That sounded a bit rough, not as tight as they usually are. Probably just need more time working together to get the blend a bit better.

I know I am going to get a lot of slack for this comment but oh well. Bastien has a beautiful voice and he fits in well with the rest of the guys but he is not Austin. They need to give him a whole new set of songs that we can say this is a great one by him. Avoid Austin lead songs, easier said than done, then we can't compare like on Delta Dawn

@franblakely63617 күн бұрын
People come and go in groups, but in this case, my thoughts would be to not have him do any songs that Austin has/had the lead. He needs his own songs to shine. You cant redo Austin, and that is a little unfair for Adam as people will compare. I am very disappointed that there was no farewell concert for Austin too...............he deserved better, unless that was his choice.
@marytramp5678Күн бұрын
so you want them to drop like 90% of their songs and just start over Bc Austin was the lead or was a major role in so many of their songs? That's ludicrous! Adam B is just going to have to put his own spin on things just like when Chance took over for Chris Rupp and he sang songs that he had previously sang. Austin didn't want a farewell concert. they honored his wishes. he got exactly what he deserved, people honoring his wishes.
@franblakely6361Күн бұрын
@@marytramp5678 Chris and Chance were not major players in the group. Austin was, and he had the pipes to prove it. I would not want to follow in his footsteps and yes perhaps all new songs are a better way for him to start. Let Rob do Austin's leads! If you have followed and been to shows with Austin......I really would not want to hear someone else doing his leads. Just me but that is what I think. This is a MAJOR change on many levels, and I am not sure how this will play out.
@marytramp5678Күн бұрын
@@franblakely6361 you're not serious when you say Chris Rupp wasn't a major player in HF right!!!? without Chris there would be no HF, he and Adam CREATED HF!!!! That kind of makes both of them extremely major players! so had it not been for the fact that there was a HF they wouldn't have been on that cruise where they just happened to see Austin performing and asked him to join their group.so Austin's career at best could have been delayed for years or at worst never happened and he would have ended up on the very long list of undiscovered very talented singers. In a capella no singer is more important than the person sitting next to them. In this case HF is an quintet a capellla group. a quintet is incomplete without one singer. However, since you insist on making one member more important than another it has to be Adam. no only is he the co-founder, but he is the beat boxer. without a beat you have no tempo. without out a tempo you have no music. now let's talk about technical singing since you brought up, "he has the pipes to prove it!" Sorry to bring you down, but Austin is no more or less talented than any in the group. In fact within the group he's only average. Austin, Rob, Chance, and Adam all have a 3-4 octave while Tim has a 5 octave range.Rob, Chance, Adam, & Tim, can all sing with or with out the country twang depending on the song. While Austin can't. Not even when he sang the Italian opera with Rob. (seriously Southern country twang in a classical Italian opera?).And while Austin has formal raining in theatrical music, Rob in Classical music, and Chance took 2 semesters of college choir. The only thing it's really done for him is to be able to ham it up to the crowd a little better. but that's theatrics, not singing. Tim's forml training ended in HS and he shows others how to widen their vocal range. makes you wonder what good is formal training when you have so much natural talent. And there's Adam who is a self taught beat boxer who can do things with his mouth that make you wonder wth? Now let's talk about the replacement for Austin, Adam Bell-Bastien. HF didn't just randomly pick some guy off the street and say hey will you take the place of Austin Brown? they picked up a Very talented singer! this guy also has a 5 octave range. which will be interesting to see how they put that to use in the future. he also didn't have any formal training, he only sang as a hobby for 25 years before going professional.Now just from what we've heard he doesn't have the country twang. however, that's not unusual for people from MI. But it isn't unusual from for people from MN to not have a country twang to have one either and Chris, Adam, and Rob can all pick one up when they need to. Adam Bell-Bastien's only been singing on stage with HF for about a month. He hasn't had time to find his place with the group or had time to win over Austin's fans. Just bc Adam doesn't sing like Austin doesn't make him not as good as Austin. it just means his style is different. However his style will open the doors to many new genres to HF and this is always good. you're comparing apples to oranges and you can't do that. both are equally good in their own right, but they aren't the same thing. Change is hard, i know. nobody likes it. especially when it means the loss of one singer and a new one is brought in. But we have to remember that Austin wanted to go. he wanted to pursue other avenues. start a family and be there for that family. so we wish him well and we wish Adam Bell-Bastien well in his new place in HF. to not do so is to wish ill will on HF. And that is Not what Home Fries do. That is Not what Home Free is about.
@franblakely6361Күн бұрын
@@marytramp5678 I realize that, but he 'surrounded himself with very talented people' and yese he and his brother started the group but all others 'out shined' him, which is what a great manager should do. I have wished no one ill will so you are getting way too carried away. Austin brought the group out to the public. We had not heard of them before him. He and Tim have IT. IT is something that you have that gets the people to come to the shows. For the new guy time will tell. Also, Austin drew in the younger fans, handsome, kind, funny, energy, single (meaning not married), the list goes on.......time will tell how HF does with the new Adam. My grand daughter , daughter and I bonded over the members of HF when Austin was there. Saw them at UVIP many times, and Austin related to the 5 year old that was still relating to him at 16. Seems that you were not a fan of Austin....so be it, we all were and that is why I would not want Adam B to copy him or try to sing his songs, that we loved with that 'country twang." Also, I think that Adam B was part of HOME FREE originally......yup check it out, pretty sure on that.
@sjenny589110 күн бұрын
Just for clarification. Who was the female singing with them?
@marytramp5678Күн бұрын
i've been reading a lot of the comments. I know it's human nature to compare one tenor to another when one leaves and another enters the scene. But we just can't do that. it isn't fair to Adam B and it isn't fair to Home Free. Adam will NEVER be like Austin. So you can only judge him on how good HE sounds, how well HE fits the group dynamic, and then cut him a little slack. Most these guys have been together for forever (Chance is the baby). so they've all had time to learn just about everything there is to learn about each other on & off stage. he's still cutting his teeth. give him time. HF didn't just pick some random guy off the street to sing high tenor. they saw something in him that made him special enough to ask him to join them. I'll be honest. this is the first time i've heard him with HF. he doesn't have that country twang, but then HF doesn't do just country music so it could be refreshing. Also, a lot of the covers they did were from older country songs where the twang fit Austin's perfectly. However, some of the newer country (country rock) is smoother less twangy. and i can hear that In Adam's voice. I also actually like this rendition of Delta Dawn Better than their other one. having Adam take the lead with that smoother tenor fit him perfectly. in the original by Tanya Tucker, while she obviously has that old time country twang, she also had a smoothness to it. i thought it was beautiful.

Definitely not Austin, but then again, he never claimed to be. Yes, it sounds different but was not bad either. Bastien 0:02 lacks power and projection. That may improve with time. Rob is singing the higher tenor part and that is not his forte. It certainly is a different Home Free. I think they need to do different songs where he cannot be compared to Austin.
