You are my hero. I'm working on converting a room to an office at the moment. Thanks for the inspiration & continued coaching. Also, the day my husband had his colonoscopy our 7 year old snuck the enema box out of the garbage. He used it for show-and-tell. Our "why, why, why" child explained "butt drops" to the entire class. I received *the call* from the teacher, sitting in the recovery room with a loopy husband who laughed so hard over this that he farted himself out of the wheelchair, further delaying our return home. We have wonderful silly amazing lives, don't we?

Your office is so happy!! I'm surprised with the pink. It really brightens up the space. 💖💖💖 When my youngest was a five year old asked me "Mom how are babies made? I REALLY WANT TO KNOW." So I tell her and she is asking me questions so I go into enough detail for her to know. She stared at me for a good minute. I said "Are you OK? Did I tell you too much?" She said"No I asked... But... Mom?" I said"What baby?" She SAID " ADULTS ARE SO WEEEEIRD!" 🤣 I said"Yeah... Adults are weird."

Aahahahahaaahaaahaaaa!!! Love you! We didnt have kids that thought trees were doing anything inappropriate to their eyes, but I got my students to understand what being allergic was by making it into a game. Basically it was a game of freeze-tag but a tad different. This might sound a tad complicated at first but I promise it isn't after a short while of playing it :D They had a basic understanding how we get sick (we have bacteria and viruses that make us sick and our immune system fights them). We had three teams; one had about 10 kids in it (the immune system who chased people), second had 2 people in it (a bacteria and a virus how evaded the immune system) and third had all the rest of the kids (allergens, in our case about 7 kids who had labels of peanut and pollen, cause that was what our kids were allergic to who also evade from the immune system). (We tried to keep Immune system to be about half of all the kids so it really is difficult when they are all moving, depends on the kids age and capability to get the balance right, aim is to make it actually really challenging for the immune system when the allergens are in the game and make it easy with only bacteria/virus.) The aim of the game for immune system is to freeze everyone and to bacteria/virus/allergen was to unfreeze everyone. Immune system chases bacteria/virus/allergen and if the are caught they need to freeze and wait till another bacteria/virus/allergen tags them to unfreeze. In the beginning the allergens do not move, but when a teacher shouts "allergy season" then the allergens are free to move as well, immunesystem needs to freeze them too and allergenc can unfreeze everyone also the bacteria/virus. And when the teacher shouts "inhaler" the allergens stop moving. Kids really easily see how much harder it is for the immune system to work and to freeze everyone is they have to "fight"/chase ordinary things as well as just bacteria and virus. "Some people have an immune system that "fights"/chases everything, others don't. And inhalers are really important to allergic people so that they don't get out of breath ALL of the time."

Love you Cass!! About spit my coffee out!!! 😂 I worked in an OBGYN office for 12 years, so my daughter knew exactly where babies came from. Fast forward a few years, I took her to visit a friend who had just given birth in the hospital to her son. She had to have a C-Section. My daughter promptly says to my doctor who delivered my friends son. “Baby Jack came from Ashley’s tummy, I came from my mom’s ba-gina!” I’m dying!! Dr. Brink being the calm, stoic woman she is, responded “That is correct Olivia, and you know what? I knew you, when you were in your mommy’s tummy.” Her mind was blown. Oh, the joys of children!!

You have not failed your children. I admire that you are open and honest with your children. They will come to respect and admire you. More so it seems like your children are brights and can make the connections in their limited way. There are great books about how nature works. Use books as tools. Miss frizzle in the magic school bus does a great job teaching about pollen. Keep on teaching. They will learn. Keep up your sense of humor and enjoy the process of raising your children!

As someone who is also allergic to the air, I find that story HilarIOus!!! Seriously, that is a great story. But it might be a good idea to sit them down with a science textbook or encyclopedia (on the internet of course b/c they don't print it anymore) or something though cause I'm pretty sure the middle school science teacher wouldn't have the same reaction. Love it, it is a human reaction story and honest. I like that you don't lie to your kids about that stuff. They are going to be properly educated and we need more of that.
