Drought, what drought?! As you'll see in this video I'm quite pleasantly surprised by this year's potato harvest considering we had such hot temperatures this summer of up to 39C. Join me as I harvest all my spuds and share what I think made this harvest survive the heat!

Growing food is not about saving money. It’s about developing a skill and achieving success, and learning from failures. If you happen to save money, then it’s a bonus. ❤🎉😊

Very nice harvest! I love using the grow bags, surprised to see rodent damage on your spuds. I have purchased flower seeds based on what I've seen in your videos this year. You are part of my flower garden! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and love for beautiful and interesting living things. Enjoy your mash and fries!

Hey, your potatoes did really nicely. I would be very pleased with that harvest. I'm eating my home garden spuds now too. My garden gives me just about all the vegetables I ever use. About the only vegetable I ever buy from the store are onions as I don't grow Spanish onions. My garden is right outside my cabin door so I don't have to drive to get there which means a lot. I've always been really happy I can grow so much of my own food. Dahlias are blooming great right now too. Enjoy your spuds. Cheers!

Hi from Australia. Fantastic result again. Thanks for being such an inspiration. You had the sort of summer we would usually deal with in SA - probably on the mild side for us. Things I usually have to manage when growing potatoes in tubs are greening of potatoes from sunlight and heat but most importantly irrigation. When it’s hot and dry it’s tricky to keep the top of the pot moist without having sludge in the bottom. If I got ants in a pot here I might consider a flame thrower. They are nasty buggers on this side of the planet. I planted my first seed taters for this spring a fortnight ago (Charlotte) and the second this weekend (Sebago) - keeps the progression happening. King Edwards next. They go well for me. My favourite variety is Kipfler - similar in shape to Fir Apple. They are ‘waxy’ and make the best potato salad ever. The worst homegrown potato knocks a supermarket potato out of the park.

i'm all for the potato reveals, I find them really exciting! Inspired by you growing potatoes in pots I tried it myself for the first time this year and grew some second earlies called Collen (I think you may have grown them in the past too). They turned out great! Was very pleased with growing my own potatoes and will definitely do it again next year but grow more, and maybe a few varieties or an early and a main crop. Your pink ruff ones look very interesting, will be intrigued to hear how they taste

I keep used peat compost in dustbins. My potatoes are grown in 20l buckets and I use the same compost every time with added nutrients. The great thing about buckets is that they can easily be moved. The first frost was last weekend here in Wales and the potatoes had a sleep over in my lounge as they are frost tender. The potatoes I'm growing now are second mains for harvest around December. The first mains were harvested at the end of August as they were ready. Average of 2.5kg per bucket.

That's it really. A couple bags of this compost comes in at around £20.00 which rather defeats the purpose. I collect stable waste and compost it down on a large scale and amend with a potato fertiliser. The hard work with such high temperatures these days is watering.

Love that harvest! The have done well for you. I have found the Dalefoot peat free compost is very good with water retention. Although I have been a bit caught out this year as I used their tomato compost and did overwater a bit at first as I was a bit paranoid in the heat. Have learned my lesson. I have been growing charlottes as my autumn potatoes for Christmas but because it has been still so warm, the ones planted at the end of July I think I will have to harvest some now! Hope you have enjoyed your Pink Fir Apples, they looked fab.

White reflects sun ' say no more ' Store potatoes in a sack, in a dry dark place at least 3ft off the floor especially if stored in a shed outside .. The sack will be made of a material that absorbs water and is sealed . Before they go in the sack leave loose for a couple of days off the floor away from direct sunlight . ants in the garden is the worst pests of all ! Their no 1 predator the mole will not only tunnel your garden but will bring with it a wide range of unwanted guests ! Grreat vlog thankyou 🙏

Great inspiring video. Our favourite Potato is Marfona, they are healthy and very tasty. From a 30-litre plastic bucket. 2 seed potatoes per bucket. Bought compost from Garden Centre. We average 9 pounds weight per bucket. Just add Chicken manure pellets and Fish, blood and bone. Greetings from N/W England

Well done with your harvest. There’s no better potato than home grown. I think shop bought spuds are expensive and lacking in flavour. I grow ALOT of potatoes every year and this year I only watered them when I planted them and I was amazed. We only used stored water that we collected over winter so needed that for the greens, roots, onions and some new trees. I mulched the spuds with grass clippings and kept my fingers crossed. I had a little scab but a high yield on pink fir Apple (which I love) and Kestrel. 😅 it was a good, good lesson and saved me so much time not watering. Looking forward to your next garden tour.. x

Hello. May 2nd from FL. Your video inspired me to run out to my small back garden and dig the top layer of a small container potato plant and I saw one near the surface. I struggled with it because I did not want to disturb the plant. A double potato finally came out. This is the third time since planting March 1st that the same plant has given me a bunch of small potatoes. I have 30 other plants to let mature in the proper way. I sometimes dig down and get sweet potatoes that way as well. Thanks.

Nice harvest. Here is central Alabama, USA (which is much further south than where you are), I typically plant potatoes in February and harvest them in June. Usually by the end of June, the soil has gotten too warm for the plants to continue living. So that is when I harvest my potatoes.

You've got me interested in the pink fur potatoes now, never heard of them before😃 I'm growing mostly Desiree potatoes as they are doing ok, ever since I've read that red skinned potatoes are healthier, I've kept to them. I've tried Setanta (?) last year but they don't like it too dry. The Desiree potatoes did pretty well considering the weather but with room for improvement.

What a beautiful garden and Katrina you are so charming🥰 Nice harvest by the way! Speaking for myself, didn't grow potatoes this year - almost the entire garden was filled with tomatoes instead. now i plan to sow overwintering veggies for the next spring. Are you doing something similar? Perhaps in the poly-tunnel. So far did some leafy valerian sowing (leafy variety for salads, not herbs) and planning to sow spring onion and garlic from sets and hopefully some more greens undercover in a poly tunnel. Keep up, I love your channel! Each video is an amazing relaxation and helps getting close with nature.
