It's been a while since I did one of these. These are my home tanks. Most of them have US native fish. One of these has mostly Mexican natives. The other tank has a mix of Asian, African, Australian and South American fish.

I love your tanks so much. The 75 is amazing with allof those native fish. The bowfront...stunning! Marvin is adorable. I dont know if mine is male or female, but I refer to it as a him for some reason. Avocado puffers are so fun!

Nice video ! I'm about to get some Longears myself, so I wanted to see how you managed yours. I am surprised how many fish we have in common. I too have MTS, and one of my tanks has nothing but Tetras, shrimp, Cory's, and Kuhlies. I too had a pair of Angelicus loaches, but the male hounded the female to death. I then added him to a 75g tank with 7 Clown loaches, with the largest being a 7 inch female. My others ranged from 3 to 4 inches. Well at first all was perfect. He quickly took to hanging out with the Clowns, and showed zero aggressive behavior. After a few months, he started following the large female around, and then started engaging the largest Clown male who was slightly larger. This was in a 75g tank with lots of hiding spots, so I wasn't too concerned as it never rose to the level of bad behavior I witnessed when he was housed with the female Angelicus. I later went away for 3 nights and 2 days, and came home to find I was missing both the larger male Clown, and the Angelicus. I do have two cats, so I figured they must have jumped out, and the cats scooped them up. Saw no evidence of any remains in the tank, but eventually found the Angelicus under the tank stand all dried up. I have kept many species of loaches, Yoyo's, Dwarf Chain, Skunk, and Clowns. But that Angelicus male was the nastiest piece of work I've ever encountered from a loach. So I hope your Angelicus aren't as aggressive as mine was. I have a question regarding the Longear. Have you tried keeping them with a larger cat, like a Bullhead ? I have a local lake that is teeming with yellow Bullheads, and I was hoping to keep them with the Longears when I set that tank up. I was thinking the Yellows are tough enough, but don't get too large like other cats. And finally (I know), how large were the Plecos that were killed ?

Are those long ears also called pumpkin seeds?...We used to have them for sale in England many many years ago, there has been some released into canals in the south of the country that have survived but they're still not available to buy anymore!
@qcaquaholic5 ай бұрын
No, longears and pumpkinseeds are two different species. Check out Cold Water Aquatics' channel. He has multiple species of lepomis sunfish.

The sexual dimorphism is pretty clear at this size for the ozarks. Beautiful fish. I have spawned the ones I got from Jonahs and the offspring are nearing this size.

I've watched them rearrange the rocks and do their little spawning dance over them, but no eggs have come about.

@qcaquaholic5 ай бұрын
Those aren't actually cichlids. They're Ozark longear sunfish, a US native fish.

The "ears" on all of them are large and really easy to spot. The "ears" on the females are way smaller, at about 5 times smaller they appear more like a dot.
