You can make it a lot easier. I use a mousetrap, do a hole in the wood and place the cartridge through it.

And that doesn't even require a post apocalyptic welder and drill press.

My mom’s family is from Kössen in Tirol. I haven’t been there since around 1994 or so. Man I miss Kössen! I used to go there every few years to visit family, but now they’re all dead of old age and nobody is left. Greeting from Los Angeles.

As I dont have a lathe either, I think I will try a pipe and tap a thread over the outside. Will modify this for .22 nail gun blanks, and just offset it for rimfire. Great video thanks.

Great engineering. I made one for 17$. Yours is simpler. I would add a 90deg bend to the flat plat in the middle so it could be used as a mounting surface. Add holes for screws or cord.

I've been searching channels looking for a simple device and fabrication. I'm VERY Pleased that you have done it. I also don't have a metal lathe...so seeing someone fabricate this with a few pieces of hardware and a welder...Is Awesome. The History lesson was quite nice too. I learned two things today. Thanks for a Great video.

The hole in the nail + pin combination results in too much friction and difficulty to trigger. Better would be a double notch on the nail and a plate with a notch, to keep tension and release the nail.

I've learnt some important lessons with these. Firstly they are indeed dangerous. Secondly they aren't needed. They may alert that an intruder is around but they are so loud they alert the world to your position. Better and much safer using rattling tin cans.

A price of galvanized pipe 3/4" if I recall . . .a bell reducer and a price of round stock that fits the small end and a price of tape to be sure it stays . A price of pipe ( old muffler pipe works well , and a long cotter pin for a . . . . . pull pin that your trip wire attaches to . Put the 12 gauge shell into the galvanised pipe screw on the bell reducer then insert the round stock ( turn the end or hammer it to a point ) then put some tape to keep it located off the primer ( Be careful if it hits the primer it will go boom ) also if parts and time aren't a problem use a spring and epoxy or silicone each end of the spring over the round stock to keep it in place as it's safer . Then drill a hole through the muffler pipe off center so the pipe , shell bell reducer can't pass the cotter pin in the pipe . Put in the pin run trip wire attach to cover pin so the pin will pull out of the muffler pipe allowing the ' assembly ' to drop and it's own weight will drive the round stock into the primer . . .Boom ! No welding or tools required as a nail and hammer will put holes into the muffler pipe . All else is hand assembled . My outer perimeter will have these . . . .and a couple other types . My second perimeter will be bodies of those that didn't get the message from the first perimeters warning . I like the Vlad deterrent technique . Be well and again great bid .
