What's up guys! Welcome back to the Creative Channel!
I've got TWO Home Free videos coming at you today on the CC! It's almost like a Home Free marathon haha. I'm reacting to all of their performances when they competed on the show, The Sing Off! I decided to separate the video into two parts since it was so long...this one is Part 1. Check the links below for Part 2!
It was fun getting to see them in the "beginning stages" and to see how far they progressed even on the show. Lots of fun songs and lots of beautiful singing AS ALWAYS! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope you enjoy the reaction too! Thanks for watching! :)
Here's the link to the original video:

That "battle" with Filharmonic is one of the greatest performances from any season of Sing Off. Both sides worked together to just perform the song, putting the music and the listeners ahead of the battle.

Love seeing these Sing Off shows as I never saw any of them live. What stands out to me is not only how young the guys look but the humility & support they give each other. No divas in this group. And Adam Rupp's talent already was head & shoulders above a lot of the other beatboxers at that time. Hard to believe he is even better now. It is also fun listening to the judges comments. They loved these guys from the start.

Just came to this now. They didn't start then. They had years perfecting their trade. They had a vault of recordings from over the years. Nerves being on the show was a factor. Believe it or not they auditioned 2xs to be on the show. At first, this group got started in high school. Members were friends & who lived close by in Minnesota. They were part-time having other jobs. Members left (job, family, school responsibilities etc.). Tim Had an extensive background in doing a capella groups. He had done one perm job and few gigs would be hired for period of time. Home Free had worked with him on occasion when did some touring. When they transitioned into full time, Tim was willing to commit, as it wouldn't require him to live in a 'cold' place. Austin Met the group while they both performed on a cruise line. He replaced another tenor had to leave at that point. They toured extensively & done variety of shows (fairs, cruises, opening acts etc.). By the time another audition came up for The Sing Off, Austin & Tim replaced other members. Keep in mind The Sing Off wasn't always year-to-year consistent. (My only regret is instead of keeping it for small a capella groups, they also did mass choirs & ensembles. Because of logistics/costs it was easier to group all together over a shorter span of time for a matter of a few weeks & air later the competition during the winter holidays. That meant recording the competition during the summer.) When they performed for auditions a couple of songs from their live performances. One of producers I think, remarked to them why not consider marketing themselves as a country a capella group? Brothers Chris & Adam Rupp the founders hadn't thought about it. Tim being Texan with a trained tenor voice who also sang bass tried to be contemporary & Austin from Georgia also was trained & his father was part of a gospel group, in addition was a theater major. Their voices combined somehow transitioned into sounding country like. Tim in an interview stated that one doesn't see something unless it's pointed out. They decided to go in that direction. It did not mean they stopped doing music they were interested in. The direction gave them an audience that supported other groups such as Oak Ridge Boys & The Statler Brothers. The timing of the Sing-Off paid off for them. The prior year's winner was Pentatonix. That group was assembled for the competition. Glad they didn't compete directly with them. Although it's a small circle of a capella groups, it enabled Home Free to not only win, but to network & develop relationships with VoicePlay, Avi, and Adam Chance who later replaced Chris as the baritone.

just for a little HF History, the first song they sang was their first performance real with Austin. He did go to school for musical theater and took his first job after school on a Cruise Ship. This is where HF found him and as they were about to lose a member, used his live performances as his audition and invited him along. They practiced a bit then went to the Sing Off.

Thank you! Home Free started 12 years before this! Rob joined in 2008, Tim in 2010 and Austin in 2012. I watched HF on the Sing Off but wasn’t a fan till 2020. I now know it’s because my favorite tenors, and HF founders Chris and Adam weren’t highlighted well on the show in my opinion. The judges never mentioned Chris. 😣. I became a Home Fry after watching videos that showcased their amazing gifts. 😁

I LOVE these performances, they're so good, and also theyre so young lol. For me they had the show won after their first performance, and they were so good all the way through. I've seen heaps of comments and reactors talk about how good they are vocally, but I've always been struck by how flawless their performances were as well. They're so in tune with each other, hit their stage positions perfectly every time, and move so well together, and there are lots of little changes in their stage choreography that they hit perfectly at every point. Pretty woman is a good example, with the changes of tempo and tone, from fast paced finger snapping to the doo wop bit. They were a class act all the way

A kind of disadvantage for the Philharmonic was that the members of Home Free are all tall. The 'shortest' is Austin and he's 6'1" & 1/2 (the tallest is Rob at 6'4"). Since viewers didn't know how tall each band was, it would make it look like Philharmonic was height challenged (when they were probably average height).
