After season 4 episode 4, I was pretty damn sure that homelander is one of the best villains written lately. It's not all about just being evil. It's a personal journey for him, his inner therapist is trying his hardest to make sense out of everything going on in his life. He never once had parents or any real father figure so he really doesn't have any guidance in life. Imagine being constantly and anxiety because you are the strongest person on Earth but nobody wants to love you
