There should always be a place in the world for hand-made... anythings! Humans leave a trace of themselves in every thing they bring into existence which is why cast iron pans like this are so prized the instant they come off the shelf. Your great-granddaughter might be using it and the tradition handed down is just that much more value added, one more little addition of the human aspect.

Shame that Lodge doesn't put the effort in polishing the cooking surface like they did here ( at least they did do some) The Lodge products I've bought usually need a sanding to smooth the inside
@johnbaker6125

I've sworn by Lodge for years. That skillet they are cooking pork belly in at the end of the video isn't any smoother than any lodge product's cooking surface that I've seen. Currently I have a griddle, saucepan, a Dutch oven/skillet combo and 3 frying pans ir different size, ones with a drip lid and they are all the same surface from the casting process. Remember that Lodge is sand cast, not mold cast and then shot cleaned. I remember when they were a lot smaller, South Pittsburg is 40 miles from where I grew up. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hKuBg5xlvsi9dqM.html
