This is such a great song by Don McLean! He originally did it in 1972. What a great remake with Home Free! Rob's voice is perfect for this song. Such a beautiful tribute to the sad life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. He suffered from depression & committed suicide. He never saw any success during his life. But now his paintings are worth millions of dollars.

Don McLean's iconic classic from 1972, brought back to life by Don & Home Free....it's art ! Just perfection and our hearts are filled with a bittersweet joy, knowing how Vincent suffered but despite that, brought such beauty into the world.

This song was about Vincent Van Gough and his tragic but beautiful life. The beauty that he left behind I believe showed what he wanted to say from the heart. I think Don McLean caught it wonderfully in his song. I know they all sang that song and made me fall in love with it again. ❤

This was entirely magical. The collaboration between Don and the guys actually enhanced even the original version by Don as excellent as it was back 50 some years ago. I could see Rob doing a solo cover of Vincent and it would be just as great as Don's original.

This song always brings a tear to my eyes. For several years now,I've thought they should do Starry Night because they have the vocals to express the poignancy of this artist and his life. My expectations were exceeded. Rob and Austin killed it. I always pictured Rob on lead. His voice can make you cry,he's so good. Tonight, Rob said on our livestream that when they did American Pie,he told Don McLean how much he loves this song. Don McLean,said,Then let's do it. What a wonderful story teller McLean is. He wrote this after reading a book on Vincent Van Gogh's life. Thanks Red for a great reaction!

Was waiting for you to react to this one. I figured it would move you and it did. Home Free always seem to elevate any song they sing, whether it is an original of their own, a cover or even a cover collaborating with the original artist. They stay true to the original while putting their own stamp on it. Don wrote a lyrical masterpiece with "Vincent". Beautiful poetic words and melody and Home Free added beautiful harmonies. I am an artist and painter myself and my uncle was an artist and an art teacher. I remember studying the different artists of the past which included Van Gogh. This brought back a lot of memories for me. Continue to follow and love your channel and reactions. So until the next one, have a blessed day.

Have listened to several reactions to this song after I listened to it 3 or 4 times myself! It’s not getting old at all! The respect Home Free did this with Don is incredible! Wonderful reaction! I thought the version of American Pie that they did with Don was good, But this...this is just next level. Because of the fact that Don is in his 80s now, and still sounds as good as he ever did, and the song lends itself perfectly to their minimalist (though not truly A Capella) arrangement, this is actually more touching to me than his original, and I would not have thought that possible.

This song is as aged as American Pie, in that it was originally released on the same album. I was working in a record store at that time and that album sold like crazy. It is, of course, based on Vincent Van Gogh's most famous painting - A Starry Night. That painting is currently in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. When I visited Amsterdam, I went to the Van Gogh Museum and was disappointed. It had about 50-60 self-portraits of Vincent and little else. Home Free really modernized this truly wonderful song, and I'm glad to enjoy it with you. Thanks for sharing.

I loved it too and have to admit I wasn’t a huge Don McLean fan when I was younger. But wow, it was tremendous. So beautifully done and Rob and the boys along with Don sounded so wonderful. Those painting and those harmonies killed it! Good one Red!🤩😄

Thanks Neighbor, would have hated to miss this as it's among Don's best work, tied for top spot with American Pie won't ever choose between these two iconic tunes of Don's as I have loved both since they came out. A very lovely rendition here! Love the artwork behind them, and of course, all of the vocals were excellent! It’s very soothing to the soul, as well! Definitely a fast and long time fav! Maybe you can react sometime to their rendition with Don to American Pie? It’s fabulous! It’s a long one they all cover a verse and Don sings the chorus each time. It’s brilliant!

You might want to check out the song Killing Me Softly, best known performance by Roberta Flack. It's all about listening to a man singing songs such that they seemed to reach into the woman's soul. The song was written about Don McLean.

I was at school when Don McLean wrote and released this beautiful song in the 1970s and I've always loved it. Home Free really help to bring out all the emotion in the lyrics. I really hope this version gets the attention it deserves.

Beautiful song by Don MacLean. If Van Gogh was alive today, he'd probably be diagnosed as suffering from severe depression and anxiety. It's a shame he lived in a time when the human mind was so misunderstood.

Sincere reaction. But, context; Dom McLaen: 'Misery sells!' Van Goch's fame is more based on success by failure drama than painting. He has qualities - I live within visiting distance op the first Stinking Rich collector (Mrs Kroller Muller) Museum and Van Goch Museum Amsterdam - and I was a professional painter/illustrator. 1 work sold for 170 mln?! Drama business.

Red, I will test you observational powers, at about 5:30 minutes when there is transposing effect before the final scene of HF observing the painting , we see the HF group transposed onto the center painting. Am I right?
