This is actually the first time I sat down and REALLY listened to this song, without it just being there in the background. I mention jokingly in the video, that Canada doesn't really have any patriotic anthems like this, and bring up some Canadian musical equivalents. While of course we do have a few anthems of our own, I don't want to downplay as a joke, what reverence Canadians have musicians like Gord Downie, Geddy Lee, Stompin' Tom, Rufus Wainwright, Stan Rogers, Raine Maida, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and so many other influential Canadian artists.
No we don't have God Bless Canada, but our stories are told through great musicians, and recording this really got me feeling sentimental about Canadian culture. I'm so glad I listened to this.

Lee Greenwood said that after singing this song the same way for 30 years , he loved that he could take a different approach to it this time because Home Free did such an amazing job holding the background and deliver the perfect harmonies that they are known for . Thank you for a great reaction , looking forward to your next upload , stay safe

@@DanFromHali I want your opinion , thoughts and analysis about this song. Imagine if there was a Canadian version of the song Lee Greenwood and Homefree God bless America. For example, God bless Canada or I am proud to be Canadian with the same lyrics harmony and etc.

Even as a Canadian this song does affect me everytime I hear it. One thing you will find watching future Home Free videos is that they are not Divas and are never afraid to stand back a bit and let the performer they are colaborating with shine.

Did you catch Adam’s “fly over” sound at the very end to honor the Air Force? Lee Greenwood is 75 and still great! This was during quarantine. The different cities are where everyone was working from: Austin, Tim & Lee in Nashville, Rob & Adam in Minneapolis, Chance in LA, Air Force in Washington. Darren Rust (in the video) is their arranger, he’s the magic man!!

@@DanFromHali I missed it the first 3 times I listened to this before I saw a post pointing it out just like this. "From the lakes of Minnesota" - sung by Rob, who's from Minnesota. "To the hills of Tennessee" - sung by a young lady (whose name I can't remember) who's from Nashville, TN. "Across the plains of Texas" - sung by Tim, who's from Texas. "From sea to shining sea" - sung by Chance, who was born in FL, grew up in AL, and now lives in Los Angeles, CA. And I saw somewhere that the young lady who sings, "From Detroit down to Houston" is from Detroit originally. I thought this part of the arrangement was pretty cool.

The young lady from Tennessee knew Tim from working in Nashville before enlisting in the AF to join this Air Force Band. She was aware of HF's arrangement of the song, and asked Tim if HF was willing to collaborate with the AF singers. I'm not sure who asked Lee, but he sure seemed to enjoy himself performing a song he's done hundreds, if not thousands of times in his career.

Just an FYI, those weren’t ads at the beginning. Those were the different cities/locations where the videos were filmed. They were in 4 different locations due to COVID last year.Tim, Austin, and Lee were in Nashville, Chance was in L.A., Adam and Rob were in Minnesota/Mankato, and the Air Force Singers were in D.C.. Lee sounds amazing for his age! Home Free gave him free reign to sing it like he wanted, with more freedom than he’s every had. The woman you spoke about really stood out to me, too! Her voice is really silky smooth. They all sounded so good together! I love Adam’s drumming toward the end! All of the voices at the end were phenomenal! Adam’s “flyover” effects at the end really made the lump in my throat bigger. I could picture the Blue Angels flying over, as though there were really there! This is a very powerful rendition!! Loved your breakdown, and your appreciation of it, too!

Home Free’s beatboxer was doing the drums and doing a sound of a jet at the end. Pretty cool. Home Free also does this song without Lee in front of Mt. Rushmore. It’s good also. Home Free has collaborated with Lee Greenwood, Kenny Rogers, Oak Ridge boys, Alabama and recently Don McLean. They sing country but also sing all genres of music and sing them well. Btw, I also love hockey. Good reaction!

Thank you - it's a very powerful song, even if it isn't your country they're singing about - I'm British. For the subtleties of the layering, credit Darren Rust, their producer, who you can see in the studio with Lee, Tim and Austin - he's seriously talented, and a good singer himself, with Mid-Western vocal group The Blenders. The female blonde singer who took the "from the hills of Tennessee" line is a old friend of Tim's who used to live in Nashville before she joined up, and she's the one who suggested that Home Free collaborate with the Singing Sergeants group that she's part of. Home Free then asked Lee Greenwood, who they'd met when they were on the Grand Ole Opry, to join them and this was the result.

This is wonderful. Having Home Free do this with Lee Greenwood and the military service men and women made it so special. And, Home Free isn't ego driven so letting their featured artists shine is how they roll. The first time I went to a NASCAR race and after the National Anthem, when the fly over happened it was so exciting and you could feel everyone at the track just bonding over the patriotic feeling. It was awesome. I love the jet fly over sound Adam does at the end. It sounds amazing. Everyone's voices sounded great. Probably a lot of work editing it all together. Shout out to Darren Rust.

Another proud Canuck here. I totally agree with you , we don't have any 'popular' patriotic songs like the US does. 'Born in the USA', 'God bless the USA", these songs stir my soul and make me wish we had something similar that us Canadians could rally around. 'The good old hockey game' just doesn't have the same tug at the heart strings. I really think the perfect mix would be a little Canadian humility and a little of the US pride in their country. Maybe have a collaboration of Lee Greenwood and Bob & Doug McKenzie make us a song!

As a Canadian, Lee Greenwood has recorded a song called God Bless you Canada and I listen to it every year for sure and of course, every chance I get. You're right though, we don't have too many who sings patriotism songs as many Canadians don't show it. In our own little way though, whenever something happens, that's when Canadians come out full force. I'm thinking of the Hwy of Heroes and the Truckers Convoy, etc. Here's a link to that song. Enjoy! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNGnaaSEtNu1hqc.html and here's the other video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMxjmJx00ZeRcqc.html

Lovin’ the Home Free reactions. Home Free has been around since 2000 when Chris and Adam Rupp started the group while in college. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole and you like “oldies” tunes (which I love) I highly recommend these songs off their album Kickin’ It Old School from 2009, before Tim, Austin and Chance joined the group. These are audio only, no videos. King of the Road kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m5qmo9qUy6yUhIU.html Under the Boardwalk kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7ykdrCom8CmoGg.html Blue Moon kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7WqpMWKsamdh4k.html The lead/tenor singer here is Matt Atwood, one of the original singers. It was Matt’s grandfather that helped financially support the group in the early days and it’s his (Matt’s grandfather’s) boat that they took their name from. Austin replaced Matt when he left in 2012/2013. The bass singer here is Elliot Robinson and he is really good. He does the lead on King of the Road. Tim replaced Elliot in 2010. Apparently they had several different bass singers over the years. For an early video of Home Free, check them out singing Hey, Soul Sister on WGN from 3/25/2011. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m62el5WKzZeqnIE.html

@@DanFromHali - if you do check out Hey, Soul Sister, you may be the first reactor to do so. I’ve never seen anyone do that one before. And very, very few ever do anything from their early albums. They were good back then, but have definitely gotten better over the years. I look forward to whatever you choose.

I understand what you are saying, and appreciate the zeal, but that's just fundamentally and not accurate. The USA has the highest number of practicing Christians in the world, its true... by a very large proportion. But when it comes to the percentage of Christianity by representation of population, The US is #100 (About 65% of those who claim to practice organized religion), and out of those other 100, The US doesn't even top the Top 50 of them when it comes to Christian practice, and Zealousness. And that's just talking about Christianity. I'd argue that other religions who believe their creator to be "our creator" would most certainly have some representation at the top of the list as well.

Tbh, when I think of Canada and who would be your premiere singer/songwriter, I think of Gordon Lightfoot.
@DanFromHali
@DanFromHali 10 ай бұрын
I mean, sure. Gordon Lightfoot is classic. He's up there for sure. And while he is an OG, we also have Sarah Maclachlan, Leonard Cohen, Tom Connors, Bachman and Cummings, Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Stan Rogers, Bryan Adams, Ed Robertson, Gord Downie, Joni Mitchell, Shawn Mendes, Buffy Sainte Marie, Heck... Drake. Anda that's excusing the great songwriters of bands like The New Pornographers, Guess Who, Lover Boy, Sloan, April Wine, Billy Talent, Rush, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Our Lady Peace, Blue Rodeo, Metric Steppenwolf, July Talk, The Arkells, Marianas Trench, Trooper, The Trap Party, Big Wreck, and Great Big Sea. I don't want to discount Gordon. He's well known across the world. And when it comes to singer songwriters, it's easy to say, hey that's the guy. And if we are comparing Don to a Canadian Singer Songwriter, that's probably the one you'd go to... Or maybe Neil. But in my humble opinion, our premiere singer/songwriter is probably Joni Mitchell or Gord Downie. I know Mitchell is huge, and has had a huge impact on the industry. I don't know how well know Gord Downie is outside of Canada. I see a lot of people reacting to him and his last concert with Tragically Hip lately. But while his global relevance is questionable, his music, songwriting, his poetry, his influence and impact has made a permanent mark on not just the music industry in Canada, but Canadian culture as a whole. You know how there are artists that you conjure in your mind as synonymous with America, or songs, or whatever? While Gordon Lightfoot has an amazing career, h 's not somebody where when I hear them I think, Canada. Stompin Tom, Stan Rogers, they are synonymous with Canada. Joni and Gord? They aren't just synonymous, they are Canadian symbols as much as the maple leaf on our flag, or the loon on our $1 coin.

Check out the version of this song that Home Free did at Mount Rushmore when Chris Rupp was still part of the group. Adam Rupp's beat boxing is easier to hear; I particularly like when he switches at the end to a snare drum sound.

Every word he spoke would extent to how most Americans feel about our neighbors to the north. We not only share a border with Canada, but we share the same belief in freedom and willingness to protect the individual's rights. We also expect everyone should be able to feel this way about their own country. It's kind of like a family, our immediate family can do some really stupid things that we ride them about, but no one outside the family is aloud to criticize them to us. It's family business. The same goes for extended family, cousins for example or friends who we are tied too by common beliefs and respect. Just because you don't have rousing songs does not mean I don't believe that you are just as proud of your home country as we are with ours. You just have your own way of expressing it. God bless our peaceful relationship with our cousins to the north.

Actually, Lee Greenwood wrote the song, & it's amazing But is not our Nation Anthem. Maybe you could look up "The Star Bangled Banner". I guarantee this one will touch you even more so. It was written about the Revolutionary War, if I'm not mistaken. I watched a video that explained exactly what was happening during that time. Not something I ever learned in U.S. History at school.
