This is my first video to show how I built this window bay seat. I hope people find it helpful or even use as a guid.
If you like it let me know. Currently I am doing up our home so have plenty more things to build.

Thank you for this video. Been wanting to do this myself but never felt confident enough in the past. After being let down a few times with builders, I finished off their work and pleased with the results. Watching this, I am going to get the wood and build one. Thanks again for making this video. Really helps massively!!

Great video, would be really helpful if you did a full list of materials needed at the beginning. For people with no DIY experience it's a little tricky to know where to get started on that front! Wish me luck!

Thanks. I made this. The addition was built by a previous homeowner decades ago and is no longer level. So I built the front framework first, then using a level placed the back baton with one screw in the center. This enabled me to get it level with the front and then the tilt the baton horizontally until that was level. The rest went as you described. I noticed that you placed a baton on the floor behind the front framework.

Great video, but would have been really helpful to see how you cut the angles for the top. This is always my downfall in DIY projects! Just can't work them out!
@gregpugh4632

Caitlin Hillary thanks for the comment. I just used a digital angle finder, and measured the smaller length and then applied the angle. Always cut on the side of a bit to big and trim down. Just keep trying and having fun building.

I have an identical space - just with a radiator - is something like this still advisable with some of ventilation or would you recommend an alternative option? I would like as close to what you have done here as possible tbh... Thanks.

I'm planning to build two and attach them together shape as an L. I wasn't sure if i should attach my seating to the wall?? Or make two boxes and add a frame in front without attaching them to the wall.
@gregpugh4632
@gregpugh4632 4 жыл бұрын
Either should work great, making boxes before hand and attaching face frames is the more traditional, however would cost more in material. I would always suggest drawing it out first and even input it into a 3D modelling tool like Sketchup. it always helps me.

Kai Johnson thanks for the comment. So this one cost about £125. Was simple 2x3 lengthens and some flooring boards. The MDF I used for the doors I already had. But prob just about £30 for the sheet + decorative strip wood. Post yours once complete yours man.

How did you figure out how much smaller to make the doors than the openings so that they fit properly
@gregpugh4632
@gregpugh4632 4 жыл бұрын
Borisaurus Rex, just taking 2mm off each edge gave me plenty of space, the doors are only 18mm thick so don’t need much space to pivot.

@@gregpugh4632 thanks for the response. Did you use a router to put the MDF board in for the doors or is there an even simpler method?
@gregpugh4632
@gregpugh4632 4 жыл бұрын
@@BigBoJay so i built the doors by adding some decretive strips to an MDF cut out, nothing crazy, to hang them i just added the hinges without countersinking them, they are thin hinges so no bother. Like i said i hated doing doors, and this was a simple go at them, i have got better though trying and now use a router options to build styles and rails and slot the board in a groove. hope that helps
