I had doubts to install yet another thing in HA and at first it did not work... skipping parts on youtube is not a good idea but pulled through and now have access to my cameras live from Homekit. Much faster and better than my synology system I was using!!! To bad my Apple Pay does not accept the connected card for a beer -.-

Hi Eddie, great video. Do you suggest to use a new Mac mini to run on home assistant, use it as backup repository, as a nvr and anythings else to make it THE home server, instead of buying a nvr + a nas+ a minipc or RasperryPi to run home assistant?

Hey Marco ... If that new Mac mini is kept ON 24/07 then yes you dont need additional hardware. You can run off that little beast 😇

The full HA backup contains every configuration file about your HA install, And If you’re using Home Assistant OS (or Supervised) it’ll also include all the add-on configuration as well.

Hello Oliver - From this addon - you cant expose any entities ... Would be better using the unifi protect to bring in the entities

No it doesnt expose them as devices without enabling them as Homekit Controllers

Thanks again for great video, I would like to ask if you think installing on a fresh Pi 4 the home assistant and than inside install the homebridge , Scrypted and plex addon’s or install the homebridge and the scrypted as a Docker container like I looked in your old videos ? What would be the best option?

I have contemplated using HOME ASSISTANT just to use ESP-HOME to create smart controllers. For example I would love to use a ESP32 or ESP8266 to control a window AC machine, some have IR controls but I would love to remove the front panel of the AC were the bottoms (On/Off, temp-up/temp-down, speed, Modes, sleep, temp-display,...) n connect those to a ESP n have it appear on my HomeKit app n I can fully control the AC. I have use hubs that have IR n IF transmitters but those do not show if the signal was received or not (window AC’s, have bad IR receivers) there is no feedback, so u can be sending IR signals like on an off, temp up/down but u don’t know if the AC received all of them. It is just like when u are using a remote control n u have to press the button multiple time until it works but u are there in person n can see when it works. Therefore using a ESP wife module connected to the AC display n bottom to make the AC an over the internet device n connect to home kit.

Hi Eddie, thank you for the video, but I have a question. I have Home Assistant integration with Homekit already. I have added my bridge and unify cameras to Homekit via Home Assistant. Do I need to remove that integration and follow the steps to add them via Scrypted? I really appreciate any help you can provide!

If you need the cameras to have the HKSV support - then yes you’ll need to re-add via scrypted and then expose it to Apple Home. Once that’s done - you will get the HKSV enabled for them

I’m running this on my Wyze V2s. However, I get snapshot failed errors on a few and some the RTSP stream fails at the camera. Any tips?

Stream failures do occur for a couple of reasons and one of them is network connectivity. Please try using VLC player to check if the feed do load, reserve the IP addresses in the router & also try pinging the devices to see if there are any packet loses.

Theres no official scrypted plugin. Do those cameras broadcast using the RTSP protocol ? If yes - thats the only way to adding them to Homekit

Eddie, I'm running Home Assistant on a new 24" iMac M1 with 16 GB RAM. (Home Assistant Supervised on a Debian Linux VM.) I have one Reolink POE videocam connected to a NVR, which I can monitor via the Reolink or Home Assistant control panels. I want to be able to see and control the camera using Apple Home Kit. Can I do this using Home Assistant => Scrypted => Home Kit or do I also need to install Home Bridge?

@@eddiedsuza One follow-up: If I have a mix of devices, some of which are certified Home Kit compatible and some of which are not (ignoring the Reolink cam for now), should I set up ALL of the devices with Home Assistant and then bridge them to Home Kit, or should I first set up the Home Kit-compatible devices with Home Kit and only do the non-compatible ones with HA?

Today I have the same goal to use just the HomeKit App on my Mobiles and use also HA in the background like you:-) I connect my unify devices and Hanwha Cameras with the nativ HA Unify protect Integration.Since you say the Scripted integration is faster I tried this just now, BUT there is no Plugin found in scrypted for unify ?? Appr.- for your help :-)

@@eddiedsuza great thx , got it . Seems to be really faster :-) then the HA Plugin . 2 years ago an also used Homebridge to connect Devices to HomeKit. Then changed to HA. Is there any reason why you ontop on HA also use Homebridge ?

@@milan-racing HA to connect with services like Solar panels, Electric consumption, Sky connect for thread support, and also off load automations from HomekIt to HA. Well there are some devices have better plugin support in HB - so using only 3 plugins - Bose Soundtouch, Philips Sync and the samsung TV 😇

Hello Faris .. nice meeting you .... Installing scrypted is purely a personal choice to have everything integrated in one location. You can maintain your docker setup and No there will be install errors since its the official version

@@eddiedsuza Yes, I have seen that, but you are using a plug-in called Camera-ui, but that's for HomeBridge. This is for Home Assistant.

@@eddiedsuza Hey Eddie, thought so, for some reason everything you did in that video still works great, thank you, the only thing I forgot how you did it was when you add a Ring camera to Scripted you get a double camera on HomeKit, because the other is is still open on Homebridge, I went into the Ring Homebridge setting and figure how I did the other 4 cameras, but this one will not hide? That's why I want to review what you did. Thank you Rich
