The original singer/songwriter, Lee Greenwood, is in his mid-seventies, yet he still has an amazing voice. Did hear that fly-over at the end. That was Adam Rupp, singer/beatboxer

The Singing Sergeants apparently sing for ceremonial events, and concerts. This was recorded during the shutdown, which is remarkable in itself. I always loved this song, and this rendition brings even more richness by allowing Lee Greenwood to do ad libs that he has always wanted to do. Great reaction!

Lee Greenwood still sounds amazing, to listen to him you would never know that he was 77 when this video was made. They indeed have "drums", but they come from the mouth of the talented beat boxer Adam Rupp. Everything about this song is a capella.

Lee Greenwood sounds great for 77! He wanted to do a remake and contacted Home Free and the US Air Force Singing Sergeants. Home Free is so good. There were no drums, just the HF beatboxer doing the drum sounds. He’s remarkable. Good reaction!

The military drumming and "flyover" by Adam Rupp at the end there were AMAZING! The soldiers in the US Air Force Band are also called "The Singing Sergeants." My understanding is that they have served in other areas before transferring to this group. They have smaller groups within the band that go to various places to perform at concerts and call attention to the military and what they do around the world.

Didn't that give you chills? Lee Greenwood is 80 and still has great vocals, such a good song he wrote. It was all acapella, the amazing drum sounds were from Home Free's beatboxer Adam, he even made the jet flyover sound at the end of it.

It is not a military band here, It is actually a vocal group from the USAF called the "Air Force Sargeants" that sing along with Home Free and Lee Greenwood. There is a member of Home Free that does the voice beat box, but the entire performance is a capella-no musical instruments at all (unless you consider the voice an instrument).

This is a fantastic collaboration!… Are you sure you listen to the video the making of God bless the USA! It’s great to see the interaction between the three groups as they were making this! Lee, Producer Darren Rust, at home free discussing what this song means to them!! Listen to a Home Free singing “land of the free” & and “my country ‘tis of Thee!”

Military musicians and singers are recruited specifically to perform music and undergo a rigorous audition process. These people are not trained as soldiers, and all represent their specific branches tremendously. I am fortunate to live near the US Coast Guard Academy and thoroughly enjoy their performances ... concert band, jazz band, Big Band, etc. So much talent that they share not only locally, but internationally as well.

That was the Air Force band they aren't going to fight on the front lines anyways. I myself was in the Army, my MOS (Military Occupational Skill) was 11 Bravo or Army Infantry. I never saw any Air Force band members that can sing clearing houses or going on missions with us in Iraq back in 2004.

My dad was a veteran of The War In the Pacific (China, Burma, India) and Korea. Served in these theaters as well as Oklahoma, Missouri, Washington D.C., Germany, Detroit, the after 22 years he taught Army reservists another 11. I was 4F (flat feet), but as an Army brat (even at 73) I get choked up listening to this.

Not a band, but actually a vocal group and one of them is actually making the music with his mouth. So take a look and listen. That makes the song even that more special because it is a cappella with non-instruments but yet instruments.

Though this is a very patriotic song, I wish Lee Greenwood had not designated Americans as a place rather than as humans. "I'm proud to be an American, WHERE..." It would be much more sensible to nake it "I'm proud to be an American, WHO at least knows I'm free." Or "...an American because at least..." Anyway it was sung very well and you guys had a nice reaction.

I would also quibble with the wording that the soldiers "GAVE those rights to me." They secured those rights. As stated in the Declaration of Independence, we are endowed by our Creator with rights including life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and governments - including military and law enforcement - are instituted to secure those rights.
