Home built lapidary flat lap for $90 including abrasive disks . Works great. Parts used 1/3 hp motor , cattle pan , sink drain , handrail flang, compressed gass cylinder, hanger iron , 1/2 to 1/2 arbor, 120v light switch, 1/2 of an old bulk water tank lid and a purchased 10in al master lap disk.

Sure wish I knew how to build motorized things like this. If you bought what you just built it would be very expensive. Incredible work and creativity. Beautiful and best part was you didn’t have to pay at least $500. For it.

Thank you for the kind words. I am currently testing a rock tumbler with an 80lbs capacity then the next build is a 12in slab saw. Stay tuned.🙂

I think it turned our pretty good. Surprised that adapter ran fairly true. I think im planning a smaller footprint, possibly more modular system. Speed control so it can do a host of different duties. I love the mower deck spindle idea, surely that would be plenty sturdy for this kinda stuff and you arent leaning on the motor bearings constantly. Thats one part i never grabbed from old mowers lol i got everything else tho.

Thanks for checking it out and I'm also surprised it runs as smooth as it does . I have made several changes since I first built it but am happy with the results for now. I have several outher projects ahead of it but plan on building one using the mower spindle in the future. Stay tuned. 😊

I wanted to make a wood disk polisher out of a tiller motor. Set at an angle with a holder. Set and forget. For larger pieces

Cattle pan seems like a great idea. Not knowing the standard sizings for them, what dimensions would you suggest? You said you might go with a taller one, how tall would that be? Great video.

Thanks for checking out my channel.😎 I believe the pan I have is around 16in diameter and 6in deep. Even with the finished top I made their is still some over spray. They make one that is 8in deep or so . You can find the at any farm and home store relatively cheap and made of rubber so they won't Crack. Hope you found this helpfull.

Can you show how you mounted the motor a little closer. Want to build this but unsure how to mount the motor to the bottom of table.

What disc are you using are they all hard disc

I have hard disks from 80 to 800 . One hard felt and one I made from an industrial carpet remnant.

@@40thplumengineering61 I am going to build my own flat lab and I was going to use 10 inch but the disc get up there in price so I think I'm going with an 8 inch much cheaper

@@keithcunningham7925 Cool . I gave 50ish for the aluminum master then 30 for the first hard disk on ebay. The rest of my hard disks came from Amazon as a set. I allmost went with an 8in my self but I had a bunch of large geodes I was wanting to slab and polish.

Sorry flat lap is a one off I only had enough parts to build it. The disk is a Kent brand purchased from Ebay $50.
