knives? Only 200 will be made. Will they be a good investment for appreciation to hand down many years later?

This “Contego” is certainly a rare knife, and it is certainly a very good looking knife, but not really that much better looking than many other Benchmade CF knives. Is there anything that makes it particularly desirable? Rarity does not automatically produce desirability. For example, there are many knives I might rather add to my collection than another CF Benchmade knife, no matter how good. On the other hand, if it was not too expensive, I might nevertheless collect one!

I would avoid this because its d2 and a benchmade. But I do like the type of carbonfiber that benchmade uses. I dont get their decisions sometimes.
