Youth Hockey outside the State of Hockey is very different than it is in Minnesota. Club teams, AAA teams, junior ranks, give players and parents a multitude of options to play hockey, but the costs from both a financial and emotional aspect can be high. Take a look at youth hockey outside Minnesota, and how the community the community model inside the borders, continue to produce players in both mens and women's hockey among the highest levels of the sport. It"s fun seeing Taylor Heise on a local outdoor rink. I was frankly a lousy hockey player who loved and still love the game and who grew up three blocks from an outdoor rink. University of Minnesota players who grew up in the neighborhood skating on the same rink came back played in pick-up games with us. With 20 people 22 years old to elementary age out there, (1) you could be inspired by the college guys' talents, but (2) you had a chance to get the puck and pass off to someone far more talented. Thought it was especially great when Taylor held the warming house door for the young player coming out.

Proud Minnesota hockey player, though too bad I had the "misfortune" of playing high school hockey for a private school. That being said, the guys I played with growing up in my part of Saint Paul are my brothers for life. Played for a year in college at a school in New England. All my teammates were from the northeast and wanted to know what the MN State HS Tournament was like to play in. Had to tell them I didn't come close, but we had a lot of fun partying at the tournament watching it!

Watching the outpouring of support for Wyatt Kaiser at the X on Saturday....these videos scream TRUTH! There was 150-200 at McGovern's in support of him. Everyone bought their own tickets and supported a great kid who is living out his dream and we were all on the ride along with him.
