if there is enough interest I will make a video on what I learned and how to build a good chainsaw mill

I would love a video on DIY milling. Btw, I don't really know anything about industrial milling techniques but why is milling lateral and not vertical? In a DIY setting I would've assumed that a stationary vertical saw would be more stable and one could just "push" to lumbar into the saw blade with wooden guides on either side. Am I missing something obvious that makes this less effective or impossible?

I will see what I can do about putting a video together on mill construction, technique, and a few other odds and ends My limited experience is that band and chainsaw mills are built to cut horizontally and circular saw mills vertically. A big part of the problem is a low saw track Needed to load 1000lb logs limits clearance for the saw parts. Also the difficulty in filling the gasoline and lube oil in such and awkward position. That is all I can think of at the moment eoment

@@dirtbagbuilder9568 That's a lot more knowledge than I have so it's definitely appreciated. And no worries on the video if that's not what you want to put out. I watch every video project you put up anyway. They're all interesting to me.

@@antontrier3862 happy to help! I am always looking for new video ideas. Missed in your initial question about pushing the log into the blade instead of moving the saw in a carriage.... that can certainly be done and is done in industrial mills, but as a saw+carriage weighs less than 100 lb and a nice oak log can be 1000 lbs, most hobby size mills choose to move the saw. If I has a seriously big circular or band saw, I would put it on a smooth level concrete pad and make an adjustable height log carriage to run the stock through...

@@dirtbagbuilder9568 So for "small-scale" milling it's just more efficient to move the blade and not the log. Thanks for the info.

THAT I absolutely agree with - vertical cutting seems a better method if the platform is stable.
