Since you're already into the Arlo ecosystem, Arlo's security lights could also be a good way to augment your layer 4 perimeter. The lights are battery powered and have PIR motion sensors. A huge downside is that each light is expensive (~$60 for an add-on), but you would get alerts on your phone and can tie alerts in with the rest of your smart home. Ring's security lights (formerly Mr. Beams) are another option for integrating perimeter alerts with a mobile device or into a smart home (they're also significantly cheaper).

The human motion cameras work great but the alert is to quite and can’t be adjusted Any recommendations for someone looking for the best motion detection but with a loud alarm? Buying one of these driveway alarms is close to buying a entire 4cam security system no? I have 1 camera that does the entire job I need but the alert is way to silent
@dwd864
@dwd864 2 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with Arlo is you have no ability to rotate the camera and no follow motion! Samsung makes a very affordable black cam with motion. 360 rotation and follow and includes two way audio, zoom, and Of Course picture and video and three manual activated alarm options. up to 7 cameras on your cell or pc . Has 90 degree vertical motion as well! Very useful, night vision and very inexpensive. !

I have two of the perimeter alarms; plan on disguising one in front yard as a birdhouse, with solar panel as the roof. I’m still undecided if I like the intruder hearing the chime or not… 🤔 The micro usb availability is great, too. I can use these while car camping as well! Great video
@Mr2Reviews
@Mr2Reviews 3 жыл бұрын
I would also recommend installing hidden/disguised security cameras in addition to dummy cams that look identical to your regular cams (if you don't utilize hidden ones). You can hide them in bird feeders, bird houses, potted plants, etc. Whatever looks like normal everyday items in prime security camera locations. Also, make sure the cameras have cross lines of sight so you can see intruders attempting to paint/obscure/cover your real/dummy cams.

The solar option and range are a plus. We live in a subdivision and my motion sensor cameras work great, but I'm the only one that seems to monitor the annunciation on the app. We don't have a fence around our backyard and there is a gap between the adjoining neighbors fencing, so kids are frequently "cutting thru" so this would be perfect.

@@TheUrbanPrepper I could be wrong and I hope I am, but I don't think your alarm system is in contact with the police anymore. I hear it's being routed to a PC counselor who shows up in a day or two and then sits down with you to check your white privilege about how racist you are for actually trying to get the police involved. Also, that Lone Ranger theme music used as an alarm, is racist. Don't you know he was exploiting his "SIDE KICK TONTO"...or maybe you just don't care...either way sir...YOU are a bigot, and should go out right now and bow down and wash the feet of the first black person you see and then beg him to take your money as a tip, for him allowing you the honor of washing his feet. Then come home and quickly remove and destroy all these racist alarms that you have put on "YOUR" home on property that was STOLEN from the very people you choose to exploit along with the Lone Ranger. Well, my job is done here and I'm off to the next bigot youtuber to check their white privilege, but make no mistake sir, I will be watching your channel VERY closely from now on.

We have a similar setup with the Arlo cameras and motion detectors around the house. If we are expecting an Amazon order to be delivered we’ll turn them on so we know when it has arrived and they always detect the mailman or UPS dude. We also have 5 motion activated spot lights, 3 are hard wired and on the house in the porch light position, 2 are solar powered and are 12’ up in the trees near the house. It’s not unusual for a deer to activate 2 or 3 when they are eating our bushes. The lights are from Costco. The slimming effect of black clothing apparently doesn’t work for bike lock guy ! 😂

Excellent advice, Try out the Ajax alarm system, it works online and offline with its wireless sirens, one indoor siren and a big outdoor loud siren...so if long poweroutage and no internet..the ajax has 15 hrs on battery with the Hub and Hub 2. Enough for nightime of 9 hrs is sufficient. Fully sim card and wifi online service when power and cellular is working too..so both for perfect conditions and in totall blackout without cellular it still alerts you internally. All ajax has wireless and uses batteries that last 2 years plus.

The big enemy of outdoor motion sensor cameras and alarms is wind. Mine are constantly triggered by trees and shrubs being blown around, even using zone exclusions. It's a major pain when I'm out for the day or weekend and my phone is blowing up with constant alerts due to high winds in the area. I'm waiting for an A.I. human-sensing security camera that knows when not to bug me.

Setting up an automatic drone neighborhood watch sounds like an interesting thing to do. If you get the neighbors to contribute and create an automated drone network programmed for patroling and recharging. Just wondering, why not also have automatic, motion detection floodlights? That way they'll get detected, flashed, and exposed.
@TheUrbanPrepper

Sounds like you know NOTHING about drones. They are human operated and and have a battery life of less than 20 minutes usually. Most don't have night vision and must be flown by a human with line of site. It's difficult to make out details on the phone or tablet while in flight. There are laws about where they can be flown, etc. The media would like you to believe they can deliver packages and stay in the air all day. This is still far from true. The idea of a drone for neighborhood security is ridiculous at this point.

My only suggestion is place the sensors closer to the choke points. You want the sensor placed closer to the corner of the house coming up the side. Also, additional “random red lights” that light up once additional sensors are triggered is an amazing deterrent: you kinda want them to know they’ve triggered it as a deterrent.

Does the front sensor go off if Bike Lock Guy (BLG for short) go off if he didn't come down the pathway but around the side? I also like the idea of having motion sensor lights outside if I am doing something around the side I will at least have some lighting for myself as well as shining on anyone snooping around. Which I hear is happening more and more around neighborhoods. Great stuff as always. Thanks for the video brother

TheUrbanPrepper The motion detection flood lights I have are the solar LED flood lights that COSTCO carries. These are in addition to the wired floodlights that the house came with. They normally sell for $40 but I’ve also bought them on sale for $30. They’re simple with no WiFi/camera connection but they’re reliable, cheap and basically have the COSTCO lifetime warranty. I’m thinking to also install them at my tree line at the perimeter of my yard which should work in conjunction with the driveway sensors you reviewed

Literally everything you had setup in this video can be done much more efficiently with better security cameras. I literally have 35.00 cameras that do the perimeter monitoring through the security camera software Blueiris. It can be configured to easily setup line crossing and it works day and night with HUGE amounts of pre-warning someone is approaching the "secured area". Rather than having all these battery or solar operated things about the property just use good camera software. I can tell you now, that when birds do the #2 on those solar panels for the perimeter sensors, it diminishes the recharging capacity significantly, and then it becomes useless. You have to constantly maintain these items, whereas the camera(s) are under the eaves, out of the way of bird bombs and they do ALL of what you described in this video. The cameras can even be shared with the local police and the neighborhood watch you mentioned, no need for all the items you use in this video.

Some decent info, but it's hard to be taking these things seriously when you have a glass door and a large window next to the door as seen at 6:51. Someone could knock out that glass and be inside the house in 20 seconds.

If you had that security and no boundary wall in South Africa you would be dead already. We need electric fences and beams when we talk about security.

Notify the "defunded" police? I'm not so sure.
@TheUrbanPrepper
@TheUrbanPrepper 3 жыл бұрын
There's a large local community who is strongly against that whole "defund the police movement". To be accurate, when the alarm goes off, a representative from the alarm company will call in to ask for the secret passcode. If the person answers incorrectly or doesn't answer at all, then the company will notify the police. We've had a few accidental alarms and the cops came fairly quickly.
